Which books do you like with heroes who are hired killers, assassins, or mercenaries (soldiers for hire)?

Verra good. ;)

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish I loved all the Darkyn books, except the last. I was sorry to see that end.

I'm excited to read Skin Game. Love an assassin hero.

Some other ones:

Shadowheart by Laura Kinsale
Born in Sin by Kinley MacGregor (ex-assassin)
Death Angel by Linda Howard

message 10: by Othena (new)

Othena I see someone already beat me to Death Angel. :)
This was my favorite read of 08.

message 11: by Melanie (new)

Melanie (melaina) | 411 comments Oh, Danielle I loved Born in Sin! I think there's also one about a female assassin in a Tina St John? (don't know if she had a lot of kills under her belt though)

Maybe Black Lion's Bride?

I love this theme as well! I put Skin Game and Cry No More on my TBR GR list, lol (like I don't have enough yet! I'm at 412 to-be-reads, and only half of those on my shelves at home!)

Kathy Anne (kathyanne) Kiss Me While I Sleep-Linda Howard
Lucas is a CIA Assasin, told to bring in Lilly, dead or alive, she`s also a CIA Assasin thats gone off the deep end.
To me the story is more mystery than romance, but as they get to know each other what will happen to them gets real interesting.
A good picture by Linda in this book of how female CIA Assasins operate.
The ending is so good,I always need a Kleenex.
Read my review under my profile if you are interested in spoilers.
This is John Medinas 3rd book but there is only a couple of paragraphs about them in it,it does tell where they are at in life and what Niema is wanting for them.

I'm very interested in reading Kiss Me While I Sleep. It's in my pile of LH books to be read.

message 20: by CaliGirlRae (new)

CaliGirlRae (rae_l) | 279 comments That sounds like it's a good one! I'm going to have to pick it up. :-D

Thanks Kathy Anne!

Susan (the other Susan) (theothersusan) | 259 comments Kiss Me While I Sleep is my favorite Linda Howard book, Danielle. An oddly endearing love story wrapped in the assassin theme.

Susan (the other Susan) (theothersusan) | 259 comments Oh, and in addition to Kiss Me While I Sleep, there's Cry No More.

Death Angel climaxed early, so to speak, with The Balcony Scene. I kept wanting the rest of the book to live up to that.

Meanwhile, back at Assassins, am I once again going to blurt out "Ice series, Anne Stuart, delicious cold-hearted gamma heroes"? Yes, I am.

Peter from Cold As Ice is my assassin boyfriend. :-)

Teena Dacey | 1 comments Hi everyone,
I'm new to the group, but picked up on this thread through my email. I hope I'm not repeating a previous recommendation..........Two other books/series I loved with this theme "Otherwise Alone" series (1 Novella and 2 full length books) and "Surviving Raine" both by Shay Savage - they were phenomenal!!!!!! Can't recommend them enough, and the sequel to "Surviving Raine" is coming this year and will feature the H or in this case - Assassins from both storylines' (sqeeeeek)

The Prakenskiis were raised in a government school and all trained to be assassins. The first book about them is Turbulent Sea (Drake Sisters, #6) by Christine Feehan , but they continue in a new series Water Bound (Sisters of the Heart, #1) by Christine Feehan Spirit Bound (Sisters of the Heart, #2) by Christine Feehan Air Bound (Sisters of the Heart, #3) by Christine Feehan

On the Edge of Love On the Edge of Love (Mama's Brood, #1) by Shay Rucker The hero is a merc; the heroine is on the run from a crime lord.

message 29: by Nancy (new)

Nancy | 22 comments Lisa Marie Rice has this theme in her Protectors, Midnight and Dangerous series.

Another recommendation is the McClouds and Friends series by Shannon McKenna.

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) Anne Stuart's Ice series has the best heroes in this genre IMHO.

message 31: by Katya (last edited Aug 19, 2015 03:20AM) (new)

Katya | 327 comments I have to admit I have a hard time with assassin love stories. They really need to be written in such a way that I really can believe they are redeemable. ie: Born in Sin (Brotherhood/MacAllister, #3) by Kinley MacGregor

I am reading a series now that I enjoy but am on the edge about:
Ivan (Her Russian Protector, #1) by Roxie Rivera Dimitri (Her Russian Protector, #2) by Roxie Rivera Yuri (Her Russian Protector, #3) by Roxie Rivera A Very Russian Christmas (Her Russian Protector, #3.5) by Roxie Rivera Nikolai (Her Russian Protector, #4) by Roxie Rivera Sergei (Her Russian Protector, #5) by Roxie Rivera Sergei 2 (Her Russian Protector, #5.5) by Roxie Rivera Nikolai 2 (Her Russian Protector, #6) by Roxie Rivera Lion's First Roar! (Her Russian Protector 6.1) by Roxie Rivera Kostya (Her Russian Protector, #7) by Roxie Rivera Alexei (Her Russian Protector, #8) by Roxie Rivera Danila (Her Russian Protector, #9) by Roxie Rivera Vasya (Her Russian Protector, #10) by Roxie Rivera

It is about a mob family in houston tx....Kostya's book is about to come out and I am excited...but he is the "cleaner" and is an assassin. I am really worried about this book....will I love him? or will he make me want to put down the book?

I'm reading this right now. Enjoying it. I think the heroine steals the spotlight. She is awesome. Fierce and dangerous like I wish more heroines were.

As much as I love assassins, I get your point. I don't care much for the mobster theme, so it takes a special writer and a special story and character to make me reach for that kind of story. I do have the first three of the Roxie Rivera series on my tbr pile.

Yes, I have but I was a bit disappointed in it. Somehow it didn't seem to have the subtlety of the previous books, whether or not he would kiss or kill. It all seemed a bit obvious to me. (view spoiler)

I've read all the Roxie Rivera mobster books as well. They were a real surprise. Terrible premise, I mean these are Russian mobsters after all but really compelling, addictive stories. The first novella is average and then they really improve after that. Wondering about Kostya's book too.

I see your point, Lisa. It was definitely less subtle, that's for sure. I felt it was true to her voice though.

I haven't started the Rivera Russian mob books yet. I'm intrigued because I have a soft spot for Russian heroes. :)

McGee Magoo Zero at the Bone (Zero at the Bone, #1) by Jane Seville is a great M/M romantic suspense. D is a paid assassin but he refuses to kill his next target and instead takes him on the run.

I might give it a read. I'm a little squeamish about erotica though.

I'm several chapters in and it's good. An interesting hero and heroine. An intriguing tension between the 2 leads.
