Roza Kerim | 4 comments So I got an anonymous email, a threat in my spam.

This is what it said...

PLUS YOUR PERSONAL INFO GIVEN TO LOCAL THUGS AND SERIAL RAPISTS IN YOUR AREA! YES WE KNOW WHO YOU ARE AND WHERE YOU LIVE. STOP YOUR GOODREADS AND SOCIAL MEDIA PROMOTIONS IF YOU DON'T WANT IT TO HAPPEN! WE DON'T LIVE IN YOUR COUNTRY AND YOUR LAWS CAN DO NOTHING TO US!

Does this happen to you too?

Gina LoBiondo (ginalob) | 8 comments Hi, Roza, sadly yes. I received the identical spam message on August 7th, using the title of my book in the subject line. They claim it will be on Piratebay and plagiarized with AI soon!! These miserable low-lifes have nothing better to do and try to intimidate and extort new authors. I have been dealing with these freaks periodically for 3 years now. They pick random books to leave fake reviews on and it's always the same verbatum nonsense i.e. the author is crazy, it's the worst book they've ever read, blah, blah, blah. A lot of us report them to Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ, they get kicked off, then some time later they open new accounts and it starts all over again. You can spot them right away -- they have no profile picture, no friends or books listed and just a bunch of fake ratings, mostly 1 Star. Oh, and their accounts are always set to private!

Their intimidation threats start out with them leaving 1 Star ratings and have advanced to death threats. One guy was told they were going to chop him and his family up into small pieces to feed to their dog!!!!! Yeah, real gems. Frankly, I find it monotonous now. They try to intimidate new authors and extort money from them, but it won't work with me so now they say they'll pirate my book with AI. Stuff and nonsense!

If you ever get the fake reviews or nasty messages on here, click on the flag next to reply. It will take you to a screen where you can report them. Good luck with your book and feel free to message me if you care to do so. Best wishes, Gina =)

Huhuhu :'( Thank you so much for this post. I was terrified for a second there. I opened my email this type of email using my latest book, In Another Time, in the subject plus the rest.

I was scared not because of AI or plagiarism but because it speaks about rapists and local thugs about my info... like I've seen enough crime and watch true crimes to shake.

Anyway, thank you again.

Elizabeth Devecchi | 2 comments I received the very same email this morning. Disgusting and unnerving, to say the least.
