15.1 - Whodunnit?
Help Thread
Cluedo, known as Clue in North America, celebrates its 75th birthday this year. Originally released in 1949, the much-loved murder mystery game has endured through the years, spawning an entire franchise that includes a feature film, a stage play, and an entire series of books for younger readers (alas, none of which show in AR Bookfind, so you'll have to use 5.10 if you want to read those!).
This is a two-book task.
Book 1: Read a book with one of the iconic Cluedo murder weapons on the cover: candlestick, dagger (with visible hilt/pommel), lead pipe, revolver (with visible revolving chamber), rope or spanner/wrench.
Required: Post the cover
Book 2: Read a book from the first 25 pages of this Murder Mystery list: /shelf/show/...
Required: State the page of the list your book is found on.
15.2 - Don't Stop Me Now
Help Thread
Can't Stop is a dice-rolling board game where players race to take control of columns of blocks before their opponents. Beware though: push your luck too far and you'll lose all the progress you've made in your turn! As readers, we face our own version of not being able to stop: getting so engrossed in a series that we madly try to finish the next book before the season finishes - but on the plus side, if we don't manage it, we don't have to go right back to book 1...
This is a two-book task.
Read two books from the same series. The books do not have to be consecutive in the series, but the series must appear in greyscale on the book GR pages.
15.3 - In Space, No One Can Hear You Scream
Help Thread
Nemesis is a semi-cooperative board game set aboard a spacecraft under assault by vicious creatures, led by an even deadlier queen. Players must find a way to survive long enough to get themselves into cryostasis or escape the ship before it self-destructs - while also fulfilling their own agendas, or those set by the shady company that sponsored the mission. Sound familiar? It's heavily inspired by the Alien film franchise, which saw its seventh mainline film release in August this year.
Choose an option.
Required: State the option
Option 1: Two-book task
Book 1: Read a book with an MPG of Science Fiction.
Book 2: Read a book which is numbered 1-7 in a series of at least three whole numbered books (no x.5 etc). The series must appear in greyscale on the GR book page.
Option 2: One-book task
Read a single book that satisfies both criteria for option 1.
15.4 - Flight Risk
Help Thread
In Hit the Silk!, players are members of a group of plane hijackers whose heist has gone badly wrong. The plane is losing altitude, there aren't enough parachutes for everyone, and you need to make sure you bail out with enough money to pay off the mob who are waiting on your return to terra firma.
Choose an option.
Required: State the option
Option 1: two-book task.
Book 1: Read a book with a aeroplane on the cover. For the purposes of this task, an aeroplane is defined as a fixed-wing aircraft such as a glider, biplane, or jet. We are not looking for helicopters, microlights or paper planes. Some portion of the wing, nosecone or tail must be visible.
Examples:
Required: post the cover.
Book 2: Read a book by an author whose first and last initials can be found in HIT THE SILK. Letters may be used only as often as they appear.
Option 2: one-book task.
Read a book which satisfies both criteria for option 1.
15.5 - Oh No, Not Again...
Help Thread
Pandemic is, as the name suggests, a board game about working together to stop a global pandemic. Designed in the wake of the 2002 SARS outbreak, it's become one of the most successful mainstream co-operative boardgames, with multiple spin-offs and a legacy campaign edition of the game. Somehow, the reality of the Covid-19 pandemic in the early part of this decade didn't dull its popularity!
Read a book first published in 2002 or 2020.
15.6 - Iä! Iä! Cthulhu Fhtagn!
Help Thread
Cthulhu (and the extended Lovecraft mythos) is a perennial theme in the world of board gaming, making appearances in so many games (Lovecraft Letter, Arkham Horror, and Shadows Over Normandie to name but a few) that we'd go insane from the horror of trying to count them all. Still, it's spooky season, so let's dive into the madness anway.
Read a book from the first 25 pages of this Lovecraftian list: /shelf/show/...
Required: State the page of the list your book is found on.
15.7 - Whose Side Are You On?
Help Thread
Codenames is a game where two teams compete to find their field agents on a board of tiles, each of which has a word on it. The team's spymaster must attempt to guide their teammates to the correct tiles by providing a single-word clue which connects the words on the tiles by their meaning. Be warned though: among the agents (of either alignment) and innocent bystanders, there lurks an assassin. Discover them, and your team loses!
Read a book with a single-word title (of any length).
15.8 - Read My Mind
Help Thread
The Mind is a very simple game about playing numbered cards in the correct order. Easy, right? There's just one catch: players can't speak or communicate with each other, relying instead on intuition (and possibly some low-level psychic abilities) to know when to play their cards.
Read a book in which a main character exhibits (or pretends to have - we'll accept charlatans for this task!) some sort of psychic ability, e.g. clairvoyance, telepathy, telekinesis, mediumship etc.
Required: if the ability is not obvious from the GR book description, provide a reference.
15.9 - Shifting Sands
Help Thread
In Forbidden Desert, players are survivors of a airship crash in the desert. In order to win, they must explore a board of tiles to find the broken parts of their vessel and get back to the launch site. At the same time, they must fend off the dual threats of the relentless sun and the looming sandstorm, which risks stopping them in their tracks, or worse - burying them under the dunes.
Choose a desert from the Wiki list of the largest deserts by area and read a book set at least 50% in a nation listed for that desert. For example, if you pick the Kalahari, you can read a book set in either Botswana, Namibia, or South Africa. As we're specifically looking for sandy deserts, the Antarctic and Arctic deserts are excluded for this task.
Required: State the desert and the country setting. If the setting is not obvious from the GR book description or metadata, provide a reference.
15.10 - That's Not Trivial Pursuit...
Help Thread
Imagine a game where you roam around a board, trying to collect a full set of colour-coded tokens to fill the space in your playing piece, before racing to the centre of the board to win. No, it's not Trivial Pursuit: this is The Great Penguin Bookchase, possibly one of the most apt board games for bookworms everywhere. Instead of your typical general knowledge categories, each book for your bookshelf represents a different genre of books.
Read a book with a word in the title of four or more letters that can be made from THE GREAT PENGUIN BOOKCHASE. Letters may only be used as often as they appear.
Required: State the word.

20.1 - Most Improved - Jenny H's Task: Go to Jail
Help Thread
One of my favourite boardgames is Monopoly. I remember playing it with my mum a lot when I was a kid - and getting my butt kicked! I was so proud the first time I managed to beat her. The original Monopoly board takes its inspiration from the streets of Atlantic City, New Jersey, USA with 22 streets lining the board. There is also a UK version which uses London street names.
Read a book whose title includes one word (that is not "the") from this list of Monopoly street names:
The word in your book title needs to be an exact match to the word on the list.
Graphic novels that meet SRC requirements may be used for this task.
Required: State the word and the street it matches.
20.2 - Rookie at the Top - Catherine's Task: All Hallow's Challenge
Help Thread

Examples: The Confessions of St. Augustine by Augustine of Hippo
The Rule of Saint Benedict by Benedict of Nursia
Catherine of Siena: The Dialogue by Catherine of Siena
Option 2 Read abook with the word ‘saint in the title or subtitle. Possessive and plural forms are allowed. The abbreviation “St. is also allowed, but only if it stands for 'saint'. Can also be part of a larger word. Can be in another language, but if it is, then identify the word and the language.
Examples: Saints and Sinners: Stories
St. Elmo's Fire
Chronicle of the Abbey of Bury St. Edmunds
They Hanged My Saintly Billy: The Life and Death of Dr. William Palmer
Option 3 Read a book with MPG of Religion or Theology.
Examples: The Great Divorce
Bearing False Witness: Debunking Centuries of Anti-Catholic History
Back to Virtue: Traditional Moral Wisdom for Modern Moral Confusion
Orthodoxy
20.3 - Review Raffle - Jayne's Task: Family Farewells
Help Thead
During the Summer season, I had the heartbreak of having to say my final goodbyes to two much-loved members of my family: my Great-Uncle Gordon and my Auntie Carol. This task is in tribute to them.
Choose an option and read one book for that option.
Required: State the option.
Option 1: Uncle Gordon was the youngest of four children, the others being my grandad, Harold, and their two middle brothers, Ronnie and Terrence. By all accounts they were very close to each other - although knowing how much Uncle Gordon and my grandad loved to play tricks on each other (and on anyone else nearby, for that matter), it was probably havoc for their parents to keep up with!
Read a book from this siblings list: /list/show/4...
Required: State the page of the list your book is found on.
Option 2: Born in 1931, Uncle Gordon was one of the countless child evacuees during the onset of World War II, as his hometown of Hull (a major port city) was a prime target during the Blitz. He was relocated to Foxholes in rural North Yorkshire, and seemed to have fond memories of the place, all things considered, as in later life he continued to enjoy visiting the region when on holiday with his own children and grandchildren.
Read a book with an MPG of World War II.
Option 3: On the whole, my family seem to have an uncanny knack for longevity. Uncle Gordon made it to the impressive age of 93, and was still living independently when he left us.
Read a book in with "93" can be found intact in either the page count or year of first publication.
Option 4: My Auntie Carol was a keen traveller, and it was on one of her many holidays that she met my Uncle Peter. There was much amusement among my family when we discovered that despite the pair living only an hour away from each other when at home in the UK, they'd had to go all the way to India to meet!
Read a book that is at least 50% set in India.
Required: If the setting is not obvious from the GR book description or metadata, provide a reference.
Option 5: Auntie Carol officially joined the family a year after meeting my uncle, with the pair marrying in December 2000. Despite her insistence that she didn't want a white wedding (her outfit was a gorgeous shade of purple), the Winter weather didn't get the memo, promptly covering the venue in a heavy blanket of snow just in time for the ceremony.
Read a book with a cover that depicts a snowy scene (i.e. snow is either visible in the air, or on the ground or other surfaces such as windowsills or tree branches).
Examples:
Required: Post the cover
Option 6: Sadly, Auntie Carol was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2002, and her condition would only deteriorate from then on. In 2021 she was admitted to hospital in a critical state, and the doctors gave a prognosis of her only having a few days left. Carol apparently had other ideas. Defying all expectations, she rallied and made enough of a recovery to return home a few weeks afterwards, going on to grace us with another three years of her company.
Read a book from one of these lists:
Second Chance At Life
Second Chances
Required: State which list your book is found on.
20.4 - Golden Oldies - Kai's Task: Gilmore Girls
Help Thread
No other show makes me think of Fall as much as Gilmore Girls. This task is an ode to three of my favorite TV characters of all time.
This is a one book task. Please choose an option and read a book that meets the requirements.
REQUIRED: State the option.
OPTION 1: LORELAI: After giving birth to Rory at age 16, Lorelai left the home of her wealthy and controlling parents to live in a potting shed and work as a maid at the Independence Inn. From there, she worked her way up to Executive Manager and eventually became the co-owner and operator of the Dragonfly Inn with her best friend Sookie.
Read a book that features characters staying in or working at a hotel or inn. A Bed and Breakfast does not count, because Lorelai hates a B&B. All other types of inns/hotels are acceptable (guest lodge, pension, hostel, etc.), but not house rentals (like Airbnb).
REQUIRED: If the setting is not evident from the description or the GR metadata, provide a reference.
OPTION 2: RORY: It seems like all fictional teenagers these days easily get into Ivy League schools despite never opening a book or even appearing remotely studious. The same cannot be said for Rory Gilmore: dedicated student and avid bookworm. One of my favorite things about the series are the number of literary references they throw in.
Read one book from the Gilmore Girls Complete Reading List. All other SRC rules apply (not all books on the list may be eligible).
REQUIRED: State the list page your book was found on.
OPTION 3: EMILY: The matriarch of the family has a battle-axe exterior and can be both calculating and cold-hearted, but she's also one of the most insecure characters on the show. While her daughter and granddaughter blaze their own trails through life, Emily belongs to a class of women who were seen as ornamental and supportive, never truly independent. Her most vulnerable moments usually involved some great freak-outs and classic quotes. My favorite is when she is told by her husband Richard, "Only prostitutes have two glasses of wine at lunch" and Emily responds, "Well then, buy me a boa and drive me to Reno because I am open for business!"
Read a book with all of the letters RENO in the title (not subtitle). Letters can be in any order.
20.5 - Bigger is Better - Lindsey IL's Task: The Element of Surprise
Help Thread
It was a pleasant surprise to find an invitation to design a task in my inbox today. So, I decided that surprise will be the theme of the task. I've found lately that it adds some fun and excitement to life to add an element of surprise and random-ness. For example, once a week I will use a random number generator to decide what to make for dinner out of my cookbook collection - generating numbers for shelf and then book and then page number. Or sometimes I will go to my local library and generate random numbers for section (fiction, nonfiction, biography, young adult, middle grade, etc.) and then generate more numbers to drill down into either subject or author's initials. With these mini games I've added to my life, I've ended up having some great meals, and I even found a new favorite author. I always seem to really enjoy the tasks in this challenge that include a die roll, wheel spin, or some other randomness. So that's what we'll do here...
Roll one 6-sided die - - to determine which genre you will be reading. The genre must appear on the Main Page. Genre must be standalone and match exactly, i.e. if you roll "Mystery", you cannot use "Mystery Thriller".
1) Biography or Memoir
2) Mystery or Suspense
3) Horror or Psychology
4) Classics
5) Fantasy or Science Fiction
6) History or Historical Fiction
Then roll again to determine one of the author's initials. The author's first OR last initial must start with one of the letters you rolled. If there are multiple authors, they also must have an initial in your rolled list of letters.
1) A, B, C, or D
2) E, F, G, or H
3) I, J, K, or L
4) M, N, O, or P

REQUIRED: State the genres and letters you rolled.
Help Thread
November 1st is All Saints' Day. Pick an option from the choices below and read one book for that option.
Required: State the option.
Option 1 - Read a book whose author is recognised as a saint.
Required: If not explicitly part of the ŷ author page, then provide a reference to their status as a saint

5) Q, R, S, T, or U
6) V, W, X, Y, or Z
Graphic novels may be used for this task.
REQUIRED: State the genres and letters you rolled.

20.6 - It's A Fact - JenJ IA's Task: It’s Booked! You’re Invited to a Fall Reading Retreat
Help Thread
My book club started with a group of friends from work and has branched out to other friends and family over the past year. We are planning a Fall Reading Retreat and just booked our vacation house. We can’t wait! It will be a fun weekend of reading, relaxing, and fun with friends! While we know you can’t all make it to the reading retreat, you’re INVITED to read lots of books with us!
Required: Choose one option and state your choice.
Books with the genres "Sequential Art", "Comics", "Comic Book", and "Manga" may be used for this task.
Option 1: Where - We tossed around many ideas and were torn between a schoolhouse loft apartment and a farmhouse with lots of different spaces to read, both indoors and outdoors. We ultimately decided on the farmhouse because it was hard to turn down the outdoor spaces, even if it might be too cold to use them. Read a book by an author whose first and last initials can be found in either FARMHOUSE or SCHOOLHOUSE. Letters may only be used as often as they appear. If there are multiple authors, only initials of one author must fit the task.
Required State which word you used.
Option 2: When - The reading retreat is planned for November 8-10th. Read a book in a series numbered 8, 9, 10, or 11. Whole numbers (no x.5 etc). The series must appear in greyscale on the GR book page.
Option 3: The Vibes - Fall seems like the perfect time of year to be cozy and have nothing to do but read. To set the scene, you need a fire, a cozy blanket, snacks, and your beverage of choice. Read a book with a fireplace, campfire, blanket, food, or drink on the cover.
Examples:
Required: Post the cover
Option 4: Who - We are a group of eight women who mostly work together in the Science field. This year we also added a friend, who works in Animal Science, and my sister, who works at a History Museum. Read a NONFICTION book that has the MPG of Science, Animals or History.
Option 5: The Books - We take turns picking books and have read some really good ones this year. They have mostly been hits for everyone. We have read the following books in 2024:
The Frozen River by Ariel Lawhon
The People We Keep by Allison Larkin
Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel
The Love of my Life by Rosie Walsh
The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern
Martyr! by Kaveh Akbar
Read one of these books, OR read a book whose title or subtitle shares a 4+ letter word with one of these titles. Words must match exactly (punctuation may be ignored).
Required: If using the title match option, state the word and which book it matches with.

25.4 - Robin P's Task: 60’s Board Games
Help Thread
My brother and I played a lot of board games growing up. Here are a few of them.
Choose 2 different options and read 1 book from each option.
1. Careers Players choose paths for farming, business, law, or even going into space (it was the '60's!). You accumulate money but also fame and happiness.
Read a book with a job title in the author’s name or in the title (not subtitles.)
Occupation must be on one of these lists:
Plurals and possessives are allowed. Translated equivalents of names are permitted, but per SRC rules you must explain how it fits.
Required: Specify which list the name appears on.
Examples Longbourn- Jo Baker
The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency - Alexander McCall Smith
The Weaver Takes a Wife
Butcher's Crossing
2. Monopoly - Everyone knows this game which exists in many international formats.
Read a book with one of the original 10 Monopoly tokens on the cover.
These are:
Racecar (any car is acceptable)
Battleship (any large military ship is acceptable - not civilian vessels such as cruise liners or ferries)
Scottie Dog (any domestic dog is acceptable, but no foxes or wolves)
Cannon
Horse with Rider (must have a person riding)
Top Hat (must be a top hat, not just any hat)
Boot (can be on a foot or by itself, and can be any kind of boot - but not a shoe)
Wheelbarrow
Thimble
Iron (Were these last two intended for female players?)
Required: Post the cover.
3. Mystery Date You have to assemble the necessities for a date dress, shoes, flowers, and of course a boy. Heaven forbid you would get stuck with the nerdy Poindexter!
Read a book with MPG Romance AND one of the following: Mystery, Thriller, or Suspense (or one MPG which is a combination, such as Romantic Suspense.)
4. Mousetrap You build a “better mousetrap by assembling odd parts, like a boot that kicks a marble down a staircase to land on a seesaw to launch a figurine, etc. The idea was based on drawings by humor cartoonist Rube Goldberg, who depicted elaborate processes to accomplish simple task.
Read a book from the first 20 pages of this Humor list: /shelf/show/...
Required: State the page of the list your book is found on.
5. Parcheesi (also Pachisi, and other spellings) is based on an ancient game from India. The game Sorry is also a derivation of this race game where you can send your opponent back to Start. Read a book set at least 70% in India.
Required: If the setting isn’t obvious from the book page or GR metadata, provide a reference.
25.5 - Lisa MD’s Task: Bookopoly
Task Help
It’s game night for the SRC, so pull up your armchair, turn on your reading lamp, and prepare to turn some pages because we are going to play Bookopoly.
Bookopoly is a boardgame which allows players to glimpse inside the world of classic literature. Inspired by the classic boardgame, Monopoly, players roll dice to move their tokens around a board, where they can buy, sell, and trade properties. In this case, properties are books, and the player can buy bookstores and trade them in for libraries. Each property card has printed on its back facts about the book and author. To add to the fun, players may land on the space “Explore! or “Knowledge, which requires them to pick an action card and follow its instructions. Let’s begin and see who may win the title of President of the Book Club.

25.6 - RedSycamore's Task: Ticket To Ride
Help Thread
Fall always makes me crave a long train ride through the woods as the colors change, so this task will be based on the 2004 board game, Ticket to Ride! It's a railway-themed, turn-based strategy board game that's won over a dozen awards. If you're looking for an easy-to-learn game with tons of replay value that's good for kids and adults, this is the one.
Since you're always looking for alternate routes in Ticket to Ride, you can complete this task by either of two methods:
Read Two Books: Read two books from the options below. You may use the same option twice.
OR
Read One Book: Read one book of at least 500 pages that satisfies the criteria from two different options.
Required: State the options you used
Option 1: The Original
In the 20 years since its original release, Ticket to Ride has sold 18 million copies and been translated into 33 languages!
Read a book that is numbered 18-33 in a series (inclusive, whole numbers only). The series must be apparent in greyscale on the GR book page.
Option 2: Mystery Train
This first, free mini-expansion came hot on the heels of the original release.
Read a book with the MPG Mystery, either stand-alone or combined ('Cozy Mystery', 'Mystery Thriller', etc.)
Option 3: Ghost Train
There are many more expansions for the game, but I can't pass up one that's so thematically appropriate to the season.
Read a book with at least one of the MPGs Horror, Weird Fiction, New Weird, or Speculative Fiction
Option 4: Rails and Sails
There were even expansions that added characters, new game piece designs, and new modes of transportation.
Read a book that has any of the following Ticket to Ride related words found intact in the title or subtitle: Conductor, Engine, Freight, Industrial, Magnate, Master, Rail, Ride, Sail, Station, Steam, Ticket, or Train
Required: State the Ticket to Ride word.
While the word must be found intact, it does not need to be stand-alone, so any of the following would work for this option: Deckhand: Life on Freighters of the Great Lakes (Freight), The Masterpiece (Master), Frailty (Rail), and Pride and Prejudice (Ride).
However, the task word may not be split between sub/title words as in Divine Conduct or the Mystery of Providence (Conductor), Appalachian Fall: Dispatches from Coal Country on What's Ailing America (Sail).
25.7 - Lois' Task: Sorry!
Help Thread
Sorry! is a classic board game, which I played as a child, I played with my children, and now I play with my grandchildren. It is a simple but competitive game that can be enjoyed by all ages!
This is a two book task. Choose two of the following options.
Required: State the options you chose.
Option 1. Some elements on the Sorry! game board are Start, Home, and Slide. Read a book with Start, Home, or Slide intact in the title.
Option 2. Sorry! is played with 2-4 people. Game pieces are red, yellow, blue, and green. Read a book with at least two of these colors on the cover, according to TinEye. Any percentage is acceptable as long as it is present.
Required: Post the cover and state the colors with their TinEye percentages.
Option 3. Drawing the Sorry! card is great, though risky if you are playing with a young child who does not like to be "sorried." In that case, I prefer the 2 Draw Again card, and sometimes the Backward 4 can be very advantageous. Read a book that is #2 or #4 in a series. Series must be indicated on the main page in grayscale.
Option 4. Sorry! has an exclamation point in its name. Read a book with an exclamation point in the title (disregard subtitle).
25.8 - Shelby's Task: Are You Ready For Some Football???
Help Thread
So, I am a HUGE Seahawks fan, and I am ecstatic that it is finally time for football to start up again. Opening weekend cannot get here soon enough for me. I love talking football and often surprise people, ok let’s be honest mostly guys, with how much I know about the game. I am not your “oooh, I like their colors fan. I can tell you pretty much all of the players on our 53-man roster and who’s going to start and how things look for the season. This year has a lot of budding hope developing in the Seahawks fan base. A large part of that is that we have a brand-new coaching staff this year. We moved on this season with our long time Hall of Fame coach for a new regime, but there’s a lot of momentum developing behind it. With that in mind I’m honoring my Seahawks and the potential for new exciting things this season with this challenge.
Choose two different options and read a book for each option. Also because the excitement for this all comes from the unknown and the hope for something great to come from all that newness, one of your books must be from a New-to-You author.
Required: State the options and which of your books is by the New-to-You author.
Option 1: This whole task is really about my favorite team so, read a book by a single author where the author’s initials (you may ignore middle initials) appear in SEATTLE SEAHAWKS. You may only use a letter as many times as it appears.
Option 2. As I said above the Seahawks are moving on from one of the greatest coaches in franchise history. Pete Carroll will forever be beloved in Seattle and will always be respected for the Super Bowl Championship he brought to the city. He was the Seahawks coach for 14 years, but he was the oldest coach in the NFL. To honor Pete Carroll, read a book published prior to the year he was born in 1951 (i.e. a book from 1950 or earlier) or a book that is #14 in a series. The series must be apparent in greyscale on the GR book page.
Option 3: Needing to replace the legend the Seahawks are taking a big swing in the exact opposite direction with the hiring of Mike Mcdonald. Hailed as the newest defensive guru he is now the youngest head coach in the NFL. Read a book first published in 2024.
Option 4: The NFL season has recently gone to a 17-game season, which means it is actually 18 weeks long. Read a book whose page count ends in either 1, 7, or 8.
Option 5: The Seahawks fan base is famously known as the 12’s. They regularly cause false starts and other problems for the opposing offense with how loud they are at Lumen Field (they have actually registered as an earthquake on seismometers in the area). To honor the 12’s, read a book that is #1, 2, or 12 in a series from one of your favorite authors. The series must be apparent in greyscale on the GR book page.
Required: State that the author is a favorite.
Bonus: If you’re a football fan, shout out your favorite team and let us know how you think they’re going to do this year. The Seahawks I truly believe have a good shot at making the playoffs this year even though they play in one of the toughest division in football. :D

30.4 TessaVanessa’s US Nationals Drag Racing Challenge
Help Thread
You may use one book with a MPG Sequential Art, Graphic Novels, Comics, Comic Book, or Manga.
This is a two-book task, pick one book for two different options.
Option 1: NHRA:
The National Hot Rod Association (NHRA), the largest auto racing organization in the world, has come a long way since Wally Parks founded it in 1951. Though it has grown into a global sports-entertainment business, NHRA has not lost sight of Parks' original goal: to provide competitors a place to race.
Read a book with all the letters in NHRA in the author’s first and last name (middle name can be ignored)
Option 2: Meeting the family
My first experience with drag racing came when on our second date my husband took me along with his sister and brother’s family to the US Nationals in Indianapolis, Indiana. It was a marathon date but I fell in love with the sport and my husband. This happened to be the 30th running of the US Nationals.
Read a book with a 3 and a 0(zero) in the page count. The numbers do not need to be consecutive.
Option 3: Christmas Tree
Modern drag races are started electronically by a system known as a Christmas tree. A common Christmas tree consists of a column of seven lights for each driver or lane. Each side of the column of lights is the same. The tree consists of a blue LED light set (top and bottom halves), then three amber bulbs, then a green bulb and a red bulb. Often many race wins are determined by how quick the driver’s reaction time is to the lights.
Read a book with a cover of any combination of at least 75% of the following colors: blue, yellow, green, red determined by TinEye.
Required: post the cover.
Option 4: Labor Day Weekend
The US Nationals is the longest-running Labor Day motorsports event in the United States, a distinction it earned in 2004. This year will be the 70th running of the race. We’ve been going since 1991. Read a book published in either August or September in the years between 1991 to 2024 (inclusive).
Required: State the date of first publication.
Option 5: The Drivers
When you go to the US Nationals you get the chance to get up close to the drivers and cars. Often you are able to get pictures and autographs. The drivers personalities and willingness to interact with the fans is a bonus of attending the race.
Read a book by an author that shares a first or last name with one of the winning professional drivers found here:
You can choose from the professional or the sportsman classes, names and location must match exactly. (ex. John Force–John Grisham)
Required: State the name of the driver and which class they race in.

30.7 Amy FL’s task: Let’s play Scattergories!

Scattergories was a favorite board game in our house. It tests your ability to think quickly and creatively to find answers to categories using a letter determined by the roll of a letter cube.
For example, if the letter “R was rolled, you would have to think of 12 things that start with that letter from a list you’re given. It can be things like birds, boy’s names, or things you shout.
This is a two-book task. Choose two different categories and read a book for each.
Using this Scattergories wheel, spin to determine which letter you will use.

50.1 - Jen B's Task: ‘Bored Games
Help Thread
When my boys were little, entertaining them during long waits was always a challenge. So, we would play “Bored Games quick things that we could do with whatever pens and paper were in my purse. Now they are typical phone-wielding American teenagers, but occasionally I can get them to take a little trip down memory lane with me to play one of our old favorites.
This task requires three books totaling at least 750 pages.
No books with the genres children or kids on the main book page may be used.
Books whose main page lists any of these genres: Sequential Art, Comics, Comic Book, or Manga may not be used.
Choose one of our Bored Games below and read 3 books to satisfy each option listed for that board game.
Required: State the option.
Option 1: Tic Tac Toe
Pretty much everyone knows this game in some form. The idea is to match three Xs or Os either horizontally, diagonally, or vertically in a grid of 9 squares.
For this option, read 3 books by 3 different authors who share the same name. The names must be in the same position (first, middle, or last) and must match exactly. So, if they are a nickname or variation, they must all be that nickname/variation. For example,
Jennifer Weiner and Jen Lancaster and Jenny Colgan would NOT work because they are all different variations.
However, Kate Quinn and Kate White, and Kate Spencer do work since they are the same variation.
Option 2: MASH
MASH was an 80s elementary school favorite that my thoroughly modern kiddos ended up finding hilarious. In this game, you “predict your future life by listing multiple options in different categories, like marriage partners, cities to live, jobs, and whether your home will be a Mansion, Apartment, Shack, or House (hence, MASH). Then, you pick your magic number from 1-10 and count your way through all the options in your categories using that number, crossing off each option that you land on. Eventually, you are left with one option in each category and, voila! That’s your future! You can even play it online!
Book 1 - Read a book with the word Mansion, Apartment, Shack, or House in the title. Plurals and possessives are ok, but no other variations.
Book 2 - Read a book with a person’s name in the title
Book 3 - Read a book with a city name in the title
Required: If the city name is not obvious (i.e. it is a well known city), please provide a reference.
Option 3: Draw It!
For this one, I’d pull out my phone and someone would choose an object to Google a picture of. We’d land on a picture, and then we’d all have to draw whatever it was. This produced some good drawings, and some hilarious ones.
Book 1 - Read a book whose main character is an artist
Required: if not evident from the book's description, provide a reference
Book 2 - Read a book by an author whose first and last initials are in DRAW
Book 3 - Read a book with a writing utensil (pen, pencil, crayon, paintbrush, chalk, etc) on the cover. This list may help (but your book does not have to be from the list) /list/show/3...
