Charlotte | 12 comments I am listening to a book on Audio right now. Second Chance by Jane Green. I love her books because they are set in England & that is my "thing" right now.

But I was driving home from work & was BEYOND irritated when I heard the narrator discussing the main character, who lives in London, run into an old friend at Barnes & Noble while their children played with the Thomas the Train playset.

Yes. All children's departments have the playset. But Barnes & Noble is not an international company!! I work for the company & I know that we are not now, nor will we ever be an international company (inventory issues). We ship overseas, but we will never have stores overseas!

Have you ever noticed inaccuracies in books & does it cause you to react differently to the book and/or the author?

lol so funny little things like that do bug me. Im not sure if its really an inaccuracy but in the Jane Austen Book Club she paints the 8 ball and I kept thinking "how in the hell would she paint that and the paint would stay on? its a glossy plastic surface the paint would just flake off eventually and be a big mess" ok likely not exactly what you were going for but I relate to what youre talking about and it does bug.

Christi | 5 comments I wonder if perhaps the publisher changed the name from a British bookseller in the US version.

Or perhaps since the author is a Brit who now lives in Connecticut, she forgot that B&N isn't in England?

Jo When I was reading the DaVinci Code (which I did not like). Nobody ever stopped to eat. It really bothered me. I know it is not exactly what you are looking for, but it's kind of along the same lines.

Amanda (randymandy) | 467 comments Oh, yes! This irritates the crap out of me. It's like the author was too lazy to do the research or something. Or that they think we're too stupid to notice.

Or what if the author is just plain too ignorant to make the book a little more realistic. If that's the case, it makes me think the author is stupid and then I can't respect their work anymore.

Bottom line: Yeah! The inaccuracies are annoying and distracting and I don't like them.

(I suppose I should soften my ridicule a little bit. I couldn't write a novel, so perhaps I shouldn't complain quite so much about other people who CAN.)

Kami | 2 comments charlotte- i just read a jane green book too.
jemima j...i just finished it yesterday- and there is a point when brad calls jemima "jemima" when im almost certain she never told him her real name, just that she goes by "JJ". the rest of the time i just kept thinking about it, and it was driving me crazy!
plus, the whole book is kind of a bad message to be sending people.

Bloomin’Chick (Jo) aka The Eclectic Spoonie (bloominchick) i tend to be more annoyed by discrepencies (is that spelled right?!) between movies based on books & the actual books as well as movies & their sequels!

come to think of it, no one ever stopped to eat in the book 'chasing cezane' either!
