Slayermel | 664 comments After going through the Asian shelf and following some of your discussions I realized it might be a nice idea to have an actual book review section for our readers. I love all the discussions that come out of certain books, and I noticed a lot of you where reading the same book and where dying to discuss it without ruining the story for the other readers.
Soooo I thought here would be a safe spot to get into the nitty gritty of each book discussing characters, endings, and general feels of the book without having to worry about if someone is reading the book.
I think each review topic should be posted with *spoilers* in the title so readers are aware before they jump on in. :0)
So Ladies and Gents, I can't wait to get into discussions with you about what you really think, without holding back, about certain books
Enjoy :0)

*Note: You should still post reviews under the monthly shelfs and I encourage you to still do so as it's helpful for people when selecting books as well as for us to pick the next shelf picker. This section is for the ones you really want to get into detail discussing, without worrying about spoilers :0)

Lynne (lmsindel) *SPOILERS*
I'm glad you put this section here because I really wanted to say something about the ending to the book I just finished, The Nine Tailors.

I reallly like this book and found it interesting for several reasons. The book takes place in a small town in England where the local church is very proud of its nine bells and take the ringing of them very seriously. I had know idea that bell ringing was such an artform, and quite enjoyed learining a little bit about it.

I also learned about the landscape and technology that keeps the "Fen" areas of England hospitable. Not as interesting to me as the bell stuff, but none the less informative.

Finally, what I really liked about the mystery portion of this book is that the Constable and Lord Peter Wimsey were quite often wrong, or had an incomplete knowlege of what was going on. They solved this mystery by bits and pieces, refining theories as they went along and new information presented itself. I felt this was a far more realistic portrayal of how detectives actually work than what you would see from Sam Spade, Miss Marple, or Sherlock Holmes.

I also liked the way the bells ended up playing a major role in the story telling. An encrypted message could only be decoded by having a working knowlege of bell ringing, and in the end, it was the sound of the bells ringing that did the bad guy in. I figured it out right before reading the solution, based on what happened to a mouse in our old garage who died from being constantly exposed to a high frequency sound. I'm sure there are those who think sound could not kill, but I have seen it.

I found this a pleasurable read, and will probably read more "Lord Peter Wimsey Mysteries".

Tara | 742 comments So I am going to post here for those who have read Lost in a Good Book.
***Spoilers***
I am just dying to know if she is able to get Landon back!! I think one of the things I liked about this book was the introduction of Jurisfiction and the little excerpts at the beginning of each chapter.
I also loved the ending... It made me laugh when they started to talk about side-stepping to the ultimate reality... where people traveled on jetliners.

*SPOILERS**

I agree Tara. I loved the way they referred to actual history and society as if it were impossible. It was great. I think my favorite part of this story also was they way that Thursday got to jump in and out of the actual stories and meet characters from the books. That would be so fun if you could actually do it.

As for Landon - I really want to know if she gets him back, also.

Tara | 742 comments I have been bad trying to read the synopses of the rest of the books in the series to get a glimpse of whether she gets him back in the next books... so far if she does they are not letting anything slip.

I did the same thing, Tara. I agree, they are being very tight lipped. I was hoping to get to the third book this month, but I got sidetracked with a bunch of buddy reads. Oh well. Soon.

You guys are in for a treat with book 3 and 4. I think 4 is the best, I look farward to reading 5.

I liked the bit about how when the book characters aren't involved in the story they are just kind of standing aroung with nothing to do. Clever, but it made me a little sad too.

Sara (hoot31) | 196 comments I can't wait. I have them all except 5, but I am soon to get it on paperbackswap. I can't seem to put them down!

Lynne - Do you have 5? I have your three, and maybe 4, but I'm not sure.

Yep.

Emily | 53 comments I thought the third book (The Well of Lost Plots) was much better than the second but of course the first one was the best. I felt like Lost in a Good Book didn't have enough of a plot. I loved learning about Jurisfiction but once I read the third book the second one just seemed like a long setup for the excitement of the third.
I'm just about to start the fourth book and I really hope she manages to get Landen back. I can't wait to see what her son Friday is like.

I just finished a book called Letters To The Lost. It has some history of ww2 and is also present day. here is my review I made.

This book was pure bliss. It may not catch you right away but it has an edge to it that keeps you interested. Not alot of action in it but a good book doesn't need any of that. A good book needs a great story and that is what Letters To The Lost is. I marked this as a keeper and I stand by my decision on that. I found myself crying, laughing, and hating all at the same. Crying and laughing because Dan and Stella's love is so strong, pure, innocent, and true and yet they are torn apart. Torn apart by a character I never knew I could hate some much. I never knew I could physically hate a character so much as I hated Charles.

I love the balance between 2011 and 1943. With Jess reading these letters by Dan and then getting to hear the story behind the letters. To hear Stella's response to these letters and to see the events play out.

I found myself coming back to this book every day. Wanting to hear what happens next. I felt like I was Jess and I felt like I was Stella. Like I was there living their lives. Iona Grey did a brilliant job on creating a masterpiece of Literature. It is such a feel good book in the end and I found myself crying. Gonna keep this gem on my bookshelf and allow it to be borrowed. Read this book if you have not yet.
