Announcing the 2024 Winner!
Horns of Hammerad has this in the bag ;)
I was surprised to notice my team had reclaimed the lead, after fluctuating all over the place throughout the year (at least 1st/2nd/3rd places)...
Depending how accurate the current inputs are, my team has the strongest last place participant, and that extra team member really helped...

If Niki is around she really needs to update her sheet for Tome Raiders haha!
Niki hasn't input any books in 2 years... not sure how much of a difference it would make, but I know she reads...

Depends on the size of the book. I am finishing my eye read of Words of Radiance tm and all those pages will bring a lot of points 😁

Haha, thanks for the compliment, Iain 🤣
So much for Horns of Hammerad superiority... Choko just pulled a Soo, and plugged in months of books, I think... enough to take the lead from Emily, on their team... and now they're 100pts ahead of 2nd place (Horns)

I usually take this into account when I'm making the teams. I mostly just put her on the team so the fourth team can have a mod captain. :)

Having a captain isn't really necessary, though. Maybe for next year that team can have no captain and be a lawless band of readers who are solely motivated by the prospect of destroying all other teams with the incredible amount of pages they consume.

Too funny, I never have been able to break 1,000 points, even though I vow to do it each year.
Work always drags me down, what a bummer.
Look forward to next year!!
Congratulations to all once the final counts are in!

Ah, I was wondering if I should pull a Soo (love that that's what it's called btw) and input all the mangas/manwhas I read since my team wasn't that far away and I felt a bit guilty for disappearing (again). I was kind of dreading the idea of figuring out 6+ months of reading (I use another website to track mangas) but Choko's last minute update saved me lol.

Virginie, I totally feel you when it comes to tracking manga. I've been reading a loooooooot of webtoons this year and it's been tough guestimating how many pages those might be but defnitely undershot for safety, haha...and fanfic, but I didn't count that here at all, hahaha!
It’s what I call it, Virginie :D
That year she participated, she plugged in 7 months and like 2000 points the night before, after going quiet for 6 months
These days, Soo flipflops about inputting alot of her asian web serials, light novels, etc that she discusses in the Vagabond thread into ŷ at all, nevermind a non-existent spreadsheet

@Mei: graphic novels / manga gets penalized so hard anyway, for points, that even overestimating a little probably wouldn’t hurt too much 25% page count for points vs 100% audio and 125% ebook/physical book

Do we want to finally try putting Iain, Choko and Nirkatze on one team vs everyone else? ;)

Inputting manga volumes is easy, but guesstimating pages for manwhas is hell. I'm also reading lots of fanfics, webnovels and overall stories in all kind of formats that are not books exactly. I kind of want to get points for those but also am too lazy to actually do the work to get those points even if it were allowed hahaha.

It's almost cheating... we guarantee every book is a Buddy Read...

Lol that would be a fun one :D

Looking at the numbers.... We would lose, and it wouldn't even be close xD
Using this year's numbers, it would need to be 3 teams...
The real problem is how much work is involved in changing the team amount... screws the Main Page up alot... we had to build a separate main page the year there was only 2 teams...

Could you leave the XLS 4 teams with the knowledge that team 4 would be 0 points? Give it one team member that never enters anything but saves you time on formatting? You could then hide the tab so no one inputs any data by mistake.

Love this 😂

The rest of us wouldn’t have a chance 😂

Lol this has been considered before, but they would completely destroy the rest of us :D

And how is everyone going to accuse me of picking favourites again if I don't add at least one of the heavy hitters to my team? ;P
4 teams allows there to be competition even if 1st place or last place is locked in early... and keeps things interesting if people join later in the year...
Having only 2 teams one year, the competition locked in pretty early, and lost some of it's luster, from what I remember...
And putting the heavy hitters on one team either makes them the obvious winner, or puts alot of stress on them not to burnout and tank the team, I think?... less room for team to work together to cover any fluctuations...

I always used to... there's a section at the bottom of the main page that adds together the point total of the #1 person on each team, I think...
I like having more teams and the possibility of moving around during the year, even if every year doesn't quite work out 100% competitively...

Who knows if I'll read a ton or middling spree of 200?!?!
It'll be a mystery! Bwahaha
Just don't judge me if I have hypothetical conversations by myself in a solo team?
Me0: Woo! I read 2 manhuas and finished an audiobook!
Me1: You can't take credit for the LN! That's mine.
Me2: Any Wandering Inn reading on the website was done by me. No one else can get credit. Gimme those thousands of page counts!
Hmmm, reading comps that can lead to split personalities. All bookworms. XD

I didn't expect to keep the lead, honestly... was half shit talk tradition, and demoralize the enemy into not bothering to update their sheets because it's not worth it :D >:D
As someone who keeps their sheet pretty up-to-date, I don't/didn't have many points to add on the final days, so I was riding the glory of being first again for the first time in awhile, because Jaghut was consistently #1 when their sheets were up-to-date since at least Mid-Spring...

I didn't know shit talk was a tradition!
dammit

Top 10 will be my goal for next year. I did about 90 points per full month on average. So I would be looking at around 900 points if I started in January and kept that pace. It will depend on how many crazy people participate next year tho.
For my second goal, I will try to go for 1000 points. I want to eye read more next year so it should be attainable.
On that note, if I started in January our team would win 😎

I just did the math...
Ian/Choko/Nirkatze = (view spoiler)
Everyone else = (view spoiler)
Just saying ;)

I’m not really supporting the change but if done we’d have to recruit 2-3 more big point earners to make it competitive in a 2 team format and Emily is the wildcard with reading about to nosedive in 2025 when the baby arrives

Signups will probably be late November / beginning of December, if I remember last year after winner is announced, minimum
The winning team will be announced on November 9 to give everyone some time to update their spreadsheet.
time zone note: My location's time zone is UTC+09:00. I'll post sometime in the evening of the 9th for me, but if you want to be sure all your points are submitted before the announcement, make sure to input all your pages by the 8th.
A reminder that the competition officially ends on October 31 and only books read by that date can be counted, but Iain has set up the spreadsheet so you can continue tracking for the remaining two months of the year if you wish to do so.
