I am going to nominate Offbeat: Uncollected Stories by Richard Matheson.
I also nominate The Late Breakfasters and Other Strange Stories by Robert Aickman.
These are two men who wrote weird in that period from 1953-1983 when weird went on hiatus, so was generally called something else. My favorite woman writing weird in this era was Angela Carter, but most of her work is long out of print and little of her best writing is being republished. These three wrote (mainly) what I think of as transitional-to-modern weird fiction. There are a dozen others I could mention as well. It's an interesting period.
