I'm be close behind you and I hope it is as good too!

Eunice | 275 comments I'm going to join you on this one. Sorry to have gone away for the last two books, I didn't feel like rereading them.

Good to have you back😉

Bernadette (bernadettedaniel) | 1260 comments I'm 20% through the book. Seems like not much has happened. Unlike the other books, there is certainly a lot of time being spent on background. What we have so far:

▪️ a billionaire computer scientist, atheist, futurist who made a discovery that will rock the world
▪️ three religious clerics that are unhappy about the discovery
▪️ an event is being held to reveal the discovery
▪️ the billionaire was a student of Langdon
▪️ an artificial museum docent
▪️ a missing Allamah - one of the unhappy clerics
▪️ a man with a gun is at the event

What we don't know:

▪️ what is the discovery
▪️ only one dead body so far?

I didn't get to start until today. I've finished 20% now. Let me just say, I love your lists of what we know or what your questions are!!

This one does have a lot more background info. Not bad so far and it hasn't lost me to the science (hoping it doesn't!)

When Robert went behind the barrier and into that locked room, my sensible side was screaming for him not to do it! I wonder with everything that Langdon has been through why in the world would he trust anyone to take him off alone, somewhere that no one knew where he was, and for something he had no prior knowledge of!! (view spoiler)

I'm itching to know what Kirsch's discovery is! Also, why is the man with the gun at the event...

I've only read 3% more.

Bernadette (bernadettedaniel) | 1260 comments Angie, remember I’m an accountant so I love lists. Guess that’s why you like it too😂

Angie ☯ | 2877 comments Mod
You are correct! I love lists!!

Bernadette (bernadettedaniel) | 1260 comments 50% done - now we have things are happening!

I have to say that I love Winston😊. This book was published 7 years ago when AI was probably just really beginning to get some headway. We use it at work for some things (Copilot and some others) but I haven't used it, I'm leaving it to the younger people. Not that I'm too old to learn new tricks, I just really don't want to as long as I know others know how to use the new tools. Enough about that.

Bernadette (bernadettedaniel) | 1260 comments 75% done, making good progress. It's easier to read this book than The Bee Sting. I'm having a hard time with that one.

So, Kirsch has a 47-letter password on his phone. I don't like that I have to use 16 letters/symbols for my work PW. And I always try to use a similar PW for everything - you can report me to the PW police if you must👮🏻‍♀️

(view spoiler)

More is yet to be revealed. I still need to know what the discovery was. If we don't find out by the end of the book, I will be really annoyed!

Bernadette (bernadettedaniel) | 1260 comments I'm getting lost on some science☹️

Angie ☯ | 2877 comments Mod
I was able to read soe today (or listen) while I was trying to get ready for a work trip.

I like Winston too!

I'm getting lost in the science too! But, it isn't as bad as the earlier books. (The 4th is still my favorite by far!) Yep, The Bee Sting was hard to read and even getting lost in some science is easier than reading that one!!

Losing Winston seemed like it would prevent them from being able to carry out their mission. I should have known that Langdon would have an idea how to get to Kirsch's computer and Winston.

I can't even imagine a 47 letter password! Geez!!

I'm starting to question a lot of things, but won't bring them up until I read a little more.

We better find out what that discover is! I thought maybe that Kirsch wasn't really dead that it was some sort of AI that was at the reveal instead of him and the killing his was part of the reveal. I don't think that anymore!

Bernadette (bernadettedaniel) | 1260 comments Finished. Final thoughts:

(view spoiler)
I did enjoy Winston and agree that there will always be fighting about God.

Angie ☯ | 2877 comments Mod
I finished too. We read that one pretty much at that same time/speed. Lol!

(view spoiler)

Totally agree that there will always be disagreements and fighting about God.

This book wasn't as good as #4.

Eunice | 275 comments Just to give an update because it's been a while. Unfortunately, I've barely started. Other books have been my priority because of more time-sensitive reading challenges.

Kirsch's got guts to basically mock the leaders of three major religions after asking for their time, especially since he is open about his radical stance concerning the existence of religion. And also after what's happened in previous books lol.

I instantly disliked him. Very egotistical and self-righteous about his beliefs. I find that people belonging to the deep ends of the religious to non-religious spectrum are often like that.

Eunice | 275 comments The assassin's nationality brought to mind the Spanish Inquisition. I wonder if his mission is related to protecting Christianity.
