anyone ever read My Abandonment i found it at the library (looking at last names to see what I might find to fit :-) ) and came across it and it sounds good.
I haven't read it, but one of my librarian friends who does a lot of reading and reviewing gave it 4*.
Nancy Garden! ...Except I think I've read everything of hers that's still in print. Darn. I was going to use George Selden's The Cricket in Times Square, but I changed that to the "pet" part of Helen's task.
Does the initial count? So if I decided to read something by Gary D. Schmidt, could I just pretend the "D" doesn't exist?

Susan Elizabeth Phillips is contemporary romance with a VERY chick-lit-y vibe. (Or at least What I Did for Love was...)Susan Spencer Paul looks romance...
I don't see any straight-up contemporary chick-lit, though... But check Susan Elizabeth Phillips out, and see what you think.
