I'm an old fogey, so I don't keep up with stuff much, except on You-Tube etc. I had heard of Lady GaGa, but didn't especially know anything about her until I started seeing her costumes, kind of like Elton John's costumes. Your review has sparked a small response to my perhaps wanting to know a little more about her. Some individualists are just a flash in the pan, for whatever reason...perhaps they don't know how to market themselves. Cyndi Lauper and Madonna are a good example...they both came on the scene about the same time, yet you hardly hear anything about CL these days, while Madonna is so famous she doesn't even have to use her last name for people to know who she is. I'm always drawn to individualists, too. With or without mainstream talent.

Thanks for giving me a reason to look for a wider picture of GaGa.

I love Nicholas Sparks. I tried to read all of his books. There are a few that I didn't particularly like, but I like most of them. I'm reading Dear John now.

Sherri - I read the book and saw the movie years ago. Anne Rule is a great true crime writer. Farrah Fawcett plays, Diane in the movie, and I have always thought it was her best role. It is such a haunting story and to think that it is true ... horrifying. I wish I would have seen the 20/20 episode. Her other surviving children I think were adopted by the D.A. on the case.

Donna | 1350 comments Sherri wrote: "32. Small Sacrifices: A True Story of Passion and Murder by [author:Ann Rule|..."

Ann Rule really excells at true crime. I would recommend pretty much any of them. She certainly had a unique perspective on Ted Bundy.

message 8: by Sherri (new)

Sherri (sherrij2003) Daphne: You can see the episode on line...I rewatched it after I saw the movie and started reading the book...that is if you are really interested in seeing it.

Donna: I saw that she had a book on Ted Bundy (from what I gather she was a friend of his but didn't know he was a killer) and I was interested in that one also...how was it? And how were the rest of her books?

message 9: by Donna (new)

Donna | 1350 comments I'm not a true crime fan, so the fact that I've read many of her books says something. I think one of her strong points is the way she writes these monsters without hammering the reader with her opinion of them. You see their evil as it unfolds, she doesn't over do the gory stuff and she does her research. I remember reading "Small Sacrifices" and feeling so sad for those children. As far as the Ted Bundy book goes it's remarkable for the lack of her personal presence. She doesn't go on & on about her relationship with him; just puts out the facts as she has with all her other character studies. At least that's how I remember it. It has been MANY years!

1. Moonwalk by Michael Jackson

I really enjoyed this book. It was nice to get a peek into the life of Michael Jackson that we normally don't know about. I just wish it would have been a more recent book so we can get what he was feeling now a days, before he died.

I love and have always loved Michael and his music. He will truely be the King Of Pop forever!!! While I wasn't even born when most of the events in this book take place it's nice to see what kind of childhood he had, even if it wasn't the best with all the performing and traveling.

I found myself searching for anything I could while I was reading the book to get another piece of the puzzle b/c I wasn't even around when he was starting. I searched youtube videos to see what he was talking about when he mentioned things from the Jackson 5 through his Motown 25 "Billie Jean" performance.

I truely adore MJ and he will be missed!!! RIP! This was a wonderful book!!!!!

2. My Horizontal Life: A Collection of One- Night Stands by Chelsea Handler

I liked this book, very funny parts. I was even stifling a laugh out loud so I wouldn't be asked what I was reading at times. I don't know what I would have responded with if I had to answer the question "What's so funny?"

I enjoyed this book. It was a fast read with a lot of humor.

3. Spellbinder by L.J. Smith

This was the 3rd "book" in the Nightworld 1 omnibus.

4. Queen of Babble by Meg Cabot

As with all the Meg Cabot books I've read this one was also very good. It was a quick read that kept me wanting to read more. I can't wait to read the next one...which I'm starting today...to see what happens with Lizzie and Luke.

5. Queen of Babble in the Big City by Meg Cabot

Another great read by Meg Cabot. I've loved all of the books I've read by her and this one is no exception. I am excited for the last book to see what happens with Lizzie and Luke.

6. Queen of Babble Gets Hitched by Meg Cabot

Still another great book by Meg Cabot. I was a little shocked by the outcome but I am very happy for Lizzie and Chaz. This series was very good and I hope to read more books by Meg Cabot.

7. Are You There Vodka? It's Me, Chelsea by Chelsea Handler

Another hilarious book by Chelsea Handler...while I don't think it's as funny as her other book, My Horizontal Life, it still had me laughing. I don't know if these stories are true but if they are Chelsea has a mighty crazy life and gets herself in numerous unexpected, lol, situations.

8. Push by Sapphire

I really liked this book. It was a horrible experience that happened but it was so well written and was very fast pased to read. I want to see the movie also, which I hope is not ruined by Hollywood, but one I will probably enjoy none-the-less.

I would not reccomend this book for those who do not like vulgar language and curse words though because this book is full of them!

9. 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea by Jules Verne

I read the Great Illustrated Classics version of the book so that is how I finished it so fast. I have 28 of these books to read so I will get through these books very fast...some may think I'm cheating b/c I'm reading "childrens" books but they are classics none-the-less and still have the same story.

10. The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain

Another Great Illustrated Classic book.

11. The Adventures of Robinson Crusoe by Daniel Defoe

Another Great Illustrated Classic book.

12. The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle

Another Great Illustrated Classic book.

I didn't care much for the first story but the second two stories were much better.

13. The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain

Another Great Illustrated Classic book.

14. Around the World in 80 Days by Jules Verne

Another Great Illustrated Classic book.

For some reason I thought this book was about a man going around the world in a hot air balloon...I guess I was wrong. I liked it either way though.

Took me a long time to get through it because I'm involved with the County Fair and I'm not home much to read. I'll have to catch up now!

15. Black Beauty by Anna Sewell

Another Great Illustrated Classic book.

16. The Call of the Wild by Jack London

Another Great Illustrated Classic book.

17. My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult

I first heard of My Sister's Keeper because of the movie. I bought the book before I saw the movie however it sat on my shelf.

Two weeks ago I watched the movie and thought it was pretty good. As I finished the book I was very surprised by the ending and the huge difference between the movie adaption of the book.

This book was very well written and a wonderful story. I loved the way she wrote the book from all the characters points of view. It was something different and I loved it.

This was an excellent book and I am excited to read more of Jodi Picoult's books in the future!

18. A Walk to Remember by Nicholas Sparks

This was a very good book, however also very sad.

I've seen the movie and I was very surprised that it did not follow the book at all. Yes, the story line was basically the same but everything else was different.

All in all, this was a very good book. This is the second Nicholas Sparks book I've read and I have plans to read more in the future!

19. Scandal by Kate Brian

Another great Private book. Left with a huge cliff hanger as usual, the only thing I don't like about her books...but I guess it keeps you wanting to read more!

20. I Hope They Serve Beer In Hell by Tucker Max

This book reminded me of the Chelsea Handler books...only a guys version and way more raunchy. I thought Chelsea was bad about some things but Tucker is way worse!

21. Miles to Go by Miley Cyrus

I really enjoyed this book. It gives you a glimpse into Miley's life and you learn that she isn't as perfect as people try to make her out to be.

I'm 25 and I like Miley Cyrus and I think the people who make rude comments about her are just jealous. She is just a normal girl living life the best way she knows how and has many of the flaws and problems that normals girls her age have.

22. Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll

This was a very queer book.

23. Through the Looking-Glass by Lewis Carroll

This was just as strange as the first one...well maybe a little weirder!

24. Lady Gaga by Emily Herbert

Lady Gaga's music has been played a lot in my house. I love her music. This book was a great insight to this strange and very talented woman. It goes from her childhood through her Bad Romance single and meeting the Queen of England. It was nice to see what the story is behind why Lady Gaga does and why she dresses the way she does. She is truely an amazing artist that I hope will be around for a long time, and since she writes her own music it makes her all the more unique!

25. Cinderella & Other Stories by Rochelle Larkin

Another Great Illustrated Classic Book

Stories include:
Cinderella
Jack The Giant Killer
Tom Thumb
The Ugly Duckling
The Dragon And His Grandmother
Rumpelstiltskin
Pinkel The Thief
The Enchanted Wreath
Princess Mayblossom
How Monti Won The War

26. Message in a Bottle by Nicholas Sparks

This is the third book I've read by Nicholas Sparks and it did not let me down. It was beautifully written and of course had me crying at the end.

Some people may not like his books, or so they say, because they are so predictable...however they have all been different in their own ways and all carry a different message. I loved this book and hope to read more by him very soon.

27. The Complete Walt Disney World 2010 by Julie Neal and Mike Neal

This book is filled from cover to cover with excellent information about the 4 Walt Disney World Theme Parks, the 2 Water Parks, Downtown Disney and the numerous hotels on and around the Disney property.

I live just 2 hrs south of WDW and have traveled to the parks multiple times but I still found this information helpful and useful. I am planning a trip in May so I wanted to get the up to date informaiton about my favorite theme park and this book did just that!

I expecially like the fun finds and fun facts at the end of each attraction description as well as the Hidden Mickey sections.

28. Good in Bed by Jennifer Weiner

Wow! I'm slacking on reading this month...only 3 so far. And next month probably won't be much better b/c I'm going on vacation for 4 days :( Oh well...

This book was very good. I myself am a "larger woman" and it was great to see a lead character in a book that is "larger" too. I'm also glad that Cannie overcame her image and started to feel comfortable in her body towards the end. I am starting the sequal to this book (Certain Girls) tonight!

29. Certain Girls by Jennifer Weiner

Took me forever to finish this one because the beginning was kind of slow and I went on a trip to Walt Disney World for 4 days and didn't have time to read at all.

30. Glee: Totally Unofficial, The Ultmate Guide to the Smash-Hit High School Musical by Lisa Damian Kidder

I love the show Glee!!! This was a very information book about the cast and characters and how they got started. It also told of some celebrity appearances that will happen in the future. I can't get enough of Glee and this book helped fill my obsession.

31. A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens

Another Great Illustrated Classic book.

32. Small Sacrifices: A True Story of Passion and Murder by Ann Rule

I saw a special on Diane Downs and her daughter Becky Babcock on an episode of 20/20 a couple weeks ago. The story was horrific but intriging to me. In the episode they talked about how this woman, Diane, had shot her 3 children, killing 1 of them and injuring the other 2. She blamed everything on a "bushy haired stranger" who shot the kids, but she was still found GUILTY in her long trial. Before she got arrested she became pregnant with Becky (who was originally named Amy) and the 20/20 episode focused on her and how she is coping with knowing that she biologically has a "monster for a mother."

In the episode they talked a lot about and showed clips of a book and a movie called Small Sacrifices. I immediately wanted to read the book and see the movie. I found the movie on youtube.com and watched the whole thing. I also went out and purchased this book. It is a very scary thing to think that you aren't just reading a book...that this was a true story, but the book was excellent. I encourage anyone who is interested in this case or just would like a good murder mystery (even though it is a true story) to read this book.

33. The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas

Another Great Illustrated Classic book.

34. David Copperfield by Charles Dickens

Another Great Illustrated Classic book.

I really enjoyed this book. Quick read and a little different from other vampire books. Looking forward to reading the rest of them. I have the next 2 on my shelf ready to go.

36. Living Dead in Dallas by Charlaine Harris

I really liked this one. It kept me going...twice I had to put the book down b/c of work and I didn't want to do anything but read it. I am excited to read the rest of these books, I don't know why I took so long to read them!

37. Sweet Deceit by Kate Brian

This book for me kinda started out slow but by the end I couldn't put it down. I can't believe that one person can kill so many people and have no problems with it. She must seroiusly be psychotic. And to think she killed one of her best friends in the end...how far will this girl go before she gets caught?

38. Club Dead by Charlaine Harris

This one started out a little slow for me but once again I was sucked in within a few pages. It took me so long to complete it because I was trying to catch up on watching True Blood, which by the way I love also. I'm starting the next one tonight in hopes that it is a good as the others have been.

39.Dead to the World by Charlaine Harris

Every time I think I found my favorite Sookie Stackhouse book another one pops up that I like even more! I'll say this once again...I don't know why it took me so long to read these books, but I'm loving them!!!!!

40. Twenty Boy Summer by Sarah Ockler

This was a very good book, sad also!

41. Songs of the Humpback Whale by Jodi Picoult

I cheated a little while reading this book. I had read several reviews that this was not a good book and that Rachel's part goes backwards so I read her part in reverse order. I read the story as presented but when it came to Rachel's part I read from the back of the book...I guess I kind of cheated the system a little bit, but this is why I probably liked the book so much better than most people.

42. Great Expectations by Charles Dickens

Another Great Illustrated Classics Book.

I really enjoyed this one!

43. Pretty Little Liars by Sara Shepard

I really enjoyed this book. Kept you guessing and left a cliff hanger to want to keep reading to find out who "A" is. I started watching the first season of the show and have enjoyed that also.

44. The Boy Next Door by Meg Cabot

Wow...I read this book in 2 days (a record for me)! That should tell you something... This book was quite different from any other book in that it was written in emails...all of it. I loved this book, as I have with all other Meg Cabot books I've read. She just has a way to write a book that captures your attention, is funny, and hard to put down.

45. Heidi by Johanna
Spyri

Another Great Illustrated Classics Book.

46. Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling

It was really nice to see the true story of the Jungle Book. Disney does an amazing job with the story but the real stories are very different.
