Karol | 184 comments As we wind up this year's challenge and head towards 2010, what suggestions do you have for Andrea and me to make this group even better?

message 2: by Merri (new)

Merri i think I am not going to make 75 this year for sure- although I did have a rough year- however if you all would not mind i would try again next year!

Merri, I'm not going to make it either, but it sure was fun trying! I'm looking forward to next year and all the great books awaiting me in 2010!

I don't really think this group needs to change anything. I love that it's such a personal goal- no set readings, no pressure to 'keep up' with the group, and it's great getting to see what everyone else is reading (I've added a ton of books to my 'want to read' list that I'd never even heard of until I saw them here!). That said, there have been a few times where something was recommended by one of the members but, silly me, I forgot to make a note at the time and then had trouble finding the post again...

How about a section for recommendations, maybe organized by genre? That way if someone is in the mood for a certain type of book it would be easy to check and see if any of the other members had come across anything particularly good recently.

Suziqoregon I really have no suggestions. It's been fun and I plan to continue next year.

message 6: by Ola (new)

Ola (ola_cz) nothing comes to my mind right now, maybe later.
it's been great and i'll surely join the 2010 group =)

Merri i sit here laughing- When i signed up my daughter was sitting next to me and said "no way Mom" I guess she was right- however- then we moved and i had a health scare- so not accurate- I am really going to try next year! Also no more 900 page books!

Stacie, thanks for your feedback. I really like that idea about somehow tracking recommended books by genre . . . Andrea and I will see what we can do with that.

Merri, it's fund to have a goal to strive for! You know, by stopping in here I find I get enthusiastic about just reading MORE - no matter how many books or pages I end up with at the end of the year. I'm glad you're here, my friend!

Kay, I agree with you about finding motivation to read more just from spending some time here. I've had so many great suggestions and I'm always motivated when i see someone liking something I have on my shelf. It's like the gym, I love it but I need a little push to get there...lol

message 11: by Michelegg (new)

Michelegg (mggoertzen) I have to say I totally agree with Stacie. I've read so many books this year because people here were reading them. It's been so fun to add to my TBR shelf with books recommended by people here.

Thanks Kay and Andrea for making this such a fun reading year. Can't wait to get started on next year's 75 books with all of you!

hugs
michele

message 13: by Merri (new)

Merri Must take a min to thank Kay and Andrea- I have to say I did not take full advantage of this group in 2009 but I plan to change that in 2010!

Laughed yesterday when I received my 1st holiday present- A World without End- I think that is the title- the squeal to Pillars!! It is even longer I think 1000 pages! All I could think of was if I read this I will never make 75 books again next year- but I will figure something out since it is supposed to be fabulous!

message 14: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thenightowl) Merri, do you like audiobooks? I started listening to audiobooks this year and that is really what has helped me reach 75. Don't mind my thread as it doesn't reflect what I've read thus far. I've only posted the books I wrote reviews for so far. I was able to get in a few whoppers, like the first 5 books of the Outlander Series and still make 75. I usually listen when I'm exercising or sometimes at work if I'm doing a task that doesn't require much concentration. You may want to try it next year.

Kay and Andrea, thank you for making the challenge. I've definitely found myself reading a lot more than I normally would. I'm not sure if I will join in next year because I'm challenging myself to read more classics for the new year, but I will see. :-)

Susanna (jb_slasher) Kay & Andrea,

Keep up the good work. I love that you check up on everyone's progress every now and then :)

jackie- I listen to audio books in my car to and from work-unfortunately lately that is when everyone calls me on my cell-so i don't get to listen much! i work with numbers so at work is impossible-thanks for the suggestion though1

I really think life circumstances just got in the way this year- i am determined to hit at least 60 or 65 next year

Arcadia Barrile (braintasiabooks) Maybe you should add a section for books that members gave a five star rating to so that we could see not only what people recommend, but what they LOVED.
