It's a series, read roughly 10 years ago so about 2014, in Queensland, Australia.
Genre was dark fantasy romance. It wasn't explicit, and it may have been held in a school library (though may also have been a public library).
It was about vampires, who had some sort of ship, possibly a skyship. These vampires didn't go for the neck because it was a bad spot to draw blood, so they went for closer to the heart instead.
There was one specific scene where the main male character didn't particularly want to bite the main female character. This was a general thing that he didn't want to do, but he was caught by it in this scene. It is believed he did eventually have to bite her.
There may have been a scene where the female was kidnapped.
This male character was quite high in status, perhaps a Duke or an Earl. He had dark hair.
It was primarily written from the perspective of the female character, who was a human.
My friend believes there weren't other supernatural/paranormal creatures, it was just vampires and humans.
The cover was more dark than it was light.
Not sure how many books were in this series, just certain there was more than one.
Edit to Add: The human female may have been a slave of the vampires.
