Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) Laura, I love your comment about hating your favorite heroes in real life. I'd be scared of most of my favorite heroes. They are violently possessive and jealous, and some of them are straight up crazy!

How are you liking this? I picked it up at Walmart the other day.

I'm not good at being bossed around--I'm the alpha, dammit.

Anna (aknas22) | 349 comments I read Death's Mistress, stayed up till the early hours to finish it. It was so good, now on to Bone Magic or Blood Cross.

Mel (mel_b) | 1384 comments Yay Anna, I expect you on the DM board, after you've taken a well deserved rest that is ;) Most people are reading it or almost finished so we can start spoiling soon!

new_user I vote Moon Called!

message 108: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 3123 comments They are all good, I can see where you are having a hard time. I can't really help you out.

message 109: by FlibBityFLooB (new)

FlibBityFLooB | 0 comments Ellen -- I've read Blue Moon, Hunting Ground, Stray, and At Graves End from that list.

I don't recommend BLUE MOON. Hunting Ground and Stray were both good. At Graves End made me cry. I'm sure the others are good as well. ;)

I'm no help *laugh*

message 110: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 766 comments Glass Houses or At Grave's End. One is a quick read, and the other has Bones. What's not to love?

My vote is for Moon called or At Graves End

Gemma (bookmoodreviews) | 101 comments Three was jaw droppingly good. (or was it 5?) YOu know the one with the big death at the end. I threw my book across the room in protest. I just couldn't believe that 'they' had died!

I am so there, ;) Totally enjoyed it.

message 114: by Jess (new)

Jess | 3721 comments I just finished Trick of the Light by Rob Thurman.. it was okay. A little slow moving but interesting nonetheless.

I don't know what to read next, all the books I want to read I'm on a wait list at the library for! blah.

message 115: by Mel (last edited Jan 08, 2010 08:17AM) (new)

Mel (mel_b) | 1384 comments Hmm, what about Death's Mistress (Dorina Basarab, #2) by Karen Chance ? I know you loved Midnight's Daughter.

Don't you hate it when this happens!! Then I am forced to read from my secondary list where things just aren't as exciting.

message 117: by Nichole (DirrtyH) (new)

Nichole (DirrtyH) (dirtyh) I'm reading Stray right now, and liking it a lot. So I would recommend that to you, Ellen, although most of the stuff on your list is pretty good.

I remember reading a lot about people not liking Faythe so much, but I have to say, I really relate to her. If I were in her shoes I would probably do even stupider, more rebellious things than she does; I absolutely can't stand to be constrained or told what to do. I would lose my mind. I actually had a dream that I got kidnapped in a hostage situation after reading that book last night.

I'm 4th on the waiting list at the library for it.

message 119: by Mel (new)

Mel (mel_b) | 1384 comments What? The library has it already? If you can't wait: it's totally worth the 10 bucks.

message 120: by new_user (new)

new_user LOL, Nichole! Interesting. I have a problem with a heroine rebelling for the sake of rebelling. I have a problem with orders too, but in UF and PNR, the heroine's "rebellion" usually also puts many others at risk, etc., etc.

message 121: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 3123 comments Melodie ~ Some how I missed you asking how I liked Torn. It was not bad. This book seemed like some filler, but with the series only being a triolgy and the last one out now, I didn't mind. The premise is an interesting one.

GLASS HOUSES, definitely! BLUE MOON was a total bust.

message 123: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 3123 comments The Morganville Vampires was an addictive series for me as I just found them in October. I think I read the first 6 books in 3 days.

message 124: by Valorie (new)

Valorie I finished Nice Girls Don't Date Dead Men and absolutely loved it! Another hilarious paranormal romance from Molly Harper!! I'm now reading Ecstasy (Shadowdwellers, #1) by Jacquelyn Frank

message 125: by Ellen (new)

Ellen (ellenpenleysmith) Okay... so I think I am going to put the titles into one of those random selectors and see what comes up. Lol. Because today I brought another two books! Graceling and Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief. :/ It's starting to become a really bad habit now buying books every time I go to a store. :(

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) I just started Soulless (The Parasol Protectorate #1) by Gail Carriger . Good, so far. Lord Maccon's pretty yummy. I keep picturing Richard Armitage, although he has blue eyes.

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 3123 comments I just started Kitty's House of Horrors (Kitty Norville, Book 7) by Carrie Vaughn . I love Kitty and am excited for this one especially as it has a lot of secondary characters from the past books.

Yes, I see Cormac's in this one. He's the one I always wanted Kitty to be with. I have to read KITTY RAISES HELL first.

message 131: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 3123 comments Melodie I know what you mean about Cormac and Kitty. I did want them to get together in the first couple of books, I do like her with Ben. Cormac is supposed to get a parole hearing. I am hoping that he gets out, but do think it could make things weird between the 3 of them.

I have been reading the Moon Called series--so good. That is my rec!

message 141: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 3123 comments I am going to the library to pick up a bunch of books that I have on hold. I am excited because this batch is more UF/Paranormal, my last was more mysteries. So I will be busy read these in the next few days.

Bone Magic (Sisters of the Moon, #7) by Yasmine Galenorn
Friday Night Bites (Chicagoland Vampires, #2) by Chloe Neill
Bitter Night A Horngate Witches Book by Diana Pharaoh Francis
Night's Cold Kiss (A Dark Brethren Novel, book 1) by Tracey O'Hara

Not sure if I will start with Bone Magic or Friday Night Lights, but leaning to Bone Magic as that is a new release and Camille's book so there will be lots of crazy.

message 142: by Laura Lulu (last edited Jan 12, 2010 06:50AM) (new)

Laura Lulu (lauralulu) Darcy, did you read the 1st book of the Chicagoland Vampires? How was it? I'm in the Chicagoland area, so I want to read them. :)

message 143: by Anna (new)

Anna (drannouk) | 8 comments I'm going through the Anita Blake series, but am waiting to buy the same editions I have from amazon when they release them, so I am stuck at no. 6. So far I like them, they are indeed fast-paced but I cannot warm up to Anita. I kind of like the characters but they irritate me one way or another. J-C is a bit stereotypical sexy vampire, Richard is a big idiot and Anita takes helself a bit too seriously. What I do like a lot is the fact that there are very few inconsistencies in the books and teh characters seem to evolve with time. All said I will still read them all, but when I read about anita I think of Dorina and how her character manages to be both tough AND humorous. I also didn't quite like LKH post on her website about why her TV series was cancelled (or not picked up at all). It was very self-celebratory and a tad too arrogant. After all Anne Rice was writing amazing vampire stories before her, so anyway...it doesn't matter if you are the pioneer of a genre or not. If someone writes later than you and better than you still beats you.
Right, happy ranting new year!

Now I am torn between reading Charlaine Harris' Harper Connelly series and Kelley Armstrong's Chloe Saunders'....any advice?

message 144: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 3123 comments Laura ~ I did read the first one and really like it. I liked Merit, the main character and thought it was not like so much of what is out there. I would add them to your list

Anna ~ Both series are good, but go for the Harper Connelly series. She just put out the last book, so you can feel free to read all in the series, finish it and get resolution. Then I would do the Chloe Saunders series. The 3rd in coming out in April and then you should be able to read all 3 at once. I thought the first one in this series was super slow, so give it longer than you normally would.

message 145: by Anna (new)

Anna (drannouk) | 8 comments Thank you Darcy!

I will do as you say. I didn't realize the new HC book was the last one. All the better, so the series is now complete!
