Hi, everyone! This is the thread for the "Commit to one book monthly" challenge. In this thread, post one book you intend to read in May, so everyone else can see your pick. When you finish reading it, we'd love for you to come back and post your opinion. I expect everyone's TBRs to suffer because of this monthly reading challenge, but I'm prepared to make that sacrifice. Are you? :-D

Bonnie | 683 comments I've been in a reading slump and just not finishing much, so a fun Kindle I hope will do the trick- Bummer Camp by Ann Garvin Bummer Camp

I hope it helps lift you out of the slump.

I'm having a different distraction: I discovered I can listen to/watch ER streaming on my phone.... it's 14 seasons and I've never seen the whole thing.....

That's one I actually watched "in real time" and did like/love it. I like streaming series now I missed back when too- but probably not on my phone. I even struggled to read an epub book on my libby because of my small screen and no kindle option.

On my phone I can sneak in episodes at work. I spend a lot of time waiting on data to process etc as I'm writing reports, so I usually have an audiobook, or, lately, an ER episode, on tap.

I ended up reading my September book yesterday, so I'll commit to a different book:

I'm trying to choose books for these challenges that I otherwise might not get to. So the new pick is:
Fletch (Fletch, #1) by Gregory McDonald

Eileen | 344 comments I will read The Wedding People by Alison Espach

Pam (bluegrasspam) | 228 comments I will commit to read my newest purchase (yesterday), Grey Bees by Ukrainian author Andrey Kurkov. It’s set in eastern Ukraine, the Grey Zone. I feel like this is a good way to express my solidarity with Ukraine. It’s set in a war zone but before Putin’s latest invasion. I’ve read one other book, Death and the Penguin, by this author and enjoyed it.
Grey Bees by Andrey Kurkov

I listened to Fletch (Fletch, #1) by Gregory McDonald today and have to say I was very pleasantly surprised. I expected it to be more dated but other than the fact that the technology is obviously 1970s-era, it held up very well, and I have added the others to my TBR.

Oh, Diana, I really liked that book. I hope you do too!

@Eileen, I bought that because of your reaction. I'm looking forward to it!

And sadly it did not work out. I hated the main character and found the others annoying. It ended up being a DNF for me (and even a delete from Kindle knowing I never will.)

Sounds definitive!

Pam (bluegrasspam) | 228 comments I finished Grey Bees and loved it! I went back to the bookstore where I bought it and bought the other book they had by Andrey Kurkov and The Gates of Europe: A History of Ukraine by Serhii Plokhy, both of which I plan to read next year.
