1. TBR lists must be posted for the year by December 25. If you missed getting your list posted, you still can. Just complete your list omitting the months that have already been called.
2. You must read your TBR in the month that it is picked. January book cannot be started until January 1 and it must be finished by the end of the month to receive the points. If you miss a month you must start over in point counting.
3. Points received for completed books are;

1 point each for reading 1st and 2nd book
2 points each for 3rd and 4th book
3 points each for 5th and 6th book
4 points each for 7th and 8th book
5 points each for books 9-12

4. After June's book you are able to reset your list before the July book is called. It is the only time for a reset. If you accidentally read a book early your choice is to reread the book or to start over in the point counting.

Look what I found at the bottom of Santa's sack! It's a #4! What will you be reading from your TBR shelf to start 2025?

message 3: by Pamela (new)

Pamela (bibliohound) | 565 comments Season’s greetings everyone! I will be reading Possession by AS Byatt for my #4. I’ve started it twice before and only read the first few pages, so let’s hope 2025 is the year I crack it!

I found The Heather Blazing will be starting off my TBR takedown. Merry Christmas everyone.

Heather Blazing has been on my shelf since 2010 and I think it has been on the TBR for many years. Time to get it read!

Wayne Sweigart | 93 comments My #4 is City Primeval one of my favorite authors really looking forward to this one.

message 6: by Jane (new)

Jane | 331 comments I will be reading 10:04 by Ben Lerner, which is also on the NYT "100 Best Books of the Century" list. So killing two birds with one stone.

Gail (gailifer) | 2126 comments My #4 is the Betrothed. It has been on my TBR shelf forever. So much for getting a head start on Genji or The Idiot. Why I have a 720 page book on my TBR shelf is beyond me but I really do want to read this book.

Nothing like a time crunch to spur you on. Good luck.

It's the 13th month in a row that the randomiser does not pick a French book for me, despite having 6 on my list last year and 8 this year. The probability of such a bad streak happening is 0.46% or about 1 in 218...

Anyway, my #4 is To The North by Elizabeth Bowen.

This pretty much assures that The Betrothed will be a quarterly read next year. That book has been nominated every year.

Good luck with this! I struggled with it, but it was an interesting exercise in writing and reading.

message 15: by Leni (new)

Leni Iversen (leniverse) | 560 comments Starting 2025 with Joseph von Eichendorff and his Life of a Good-for-Nothing. It's a novella, but I'll be reading it in the original so it will probably take me the full month. I'm glad. I've read only in English in 2024, and I really want to maintain my other languages, so this is starting the year right.

message 16: by Rosemary (new)

Rosemary | 676 comments I have 4. Les Enfants Terribles - Jean Cocteau. I have this in English, although Penguin have kept the French title.

Jamie Barringer (Ravenmount) (ravenmount) | 554 comments Looks like I will be starting the year with Ficciones, by Jorge Luis Borges.

I thought that also Kristel.

How are those New Year's resolutions going? Still sticking with them? If doing the TBR challenge is one of them, then you will be reading your #14 in February. Which book will it be?

message 20: by Maddy (new)

Maddy | 38 comments My #14 is Summer by Edith Wharton.

message 21: by Jenna (new)

Jenna | 154 comments 14 seems like the perfect number for February :) I have the Old Devils, which may also be very apropos

message 22: by Wayne (new)

Wayne Sweigart | 93 comments My #14 is The 39 Steps

message 23: by Pamela (new)

Pamela (bibliohound) | 565 comments My #14 is American Pastoral by Philip Roth. There are quite a few by Roth on the list so it will be good to cross one off.

Well, #14 as in 14th month in a row without a book to read in French from the TBR challenge. 0.298% chance of happening (1 in 335). My #14 is Cigarettes by Harry Matthews.

ETA: I have it in audio - a freebie, I think.

Jamie Barringer (Ravenmount) (ravenmount) | 554 comments My book for #14 is Suite Francaise, by Irene Nemirovsky. I just found this book at a bag-of-books sale in October, and know nothing about it.

It is a good one. A nice find.

message 36: by Jenna (new)

Jenna | 154 comments Several of my favorite books being read this month! I also liked the Nemirovsky. And Dr Zhivago is great - this was an early pandemic read for me, which was perfect. And I love all of Edith Wharton and all the early Atwood (although college was so long ago, I can't actually remember much of Surfacing, lol).

Happy reading everyone :)

Gail (gailifer) | 2126 comments My # 14 is Simon and the Oaks. A good one for a short month, especially after my 720 page # 4 for January.

Leni Iversen (leniverse) | 560 comments 12 for me is Death in Venice. I'm excited for it. It's another one I have in the original German, so it will be a bit of a challenge.

message 42: by Gail (new)

Gail (gailifer) | 2126 comments #12 is The Glimpses of the Moon. It will be a second reading for me but I am on a bit of a Wharton kick anyway so all is good.

My #12 is the Dictionary of the Khazars by Pavic, which I will read... IN FRENCH! Finally, after 15 months, the randomiser picks one of my TBR books in French. Let's see whether this is the beginning of a new streak!
