Here are my January reads:
Top Read
The Dead of Jericho - Colin Dexter
A very entertaining entry in the Inspector Morse series. I really enjoyed the plot and found Morse more engaging than in the previous books.
Good Reads
The Dramatist - Ken Bruen
The fourth book in the Jack Taylor series was not the most tightly plotted but had the author's usual style and darkness. Listened to the audio version which was narrated by Michael Deehy who was excellent.
The Sun & The Moon & The Rolling Stones - Rich Cohen
As a young reporter, the author went on the Voodoo Lounge tour with the band and uses that as a jumping off point to tell the story of the band's early years and successes and how things turned during the late sixties.
The Rock Hole - Reavis Z. Wortham
Debut mystery set in a 1960's rural Texas town along the Red River featuring a part time constable/ farmer whose young grandson has come to live with him and his wife. The plot was a bit gruesome but the characters and historical atmosphere were well done. Listened to the audio version which was narrated by Traber Burns who was perfectly cast.
The Victory Machine: The Making and Unmaking of the Warriors Dynasty
- Ethan Sherwood Strauss
An enjoyable read that focused mainly on how Golden State's 2019 season went wrong.
Sicken and So Die - Simon Brett
Charles Paris, the perpetually out of work actor, has a nice part in a Twelfth Night production that is to run for 4 months but soon things start to go awry and foul play is suspected. Listened to the audio version which was ably narrated by Ralph Cosham.
