The Administrative Mini Challenge

This is an optional mini challenge for Boring Life Wheel, which will run from 26th October 9pm UK time until the end of the challenge.

A lot of people do not like paperwork. Of any kind. Yet needs must. So in order to get your office space, and the boxes you hid away in the attic, and the folders that are gathering mold on the shelves, and all those other hidey-holes you found for the paperwork you do not want to do, organised, we have a little something for you to do.

Find books that fits one of the following criteria:

- the main character works in an office
- the plot revolves around an office romance
- tagged non-fiction / nonfiction (at least 10x)
- tagged office (at least 10x)
- the main character works in finance
- the clue to solving a murder is found in paperwork
- someone is murdered in an office
- the plot revolves around white-collar crime
- letters GREY in title
- letters TAXES in title
- letters ADMIN in title

Hello and welcome to Team DIY Disaster!!

I'm sure you all have all been in such a situation at least once, even if it was just trying to glue something together and somehow everything stuck, just not the things you actually wanted to glue together.

Some of us - looking at you Sammy *grin* - have had more serious do-it-yourself disasters, not always through their own fault.

If you want to share one such disaster, feel free to do so! ;-)

Anyway, why are we here? To read books! And to play the game of the Boring Wheel of Life!

Most of you will probably know the Wheel challenge. Some of you might not. Wheel-a-Thon is a fairly easy and straightforward challenge. You read what you enjoy while hunting for the letters needed for our spell-out in title or author/character names :-)

However, one way or another - and I cannot stretch this enough - read the rules, carefully. If you're uncertain, read them again. If you're still uncertain, feel free to ask us captains, we are here to answer any and all questions :-)

Aside from the Wheel spell-out, you can participate in reading the Books of the Month, answering questions to collect even more points for the team.

And then, there are some extra tasks that are there for the fun of it, to make it interesting, add a bit of a challenge and generally get us aaaall the points. So look at the publication dates of your books and the page points. The older and the bigger, the better!

Please remember to create your Wheel shelf if you haven't already done so. When you swing by, please post a link to it, thanks!

Most importantly though - and then I'm going to stop rambling, I promise - HAVE FUN!

message 12: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 12393 comments Hello team!!

I'm Sammy, your co-captain this challenge. I currently live in Yorkshire (UK), and am looking forward to playing with you all this Wheel!

Let's get the disclaimer out of the way:

I have been known to post the occasional bit of *ahem* reading inspiration in the form of pictures of pretty people (always people who have chosen to be in the public eye, and never anything any more revealing than you'd find on a book cover). If you feel uncomfortable with this, please let me know and I'll put them behind a spoiler tag. Conversely, if you wish to see pictures of specific individuals, sing out and I shall see what I can find.

(please note: For those who played along with Thirst Games during the previous NBRC challenge, it won't be anything like that! It's a heck of a lot of work and probably not a good idea while also captaining. I need time to read! 😆. Besides, since it was based on The Hunger Games, anually makes more sense, no?)

With that out of the way... Guess who is currently in the midst of a DIY disaster? (though admittedly, the disasters were what we uncovered when we ripped the old kitchen out. It's considerably less disasterous right now!) I'm really looking forward to when it's all done though!

christene_littlelibrary (cpaulanavarro) | 256 comments Hi everyone checking in

I'm Christene from PH, 28 years old, and a mom of a year old girl. I'm an Occupational Therapist in hospital setting. I usually read almost any genre but my preferred are fantasy, thriller and romance. I loved team challenges but I'm a moody reader so I don’t usually plan my books for the week but I make sure that books fits the tasks as much as possible. So I might put books here and there.

Nice meeting y'all. I am excited and can't wait to get started.

Here's my shelf: z-wheel-a-thon-9

message 15: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 12393 comments Hi Christene!

I wish I could just pick up whatever book I wanted at the time, but if I don't plan everything out I get all itchy-scratchy! Especially when I'm doing several challenges at once and need to figure out how to make it all fit 😆

Hello and welcome to the team!

I'm not a planner either hehe. The only thing I "plan" are my book club books (one a month), and from time to time a BOM. The rest is whatever catches my fancy and fits the team challenge.

Elen | 1269 comments Hi everyone!

I'm Elen (she/her/hers), 28 years old and a medical laboratory scientist from Estonia.
I can't wait to start reading with you all, have a good time and some "nice" pictures to look at (@Sammy - Maybe some eye-candy Korean man to add to your list).

Right now, I read mostly thriller/mystery/crime, a little fantasy, and sci-fi. Previously fantasy was my main genre to read, but in the past years, I have been in a fantasy slump. And my least favourite genre is romance (romance as a subgenre is okay).

That's definitely a score hehe. Preferably also published before 2021 at least? ;-)

I'm going to read the BOM that starts on 16th Oct, so we have an O covered with the author name.

Dawn | 344 comments Hello, checking in!

I love that this is the team I'm in- currently in the middle of a kitchen renovation too and it's gone all sorts of sideways. Currently have 1 lightbulb, no ceiling and a corner of rubble to cook around :D

I'm Dawn, 31 years old, living down in Hampshire and buying too many books to keep up with. Tend to plan my books a couple of weeks in advance, as my Mum and I often try to read the same ones to discuss in our next call. Avid fantasy reader but currently trying out new genres, like Sci Fi and historically based ones.

Look forward to playing with you all!

Hmmm pics- still have a soft spot for Henry Cavill

At least you can cook! I have a bare-bones room atm, but hubby has started building cabinets now, worktops are getting delivered Friday and oven is coming Sunday. I expect it to be another week or two until it's done at least, but I planned ahead and have a huge freezer full of meals I cooked previously that we've been zapping in the microwave at meal times ðŸ˜

message 28: by Claire (new)

Claire | 4216 comments Hello everyone !
Nice to see some familiar names in this team 😊😊
And very nice to see some new ones too. Wheels is my favorite reading challenge, so of course I jumped on it as soon as I saw it was happening.

I'm Claire from Brussels. I read a lot of books, no surprise there.
I mostly read romance, of all genre (Contemporary Romance, Sport Romance, MM Romance, Fantasy Romance etc.) but I also like a bit of Fantasy in the mix and a bit of scifi. As well as some classics here and there.

The challenge starts a bit at a bad time for me, as I just changed jobs last week, and I contracted Covid today. Literally, symptoms started today and I feel pretty shitty. I hope it won't stop me from reading too much... The fever is not exactly helping makes sense of what I read. 😅😅😅 Let's just hope it'll be over soon.

Here is my shelf : Challenge-Wheel9

I love Witcher universe, Witcher 3 is my favorite game of all times, but that series is awful; the only good thing there was Henry Cavill, he really tried to save it :-)

message 42: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 12393 comments Oh no Claire! Feel better soon!

Hi Rina, long time no see, My hubby and daughter have played the Witcher games and enjoyed them. I've not gotten around to it yet (It would mean playing something other than 7 Days to Die, which tends to be our default de-stress option. Nothing like whacking zombies in the head with a baseball bat to vent your frustrations 😆)

I really need to continue reading the Witcher books one of these days...

Cris (The Biblio Blonde) (thebiblioblonde) | 317 comments Hey team! I'm Cris, from midwestern US. I'm married, mom to a college kid (a senior who is about to start adulting) and two spoiled poodles.

I read a lot of mysteries of all kinds... classic, cozy, thrillers. I do branch out to general/book club type fiction, and I definitely read by the season. Beach reads in summer, cozy holiday reads in winter. Right now, definitely in my spooky season era!

Looking forward to Wheel, I love the "read what you want" aspect of it because I am definitely a mood reader!

My favorite books are mysteries, thrillers and suspense. I do read a wide variety of other genres too, like fantasy and sci-fi. Not much of a romance reader, though.

I look forward to reading with you.
