Percy Jackson is a good kid, but he can't seem to focus on his schoolwork or control his temper. And lately, being away at boarding school is only getting worse - Percy could have sworn his pre-algebra teacher turned into a monster and tried to kill him. When Percy's mom finds out, she knows it's time that he knew the truth about where he came from, and that he go to the one place he'll be safe. She sends Percy to Camp Half Blood, a summer camp for demigods (on Long Island), where he learns that the father he never knew is Poseidon, God of the Sea. Soon a mystery unfolds and together with his friends—one a satyr and the other the demigod daughter of Athena - Percy sets out on a quest across the United States to reach the gates of the Underworld (located in a recording studio in Hollywood) and prevent a catastrophic war between the gods.

Chapters 1-5
(view spoiler)[ I wasn’t sure I would enjoy this reading it (well listening to it) as an adult but I am. I’m quite enjoying the simplicity of it. The Greek God references are fun, like cranky Dionysis. This moving of places with western civilization is interesting though holy American exceptionalism. I quite like Grover and I’m interested to see what the camp brings. I’m hoping Percy’s mom is actually okay and will come back. (hide spoiler)]

Chapters 6-11
(view spoiler)[ I figured he would be a son of the big three but figured Zeus to be super special, so Poseidon is fun. A lot has happened, meeting all the campers learning about the camp, now he, Annabeth and Grover are on the quest and exploding a bus, trouble really does follow Percy everywhere. I really hope Annabeth isn’t the one who betrays him, but if not her then who? Luke? He’s not really central but I’m hoping it’s him as I don’t want our one nice female character to turn out to be a villain. (hide spoiler)]

Chapters 12-17
(view spoiler)[ I can’t believe they sent these kids off without money. I hope it was in the bags they lost, but if you are going to send 12 year olds off alone, well you shouldn’t but have emergency stashes they can access, they should not be going hungry and stumbling into bad situations because of it. That casino was interesting and very convenient that they then were able to use that card to get a taxi all the way to Vegas. Gabe needs to stop it with this smear campaign of Percy. I really wonder why his mom stuck with him for so long, he seems to have no redeeming qualities. (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[ So it was Luke, good! And I’m so happy he has his mom back and she had the choice of what to do with Gabe, which also his smell kept the monsters away, that’s hilarious. This was really fun and I needed an easy to follow audiobook so this was perfect for that. I’m going to take out the others and see what happens because I’m very curious. (hide spoiler)]
