Cynthia | 664 comments I enjoyed reading this a lot more than I anticipated :)

Roald Dahl was one of my favorite authors as a kid but I never read Charlie and the Chocolate Factory until now. Based on the movie adaptations, I pretty much knew what to expect but I still enjoyed it a lot. I was also surprised that the Johnny Depp adaptation seemed a lot more accurate to the book. I thought it would be the other way around. Either way, it was fun to revisit one of Dahl's worlds.

Jan Z (jrgreads) | 376 comments I had seen the Gene Wilder movie version as a child (I'm old), but this is the first time I had read the book. The GW one is pretty accurate with a slight variation on the ending. I like it pretty well.
Those are some really old grandparents. Charlie is supposed to be 8 or so, and his grandfather is 96? That means Joe was mid 40s when he had Charlie's dad, and Charlie's dad was mid 40s when Charlie was born (on average. On both sides of the family, because all of the old people were over 90. It's not impossible, just improbable.

Kelly V | 7 comments Reading this made me feel like watching both the movie adaptations while dancing a jig around the house. The story is both serious and fun. I tore thru the book in one day.

Pony Xaviors (ponyxaviors) | 558 comments I grew up watching the Gene Wilder movie every Thanksgiving with my siblings. I had never considered trying the book before, for some reason. Anyway, it was such a fast read, I read it in one sitting!
