Here is Steyn (my cousin Danene's first born) party history
When he turned 3 I did a pirate party for him, we turned his jungle gym into a pirate ship, it was so cool!!! Painted pirate flags, made all the kids treasure chests with goodies in, made them red bandanas with skulls drawn on, the all had the eye flap and I drew scratch marks on their faces, made some of their eyes blue and some of their teeth black to make them look like pirates. We also did a treasure hunt for them...
When he turned 5 it was a stick and hat party, we did it up in the mountain (at a reserve where people can braai) and the kids made stick bread and had to bring a hat and won prizes for the best one, my cousins baked a cake that looked like a camp fire... the kids could run around in the woods and it was so much fun.
Last year was zorro, and we made them all capes and black bandanas for their heads, also pouches with goodies that they could strap around their wastes. Then a girl was Lolita and she was tied to a tree (again in the woods) and they had to go and find her...
For Nina (Steyn's sister) When she turned two it was Hallo Kitty, very plain, but with Hallo Kitty literally everywhere! Her birthday is in July, so we transform my cousins braai area into her party area. Her third birthday was the best, I did fairy world for her, I made fish lines with crystals attached, and ribbons and little fairys, all pink and purple and sparkling... hanged it up everywhere. I also had loads of pink material, draped it all around the room, made it look like a tent, then took ivy and put it all around to make it look like fairy world, we had little pales that were partie packs, with flowers all over, it was really beautifull, I made skirts for them all as well. Last year was mermaids, transformed the place to an undersea world, with blue see through paper accross the sliding doors, fish pasted against it, shells haning from everywhere, some different shades of blue and gold material hanging as waves, we made tails for the girl... painted their faces sparkly... so pretty.
Mila, (My cousin Lerine's eldest child) her birthday is in December, so for her 2nd birthday we did ladybirds, I made brown bags with big bright red ladybirds pasted on the top, with black spots and wiggly eyes. We made little cups with the lids like a lady bug and fille it with sweeties, the balloons where shaped like lady bugs... everything was lady bugs... it was really pretty. Her 3rd party was a Bugs life, I took toilet rolls and transformed them by painting them and putting on wings into butterflys, bees and lady bugs. We put umbrellas everywhere and hanged all the bugs up. We got masks for the kids shaped like ladybugs and bees. Made jelly cups for them... It was outside and it was so beautiful, I made black skirts for them with red spots on... for her 4th birthday we did Tinkerbell. Again we had umbrellas. I made little see through pales that I covered with yellow tule. That was the party pack. then I made pink and green skirts for all the girls, made wings for them to. Her brother Nicholas turned one so he had Peter Pan, as his birthday is just two weeks before hers we had it together, so I made peter pan hats for all the boys from felt. Then I got pretty colored "linte"? and hanged it up everywhere... it looked like candy stripes... we had beautifull baloons everywhere (I love balloons) and blew bubbles for the kids... we also did their cooldrink in little clear plastic bottles with colorful straws sticking out...

I am also trying to express myself through poetry
I love the outdoors and try and go hiking as much as possible
And I am also learning Sign Language at the moment.
Ooh that all sounds so interesting
Tammi, I once tried the poetry thing, it didnt really work for me, but I love to read it...
What are some of your fav poems?
I'd love to learn sign language, I think its an amazing ability...
Lauren, I love to try out new restaurants to and I love to write, not always stuff that make sense, even if its just making notes hehe

I love to read poetry as well and I always envied poets their words. For me, words are like music or a really good meal! And I love it when words create the picture inside my head. I always tried it, even when I was young, but its taken me 30 years to write my own poetry, so hang in there:-)
For some reason - I am not sure why - but this is my favourite poem: its by Emily Dickinson
Hope is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul,
And sings the tune -- without the words,
And never stops at all,
And sweetest in the gale is heard;
And sore must be the storm
That could abash the little bird
That kept so many warm.
I’ve heard it in the chillest land,
And on the strangest sea;
Yet, never, in extremity,
It asked a crumb of me.

Isn't it a good thing we live in SA, that we can enjoy hiking and the outdoors so much?

Yes I love it :) I don't hike much now that I'm living in Pretoria, but I used to go quite often when I was living in Cape Town. We have such beautiful natural heritage.
Sometimes though, I wished I lived in a really green country, like New Zealand or Ireland, or in one of those small American towns surrounded by gorgeous forests.

I love to travel and I once spent 3 years living in Turkey on a boat sailing around the Med, it was a fantastic time in my life and one I Will not forget.I hope one day to travel to Japan and China I love anything to do with the far east.
I love to try different food, and although I dont really enjoy cooking I love watching cookery programmes and so BBC LIFESTYLE is my channel of choice on DSTV. I just love the Hairy Bikers!! Im not sure you South Africans would understand them though lol
I would be quite happy living on my own farm living off the land in the country side somewhere. I can just see myself making my own cheese and collecting eggs from the chickens. Thats my type of life, I am not a city girl at heart.

LOVE horses. They have been a lifelong passion of mine. Not that I have one currently, but I get my fix as often as possible.
I blog and generally troll around the internet.
I sketch when I have the time.
I also love markets and book bargain hunting. The local SPCA stall often gets into some good buys. Plus I can get my R3 Mills and Boons and not feel too guilty about liking them so much. :)

Nice :) I've always loved animals and nature as well, and I did horse-riding for about 8 years. I miss it now but it's so expensive.

Oh, I forgot to mention, I have two guinea pigs. Makes me a little geeky I know, but hey. :)

I think guinea pigs are only geeky if you have them for scientific experiments. I'm hoping not... :)
Hey NovelYear and dearest Lauren
I love animals...
NovelYear, do you ever go to your local SPCA and help out or something?
I went the other day and played with the cats and dogs, they're all so darn cute!!!!
Guinea pigs are so cute, nothing wrong with having one.
I'm currently looking for a black female spaniel in the cape town area (Boland as well) for January, so if any of you comes accross an ad or know of someone who have any please let me know?

I walk the dogs on occasion and do street collections. Standing by a traffic light with a tin! It's really surprising who is the most generous with their change. Usually, it's the people in the older cars than those in the flashy new ones.
They're having a "Bark in the Park" this weekend. Nice fun 5km walk in aid of the SPCA. I'll be going with my camera! Sadly, my little mutt is too old for it now. She'll be exhausted after the first few k's!
Were do you live Novel?
I know what you mean, I do collections some Saturday for a local Autism school we have here, and its mostly the people who dont seem to have a load of money who give the most!
I usually stand at a robot were loads of rich farmers past, and they NEVER give anything!
I'd love to organise something for my local SPCA.
My bf does their monthly books for them for free, to help them save money and stuff. I take food for the animals and stuff they need...
I currently have 2 dogs, a boxer and a schnauzer, both are pretty old now, the boxer gets really tired when we go walk, and the schnauzer has developed some aches and pains to

My best friend lives in Oudtshoorn... :)
I'd love to adopt a load of dogs, really, but I'm not allowed to, see I still live with my parents and my dad wouldnt like it. When I go to the SPCA I get so sad because I have to leave them there...

Is anyone else watching the Royal Wedding? I didn't think I would but I've been watching it for the last 3 hours or so. Couldn't wait to see the dress and now I'm waiting for the balcony kiss.

I don't see the point in showing the wedding on TV. My mom and I were debating it yesterday, but hmpf, I don't care that everyone wants to see it. I'll just roll my eyes and walk away.

Even my boyfriend asked what the dress looked like though (he's at work). Was so shocked :)
I watched it and loved it!!! Maybe it is because we have our own royal family in the Netherlands and are more familiar with these kind of things. I even had my own run in with royals when I was at university. I love the whole tradition part of it and the ceremonial stuff that is even more elaborate than it is in the Netherlands. I don´t like discussing it too much but I like to see who´s there and who´s not especially in this case. But I am interested in royals anyway. And besides that I always watch these kind of things (weddings, funerals, inaugarations, elections, disasters, etc) if I am interested or not. It is part of history and world news and I want to stay informed.

I loved the dress even though it was very simple. I also loved the dress her sister the maid of honor was wearing.
There are indeed a couple of things that she still has to work on so to speak. But than again she is a commoner who has no training in these kinds of things but you can see that she is getting used to it and is doing better than a couple of months ago.

Yeah but is so designed because if you wave to enthousiastically your hand and arm gets sore. Really.
Lol I just found it a bit erratic, but hey other than that I think she did amazing, just imagine all that attention
The expectation is that 2 billion people would be following the ceremony one way or the other. I can't even begin to imagine 2 billion people watching me. I wouldn't leave the house.

I prefer simple :) Her sister's dress was lovely.
Wow, I didn't realise there are so many things to notice. I heard one of the commentators saying that David Beckham wore his medals on the wrong side, or something.
Yeah he did. He is an OBE and you're supposed to wear medals and honorary crosses on the left side of your suit or uniform and he wore it on his right lapel. I am not even sure if you're supposed to wear it on the lapel, I don't think so, but it looked funny.
Oh there are a lot of things to notice like the bow for the queen, the honoring of the guard and or flag, who has right of passage (the queen always goes first) etc. It can be a real nightmare if you meet a royal for the first time and especially if you make a faux pas.

And also make new discussion for our other interests in this folder!
