Hi everyone! Thank you so much for showing interest in this group. I think this book would be a great place to start given the political climate we are currently in. I cannot wait to share and discuss everyone's thoughts on this book!

Let me know if anyone has trouble getting this book. Some resources I use daily are the denver public library and using Libby to borrow books. It's a free resource! I can also crowdfund if anyone doesn't have access to this book for free so please don't hesitate in reaching out.

*TRIGGER WARNINGS*

1. **Racial Injustice and Discrimination** The book discusses systemic racism within the criminal justice system, including racial profiling and unfair trials.
2. **Death Penalty** The book contains graphic descriptions of the impact of the death penalty, including wrongful convictions and executions.
3. **Trauma and Violence** Accounts of violent crime, both experienced by victims and those wrongfully accused, are discussed.
4. **Incarceration and Abuse** The book describes the harsh conditions within prisons, including abuse, mistreatment, and neglect of incarcerated individuals.
5. **Mental Illness** There are discussions of individuals with mental illness being subjected to the death penalty or incarcerated without appropriate care.
6. **Grief and Loss** There are several stories of personal and family trauma, including loss, despair, and the emotional toll of injustice.

These topics can be distressing, so readers may want to approach the book with these sensitivities in mind.

Some questions to keep in mind while reading..

How does Just Mercy illustrate the ways in which racial bias is embedded in the criminal justice system, and what are some examples of how racial profiling and discrimination play out in real-life cases?

What are the ethical and emotional consequences of the death penalty as depicted in Just Mercy? How does Bryan Stevenson’s work challenge or reinforce your views on capital punishment?

Stevenson’s mission revolves around seeking justice through mercy. How does Just Mercy redefine our understanding of justice, and how can compassion be a tool for social change?

What role does legal advocacy, like Bryan Stevenson’s work with the Equal Justice Initiative, play in challenging systemic injustice? How can lawyers and advocates help dismantle oppressive structures in society?

How does Just Mercy address the intersection between mental illness and the criminal justice system? What are the challenges faced by people with mental health conditions, and how does society fail to address their needs?

What does Just Mercy reveal about the dehumanizing conditions in prisons, and how does the prison system profit off the incarceration of marginalized communities?

How does poverty contribute to wrongful convictions, and what role does economic inequality play in the criminal justice system as seen in this book?

How does Just Mercy highlight the importance of community support, activism, and grassroots movements in creating systemic change? How can we mobilize communities to fight for justice in our own contexts?

How do wrongful convictions impact not only the individuals who are wrongfully incarcerated but also their families and communities? How does Stevenson’s work bring attention to the long-lasting trauma caused by these miscarriages of justice?

What responsibility do legal and political systems have to ensure fairness and accountability, especially when they fail marginalized communities? How does Just Mercy challenge readers to reconsider their role in these systems?

Just some prompts to think on while reading this book. If you guys would be interested in joining a group call once or twice a month to discuss or chat on here let me know! Thank you for reading this far :)
