Karen M | 1436 comments Just keep entering!

message 452: by Sue (new)

Sue (suetinge) | 622 comments After winning 3 in a short time-span I haven't won anything in a few weeks. I just entered a bunch more today so hopefully I'll have something new coming soon.

message 453: by Karen B. (new)

Karen B. (raggedy11) | 232 comments Actually I am kind of glad I didn't win anything in the last week because I am so backlogged on catching up, especially with the wins from the other sight. Luckily I have had three or four really good books to read in a row.

Raising Stony Mayhall by Daryl Gregory

Too Far Under by Lynn Osterkamp

Megan's Way by Melissa Foster

The Devil's Light A Novel by Richard North Patterson

Katherine Don't know if a new roll is starting but I won All Cry Chaos
by Leonard Rosen
today. Just in time--Almost finished Dominance and still don't know who the murderer is!

All Cry Chaos by Leonard Rosen Dominance A Novel by Will Lavender

message 455: by Karen B. (new)

Karen B. (raggedy11) | 232 comments Katherine, is Dominion as bloody violent as the cover looks? I am picturing a lot of people getting hacked up.

message 456: by Karen B. (new)

Karen B. (raggedy11) | 232 comments Today I received a copy of "crucibles" which was my last Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ win. I didn't realize at the time I put my name in that it was a book of poetry by the same poet whose other book I had received as a goodreads win. This book was even better than the first! It probably wouldn't appeal to a lot of people but it was very spiritual for me and very touching.

Heidi | 2446 comments Heather L wrote: "Congrats to today's winners! Linda, Steph and Karen M won titles I was entered for, but no luck here again."

Me neither. I haven't won anything for about 15-16 months. Boo!

message 458: by Ellen (new)

Ellen (elliearcher) No luck for me either this time. But I'm sorry Heidi-that's a long time!

And Karen-how great you won the book of poetry that was so right for you.

Congratulations everyone!

message 459: by Karen B. (new)

Karen B. (raggedy11) | 232 comments I am surprised I haven't won anything from "the other site" in a several days.

message 460: by Katherine (new)

Katherine Karen B wrote: "Katherine, is Dominion as bloody violent as the cover looks? I am picturing a lot of people getting hacked up."

Actually, no, though the murders were axe murders and books were strewn onto the bodies, the actual crimes predate the action in the book. There are several that occur over the course of the narrative but Lavender uses psychology and mystery rather than gore to keep you reading. Maybe I should add that to my review which I wrote this morning when I finished the book! LOL

message 461: by Karen B. (new)

Karen B. (raggedy11) | 232 comments I haven't read your review yet, will have to go read it. I am laughing too at the irony of asking you that after, as I pointed out to Ellie, I thought "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter" was a great read! I was sold on that from the trailer posted on Amazon and wanted to read about a tough Abe rather than the picture I imagine of the worrying Abe who looks like he's constipated in most of the pics. I love Abraham Lincoln, no insult intended. But I was always think of him as humble and meek.

Katherine Karen B wrote: "I haven't read your review yet, will have to go read it. I am laughing too at the irony of asking you that after, as I pointed out to Ellie, I thought "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter" was a great..."

Now, see, that is a book which holds no interest for me--since vampires have never appealed--even old Bela! Funny, I think of Lincoln as strong and take charge but also depressed rather than constipated or meek. Funny what we see in pictures isn't it? That's why I think art critics are a laugh! Movie critics, too, if it comes to that. LOL

I really want to read the Lincoln book! I'm a vampire junkie and the thought of Lincoln as a "Buffy" just cracks me up!

message 464: by Karen B. (new)

Karen B. (raggedy11) | 232 comments Melodie, go to Amazon and check out the book trailer. I watched that trailer over and over because it was so entertaining to me.

Weeks? I haven't ..."

I beat you - I haven't won anything since I first joined GR a year and a half ago or so.

message 467: by Karen B. (new)

Karen B. (raggedy11) | 232 comments I know one reason I haven't won anything recently ... there haven't been as many books available! I always go over the next day's giveaways to see if there was something I missed and the few I was interested in are ones where there is only one copy and a lot of people requesting it. But that's okay, I have so many to read right now anyway.

message 468: by Karen M (new)

Karen M | 1436 comments I've been winning but none of the books has arrived yet so I'm reading two of my own books without a sense of 'must read now'. LOL It's actually kind of nice not to have a book to hurry up and read and review. Watch, Monday I'll get them all! LOL

message 469: by Katherine (last edited Jul 11, 2011 09:41AM) (new)

Katherine That is true for me, too, Karen M. I've won 7 books in recent weeks plus one in May and they haven't arrived. I did receive one yesterday and I emailed the May publisher--they are in Canada and there has been a postal strike, which explains the delay. Have no idea what is going on with the others though. I also won a book in May from Library Thing--by the author--emailed him and got no reply. Strange.

Well--Guess what? FOUR of the books showed up in today's mail including the Canadian one. I have a lot of reading to do!!

message 470: by Karen B. (new)

Karen B. (raggedy11) | 232 comments I won today! And this isn't one I even remember entering. (Boy talk about Old Timer's Disease). I just finished The Door to Canellin and can't recommend it it enough. It's a fun adventure. Sometimes when you win or receive a free book, it can be a real dud and a pain to read and review but Door to Canellin was not.

Anyway the book I won:

Devil's Ticket The Devil's Tickets A Vengeful Wife, a Fatal Hand, and a New American Age by Gary M. Pomerantz

message 471: by Karen B. (new)

Karen B. (raggedy11) | 232 comments Beings as this is a group that seems to like to win books, I am going to pass on something I found yesterday for those who have Kindles. On the Kindle Boards at Amazon, there is a new discussion group that is really taking off ... Random Acts of Kindness. It's a wonderful group and it amazes me that there are so many generous people in the group.

message 472: by Karen M (new)

Karen M | 1436 comments Okay, so six books did not turn up at my house today but I did get one Jersey Law: A Novel. Takes place in Camden.

message 473: by Karen B. (new)

Karen B. (raggedy11) | 232 comments Oh Karen M please let me know how it is!

message 474: by Katherine (new)

Katherine Read one chapter in each of the new books--so far they all sound interesting and different. Looking forward to them all. Also have decided on a plan of attack for that 700+ page selected letters of O'Keeffe=Steiglitz letters. Grew up on snail mail so will read them as though I just wrote and wait a couple of days to read the response. But I will immediately readm " my " response. May take me awhile but I think I will enjoy it more bite by bite rather than huge meals in one sitting.

message 475: by Karen M (new)

Karen M | 1436 comments Karen B wrote: "Oh Karen M please let me know how it is!"

I will as soon as I read it. That's your area of Jersey isn't it? I'm Bergen County, 10 minutes from Giant Stadium.

Sometimes it's like having a plan of attack. When I'm reading a longer book I try to read two to one. For every chapter in the shorter book I have to read two in the longer book. It's a sort of game.

Today I won The Insider.

message 477: by Karen B. (new)

Karen B. (raggedy11) | 232 comments Congrats Katherine. I hope you are being patient with me. I really literally do not have the $$ to mail the package with One Dog Night. But I will. Disability check is delayed for some reason *sigh*

Congrats on your first win, Karen!

message 479: by Katherine (new)

Katherine Wow! @ Karen M--I loved the Insider--won it in an earlier giveaway.

@ Karn B--not to worry--as you can see, my reading cup runneth over and I just won yet another

The Burning The Burning by Jane Casey

@Karen--Let us know how The Real Macaw is when you finish--I had thrown my hat in for that one, too! LOL

message 480: by Karen B. (new)

Karen B. (raggedy11) | 232 comments Oh Karen I hope you like it. I have read only good things about Donna Andrews. And Katherine, another win? That's terrific.

message 481: by Melodie (new)

Melodie (melodieco) | 5280 comments I was in for 7 drawings that ended in the past 2 days and didn't win any. Really was hoping to win a copy of Sharyn McCrumb's THE BALLAD OF TOM DOOLEY. I love her Appalachian ballad books.

message 482: by Karen B. (new)

Karen B. (raggedy11) | 232 comments I think it may be up again soon.

Katherine: Quit winning all the books I want, darn it! (Yup, entered for The Burning but did not win.) ;)

Melodie: Same here, I've been entered for dozens over the last couple weeks, and haven't won a thing.

OOOO, that's the one I wanted. Congratulations. Have you read this author before? If not you're in for a treat. I've read all of her books in this series and love her sense of humor and Meg's crazy family.

Karen M | 1436 comments Karen B wrote: "Oh Karen M please let me know how it is!"

I'm up to page 60 in Jersey Law and I have to say I am enjoying it so much! It's a bit stereotypical Jersey characters but it's all in good fun. Language gets a bit graphic so if you don't like that kind of talk then this is not the book for you. I can see Stephanie Plum crossing paths with these two lawyers! LOL

message 486: by Karen M (new)

Karen M | 1436 comments Katherine wrote: "Wow! @ Karen M--I loved the Insider--won it in an earlier giveaway.

Oh good, it's so much easier to read and review a good book. I've only had a couple so far that were not really my thing but I still managed to find something positive to write.

message 487: by Ellen (new)

Ellen (elliearcher) Yay-I just won The Leftovers by Tom Perrotta, an excellent author. Can't wait to read.

message 488: by Ellen (new)

Ellen (elliearcher) I'm on a hot streak-I just received word last week that I won Tom Perrotta's The Leftovers and today I got word that I won The Lord of the Hallows: Christian Symbolism and Themes in J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter (I think that's the title).

I really wanted to read that one too-especially as tomorrow I'm going to see the last (*sob*) Harry Potter movie. I've been watching all the other Potter movies all week to get ready!

Karen M | 1436 comments Today I won The Insider The Insider by Reece Hirsch

So happy I received Wednesday Rin Tin Tin The Life and the Legend by Susan Orlean Rin Tin Tin: The Life and the Legend. Have to finish Jersey Law: A Novel so I can read about Rinty. Just reading the back cover made me mist over. Such a softy when it comes to dogs.

Katherine Holy Moley--won another!!!! Sea Change by Darlene Marshall--for some reason the cover search can't find it.

Also Rin Tin Tin arrived yesterday. And I finished and reviewed Capone

Katherine Wow--I'm so excited to see that a giveaway I won and reviewed awhile back is number 9 on the best seller list of non-fiction. Lost in Shangri-La was terrific and I guess others are liking it, too! What fun to have read it first. LOL Lost in Shangri-La A True Story of Survival, Adventure, and the Most Incredible Rescue Mission of World War II by Mitchell Zuckoff
