Ann (annrumsey) | 16731 comments I had a good January. - all but one short story were audiobooks; all were 4 or 5 stars

Five stars
Locked In(Department Q, #10) Adler-Olsen, Jussi
sad the Department Q series is concluding with this book - a favorite.

The Big Empty (Elvis Cole and Joe Pike #20) Crais, Robert What a treat to get a new Elvis Cole book. Hard to think of the LA fires while I was reading.

Four stars
I Found You Jewell, Lisa
memory loss and trauma and an unsolved murder / missing person. atmospheric

Don't Let the Devil Ride Atkins, Ace
The Memphis setting and characters are colorful

The God of the Woods Moore, Liz
Liz Moore continues to impress. a very good group read selection. Still haunts me.

Devil's Peak (Benny Griessel, #1) Meyer, Deon
The South Africa setting helped me add this series to the list I am following (a huge list)

Free Fall(John Ceepak Mystery #8) Grabenstein, Chris
a fun New jersey shore setting, another end of a favorite series.

Short story
The Girl who Loved Graveyards (Fantasy and Horror Classics) James, P.D. creepy and not sure when first published, but a classic for sure.

Sandi (sandin954) | 1276 comments I still have a couple of Ceepaks left to read. Looks like the author has transitioned to writing for the younger set.

Deon Meyer is always good but the Benny Griessel series is my favorite of his works.

I love P.D. James but had not heard of the short story you read. Will definitely seek it out.

Dan in AZ | 2943 comments I think there are similarities between Benny Griessel and Harry Bosch, especially the politics.

Ann (annrumsey) | 16731 comments Dan: I hadn’t considered that, but you’re right - there are similarities between the situations of the two main characters in their respective series. The LA setting and the South Africa settings are a large component in each as well. Good point! I’m looking forward to book two of Bennie.

Ann (annrumsey) | 16731 comments Sandi, it does indeed look like Grabenstein is 100% children’s books focused now. I’ll miss the Ceepak books.
