I'm almost certainly going to be reading The Quantum Magician again in the near future. What I believe will be the last book in the series is expected to be released around this time next year. Whether that means I should start lobbying for it now or wait for the second quarter is a question for the literary gods to answer.

Well, I'll vote for it now and you'll have to remind me in the second quarter if it doesn't win this time around.

I have scads of books in that series (part of a Humble Bundle), so I'm ready to go on that one

I added it to my votes. While I was in there I picked The Warrior's Apprentice because I'm about due for a reread of the Vorkosigan series.
I have a strong interest in White Cat but otherwise just think more fantasy books should get up voted.

Melanie - I'll add White Cat to my vote. :-)

LOL, really all of these are great, I just really love Homeland. I think I also voted for The Stars My Destination, since I want to reread that.

I read this years ago and liked it at that time. I also added it to my vote.

Me too! Voted for it the first time, it's a pity can't do it again. After The Moon is a Harsh Mistress, want to read more classic sci-fi.
I also root for The last Unicorn and She Who Became the Sun.
Will add a vote for White Cat. Cats are good.

Nevertheless, I'll jump in with classics from both fields: The Last Unicorn, Solaris...
Moreover, for my afrofuturist reader: Karen Lord, Rivers Solomon (who was personally recommended by Ryan). I'm also campaigning once more for G. Willow Wilson, whose Bird King I'm reading now.
Curious about, but not particularly committed to, Neal Stephenson.

Personally, I would really love it if we could do The Poppy War, which is a book my son read recently and really, really wants me and his father to read.
Also, Rivers of London. I have also only ever read one novella by Becky Chambers and would like to catch up. Any of the ones we have on the shelf would be great.

I'll vote for these too, Diane

Drizzt Do’Urden... meant to be sacrificed to...
{laughing} Okay, let's get it over with!
😇🧝♂️⚔
I will also root for White Cat by Holly Black.
Further down, in the 4s:
The Aeronaut's Windlass - Jim Butcher
City of Stairs - Robert Jackson Bennett
The City We Became - N.K. Jemesin

Okey dokey

What can you tell us about either?
I'm happy to see a Neal Stephenson in the list. I'm down with (post) cyberpunk!
I'm also curious about The Last Unicorn.

I'll take The Stars My Destination. Sounds good ;-)

The stars my destination is a classic I’ve been wanting to read, plus it’s short!!

March:

February:
The Stars My Destination (258 pgs)
The Last Unicorn (294 pgs)
March:
The Poppy War (544 pgs)
Homeland (343 pgs)

doesn't matter - the January ones are short so having both in the same month is OK
ditto for February
I was hoping this book made it: The Aeronaut's Windlass as I'm reading it for a challenge on another board (did I mention I'm a glutton for challenges...). Maybe the next quarter...

eventually or maybe not - I'm fine with reading books by myself

If it's all the same for everybody else, I'd ask to have Neuromancer later on in the quarter.
I'm kinda circumspect about starting new series, but this one at least is inevitable for me. I've had the Sprawl trilogy on my literal shelf for a decade and it's been on my TBR for the best part of my life. It looks like a great option for my next big project in the spring 2025. Needless to say, this is a rally for fellow 'punks and a proposal for the inevitable Sprawl VBC!

For the past few years we've gone through a process of voting for and scheduling past reads from the group bookshelf and reading them as a side group. This is intended to work in conjunction with the group Read All the Books! challenge. It is not necessary to join the challenge to participate in this process.
We'll be voting and scheduling for three months at a time. We'll be scheduling two reads per month based on member votes.
1. Voting will take place in
-> November for January-March
-> February for April-June
-> May for July-September
-> August for October-December
2. Schedule will be posted by the end of the voting month
3. Books that have been read by the group (main or reread) in the 24 months prior to the scheduled period will not be eligible, and will not be listed on the form
The only thing you'll need is a gmail login. You'll be able to change and update your votes at any point during the voting process. Books will be listed as title, author, page count.
For all books on the group shelf, see the links at the bottom of Current Events.
