Sheena Davis (sheenad) | 559 comments I've added everyone to the spreadsheet and a couple of my books to test the traditional x marker for plans as well as a short description, since it needs to be included when claiming a prompt.

I can see pros and cons for both .. which method do you prefer? There's not a lot of space in the cells, but it's helpful to think out the answers (though that could be done in personal notes and not on spreadsheet)

message 4: by Jillian (new)

Jillian | 2834 comments Hi team!

Sheena, I think both ways are fine for the spreadsheet. I’ll probably just use the x since at least 75% of my updates/planning will on my phone and typing is a pain on it. I also track all my reading in my private group.

February has been a really stressful month so I have a ton of books started so I will look to see what books to focus on. I have a lot of free time today to plan. Tomorrow will be really busy so I won’t get much reading done until Sunday.

message 5: by Jillian (last edited Feb 28, 2025 06:56AM) (new)

Jillian | 2834 comments I think, it might be good to see who has plans to read any books on the TPBM recommend books.

I have one book The Bee Sting message 71
I actually started it during the Feb. 2024 read-a-thon but never finished (I’m currently at around 35% done so I will make that a priority read this week).

Absolutely! That's a great suggestion.
eta - I created a list in the message 2 above (so we don't have to scroll through all the comments) and added a line to the spreadsheet for x-ing

message 7: by Jillian (new)

Jillian | 2834 comments Great idea of adding TPBM books to the second message.

message 8: by Jillian (new)

Jillian | 2834 comments I have no clue why on the planning tab one of my options has a colored box, I noticed Kathy also had one on one of her options.

I have to admit this challenge is pretty confusing for me, I don't do as well with subjective tasks. I do much better when it is clear if a book fits or not.

Also, it looks like we can answer a question multiple times.

message 9: by Erica (new)

Erica | 320 comments Hey all I'm very happy to be apart of the Scooby Gang!

I too am confused by this premise. I have lots of books and audiobooks lined up to read, as well as many that are just going to be page count. I have not noticed any in the TPBM thread. 😟

message 10: by Kathy (last edited Feb 28, 2025 11:13AM) (new)

Kathy E | 3247 comments I'm glad to be part of the Scooby Gang too.

I just went through the TPBM list and saw that Heartstopper: Volume One is on the list. It just came in at the library for me to pick up, so that's a good thing.

I'm a bit confused too but I've been going through the questions for one of my books and really thinking if the book could fit. I have to think more creatively to figure it all out. Good luck everyone!

message 11: by Erica (new)

Erica | 320 comments FYI I asked about books from the same series being applicable for TPBM recommendations and its a go. ie: all the Heartstopper books would work.

message 12: by Sheena (new)

Sheena Davis (sheenad) | 559 comments I think most books should have multiple 'answers' to many of the prompts. Especially considering the recent discussion in the FAQ encouraging creative answers / literal truth not expected.

If you're stuck on where to place a book, post here and the team can help with prompt suggestions.

And remember you can a save minimum of 100 pages in your current reads if you'd like to include them when we officially start tomorrow. I'm begrudgingly (lol) pausing Wedding People so I can finish it tomorrow and starting .. something else tonight

Sheena Davis (sheenad) | 559 comments Erica wrote: "FYI I asked about books from the same series being applicable for TPBM recommendations and its a go. ie: all the Heartstopper books would work."

good question! I saw at least one series book (number 3 or 4?) listed and immediately dismissed it since I didn't want to jump into the middle of anything. Nice to know you can start with book one if a series suggestion interests you.

I’m rooting for The Wedding People to win the play-in round of ToB next week.

message 15: by Kathy (new)

Kathy E | 3247 comments I'm saving the rest of my current book, Stone Yard Devotional to read tomorrow. I'll have just over 100 pages left.

message 16: by Jillian (new)

Jillian | 2834 comments Mod Robin posted this in the FAQ's thread. I found it helpful, since I'm definitely literal on tasks and the "you" in this challenge was hard for me.

"Some of our members are very conscientious in following exact directions. For this Read-a-thon, creativity in answering questions is encouraged!

Literal truth is unnecessary - maybe your favorite food is actually pizza but you have a book with salad on the cover - use it! But if something does actually describe you, that's fine too. That would be one way to narrow down the many choices.

Remember you can use the title, the cover, or plot. For instance, questions on success, ideal vacation, favorite memory could be a cover with a picture of a home, a beach, a party, etc. A question about your hobbies or interests could be answered with a book that has such an activity, even if it's not obvious from the title or cover."

message 17: by Jillian (new)

Jillian | 2834 comments Sheena, do you want to post this li k in the second message. It is a list of the books mentioned in the TPBM thread (I learned about it on a different teams thread).

/topic/menti...

message 18: by Kathy (new)

Kathy E | 3247 comments I'll eventually read Heartstopper: Volume One from the TPBM list, message 126.

message 19: by Sheena (new)

Sheena Davis (sheenad) | 559 comments @Jillian
Yes, that's helpful for sure! Linked, Thanks!!

@Kathy
awesome, add to our list in msg 2

I went through the list, and found many I've already read and many I don't have a huge interest in but I do have the Fox Wife so will commit to that for now unless something else pops up during the week. I do want to read Fox Wife but it seems like a slower pace than what I typically choose for a read-a-thon.
Anyway .. I'll read at least one from the list, and more if we need them.

Happy reading team!

message 20: by Sheena (new)

Sheena Davis (sheenad) | 559 comments Sheena NTS page count for beginning of read-a-thon
Starting Wedding People on 281
Staring Charming Liars on page 90

message 21: by Jen K (new)

Jen K | 570 comments Hi all, good to read with you again or for the first time.

I had saved the last 100 pages of my audiobook and finished it this morning. I used The Devil's Star and used it as an answer to superhero or villain thinking that the title made for a good villain.

My brain is mush these days with work trauma since January 24 and I'm struggling a bit to wrap it around these prompts. Please feel free if you think my reads don't quite fit or fit where I'm not seeing them.

For a TPBM Book, I will read The Book Censor's Library which is named in message 9.

message 22: by Sheena (new)

Sheena Davis (sheenad) | 559 comments Hi Jen, Great to read together again!!

Devil is perfect answer to #48
Congrats on filling in our first book!!

I'll add your TPBM to the group list when I get back to my laptop

message 23: by Sheyanne (new)

Sheyanne | 172 comments I forgot to comment earlier that I finished In the Hall with the Knife for the favorite board game prompt.

message 24: by Emma R. (new)

Emma R. | 77 comments Hi team,

Sorry for the late check-in. It has been a busy few days. I'm starting to review my TBR for books. I'm planning on reading Every Heart a Doorway for a TPBM Book

message 25: by Kathy (new)

Kathy E | 3247 comments I finished Stone Yard Devotional for the definition of success prompt.

message 26: by Erica (new)

Erica | 320 comments @Sheena I have a Clean Sweep sequel on audio that I'll for sure get through for a TPBM prompt.

message 27: by Sheena (new)

Sheena Davis (sheenad) | 559 comments We're off to such a great start for our first day!!

TPBM books are updated through here.

I finished 2 books, made a start on an audio but I'm still reading so will update the spreadsheet in a bit ...

message 28: by Jillian (new)

Jillian | 2834 comments Today, was really busy so I only got 90 minutes of audio hours. I’m hoping to have more time to read tomorrow.

message 29: by Jillian (last edited Mar 02, 2025 07:20AM) (new)

Jillian | 2834 comments I’m so use to the read-a-thons needing to answer all the tasks I’m a group before repeating that I recheck the rules. This is for anyone else that was wondering about repeating tasks.

“Multiple members can answer the same questions, but a member can't answer the same question more than once.

I’m up early today so I’m working on finishing How the South Won the Civil War: Oligarchy, Democracy, and the Continuing Fight for the Soul of America by Heather Cox Richardson since it is due back in two days. It explains a lot of why America is in the situation we currently are in.

message 30: by Shelby (new)

Shelby | 33 comments Hi! I joined late but get to be on your team! :)

I started a few books last month but still have 100+ pages in each.

I am also in the middle of reading The Wedding People. If I finish it, can I use it for a different prompt even if someone else already read that one?

message 31: by Jillian (last edited Mar 02, 2025 09:32AM) (new)

Jillian | 2834 comments Shelby, glad you are joining us. The Wedding People works for TPBM (which we are going to need soon). I’m no where near finishing my TPBM book. Also multi people can read the same book.

message 32: by Sheena (last edited Mar 02, 2025 10:03AM) (new)

Sheena Davis (sheenad) | 559 comments Welcome Shelby!! Glad to have you here. That's awesome that you have a little jump start on your reading.

As Jillian said, yes you can read the same book and claim if for another prompt or TPBM

message 33: by Jillian (new)

Jillian | 2834 comments Sheena, they could also use it for the same prompt. This time everyone can complete the same prompt as someone else. The stipulation is that each person can only complete each prompt once.

message 34: by Erica (new)

Erica | 320 comments Welcome Shelby! It seems like so many people are reading The Wedding People this RAT.

message 35: by Kathy (new)

Kathy E | 3247 comments I'm reading The Wedding People and really enjoying it.

message 36: by Sheyanne (last edited Mar 02, 2025 06:45PM) (new)

Sheyanne | 172 comments I finished Murder, She Wrote: Killing in a Koi Pond for the comfort TV show/movie prompt.

message 37: by Sheena (new)

Sheena Davis (sheenad) | 559 comments Erica wrote: "Welcome Shelby! It seems like so many people are reading The Wedding People this RAT."

It seems to be the most 'popular' book in the TOB this year so with the combo of the TOB head-to-head rounds starting this week, plus our ATY prompt #9 (read a TOB book) it's getting lots of attention.

It's super quirky but I loved it. LOTS of trigger warnings though.

message 38: by Jen K (new)

Jen K | 570 comments Finished 2 more last night. Need to finish another that is due to the library today but got distracted yesterday.

message 39: by Sheyanne (last edited Mar 03, 2025 09:32AM) (new)

Sheyanne | 172 comments I just finished The True Love Experiment by Christina Lauren for the soulmate prompt.

message 40: by Sheyanne (last edited Mar 03, 2025 05:55PM) (new)

Sheyanne | 172 comments I finished Distress Signals for the bucket list prompt. I also started Beautiful Ugly earlier, which will work for a few different prompts, and Chocolate Chip Cookie Murder for the food prompt.

message 41: by Jillian (new)

Jillian | 2834 comments I finished How the South Won the Civil War: Oligarchy, Democracy, and the Continuing Fight for the Soul of America today. I probably won’t finish another book until Wednesday.

message 42: by Shelby (new)

Shelby | 33 comments You guys are doing amazing! This week is turning out to be busier than I expected but I’m trying to squeeze reading in when I can.

I’m enjoying The Wedding People so far, too. I have heard good things about it and I think I was more drawn to it because I’m getting married this year

message 43: by Kathy (last edited Mar 03, 2025 07:44PM) (new)

Kathy E | 3247 comments I finished The Wedding People. I really was absorbed in this story!

Starting Heartstopper: Volume One tomorrow.

Congratulations Shelby!!

I've added a bunch of stuff to my calendar later in the week so I'll trying to squeeze as much reading as possible in now ;)

I've just started my TPBM pick and then will reassess what's next according to open prompts.

message 45: by Jillian (new)

Jillian | 2834 comments Emily, clarified in the FAQ that TPBM book can be added early or late (as long as someone has a book that will fit the spot). Just that we should only be one TPBM book behind at a time.

I haven’t looked at the spreadsheet yet today so not sure if we will need to use this strategy or not.

message 46: by Jillian (new)

Jillian | 2834 comments Just looked at the spreadsheet. If it is okay with Kathy and the group. I think we should move The Wedding People to the TPBM spot and shift the other two books up.

message 47: by Sheena (new)

Sheena Davis (sheenad) | 559 comments Hi Team ... I just read the update FAQ note on TBPM from Emily ... we've done it a bit wrong LOL

Your call. My thinking was that you could fill it early (like you could fill spot 20 before spot 19), but you needed to fill it before moving forward (so you would have to fill spot 20 before going to spot 21).

However, if that holds up your group or makes this frustrating, then y’all can decide as a team that as long as someone has a book in progress for that spot, you can skip it and come back to it. I won’t be the challenge police on this one, and it’s not a competition, so do whatever makes this fun for your group.

I would definitely say you shouldn't skip more than one though (so you need to fill spot 20 before you get to spot 30)

So we need to address this. I can probably finish Fox Wife today and slot that in for number 20, and if not we can do as Jillian suggested and juggle things around. Thoughts?

I saw one of the other groups has made a note on the planning sheet for when the TPBM book need to fall so I've added that to our spreadsheet.

And for future planning .. who's close to being done a TPBM book for #30?

message 48: by Kathy (new)

Kathy E | 3247 comments I’m fine with moving The Wedding People to TPBM. We now have two books past that so just shift line 22 to line 20, The Wedding People to line 21, and line 23 to line 22. I think this makes sense.

I am starting Heartstopper: Volume One today and it’s a TPBM book. I have company today so not sure when I’ll finish though.

message 49: by Erica (new)

Erica | 320 comments Well we have multiple wild cards earned so can’t we count TPBM with that and be good on reading in order?

message 50: by Sheena (new)

Sheena Davis (sheenad) | 559 comments Yes, that's a good plan Erica. Seems like the easiest plan to get us back on track.
