Miki, just so you know, the author of the book you won, Dan, is a member of our group here. Congrats on your win. I'm sure he'd love to hear what you think of it after you're done reading it.

message 54: by Kelley (new)

Kelley (booknerd69) Miki, I just signed up to get that book! He must have more to give away or something. Let me know how it is, and hopefully I'll get one too :)

Yolanda | 9 comments I just started signing up for these also and have won 2 books in 2 weeks! I won The Art Detective Fakes, Frauds, and Finds and the Search for Lost Treasures by Philip Mould and also Lady of the Butterflies by Fiona Mountain I'm really looking forward to getting them.

Caroline | 661 comments Thanks to this list, I finally went to explore the giveaways and signed up for two yesterday. It doesn't seem that there were a whole lot of books I wanted on that list but at least I thought I'd try a few. (Seems like a lot of children's books)

message 58: by Diane ~Firefly~ (new)

Diane ~Firefly~ | 325 comments Congrats Yolanda!

Caroline - the type of books is always changing, so if you check in a few weeks there might not be any childrens books

message 59: by Tammy (new)

Tammy I posted a few days ago that I had won a goodreads giveaway and I received it in the mail today! I was afraid after a few other posts that I had read that I may not get it, but it's here and I'll be starting on it soon.

BTW, the book I won is called "The Lovers" by Vendela Vida which is a new author for me! The cover says it's riveting, suspenseful with an unpredictable ending ....... we'll see. I'll post a review after I've read it.

message 60: by [deleted user] (new)

Thanks for the review Miki! I really enjoy doing giveaways. I'm running another giveaway contest for "The Mine" right now. But I still haven't figured out how to post the image of the cover in a comment thread, i.e. if I'm reviewing another book. Can one of you tell me how?

Thanks!
dan

Dan, on the upper right of the comment box, is add book/author. A popup box opens up and you can type in the book/author. One tab for book, one for author. On the bottom of the book tab you can check the circle for two options, title which is the default, or you can click on "cover" which puts the cover in, like this below.

The Mine by Daniel R. Cobb

*Bounces in doing the happy dance*

I received notice this morning that I (finally) won another book, Tempted by a Warrior by Amanda Scott. It's an historical romance originally published in 2010, with the paperback being released in July, which is what I won.

And now of course we wonder - since we are always specualting as to what helps one win FirstReads books - did my recent Johanna Lindsey reading spree aid in the winning of another historical romance?

message 64: by [deleted user] (new)

:-) Heather, I suspect that it is entirely random. Unless of course, you read my book, "The Mine". Then, holy smokes, the sun comes out, the birds tweet, you win the lottery and every single giveaway you enter!
Or maybe not. :-)

Debbie (debbie1can) | 1 comments I too received notice this morning that I won the book, Tempted by a Warrior by Amanda Scott.

Me too, Melodie. I won several when I first started entering and I always post a review but I haven't won any for a long, long time. I keep hoping.

Daphne, The Kitchen House is a wonderful book, I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. The only thing wrong with it--it ended too soon, I would have liked to have read more.

Congratulations, Donna! Let us know how the Tom Sawyer mashup is. Sounds interesting.

I just finished [book:The Kitchen House
, which I won a few weeks ago. What a gift that book was. I absolutely loved it and was so wrapped up in the great characters and the story. It may be my favorite read of 2010.

I tried to win The Kitchen House, but didn't :( So, I just put it on reserve at my library and I am next. Can't wait to read it after seeing your review.

Kelley - I hope you enjoy it. It reads like a saga (think Gone with the Wind) but clocks in at a mere 365 pages. Those characters will be staying with me for a long time.

The last book I won on GR was Last Train from Cuernavaca. This is an excellent read if you haven't tried it. Highly recommended.

Body Work (V.I. Warshawski Novel) by Sara Paretsky is a GREAT read, Kaye! I got an ARC of it and just finished it earlier this week. I love this series. It makes me think.

Actually the series is not in Boston it is in Chicago. I have read all her bookks and am a huge fun (and I live in chicago). I really wanted to win this book -- hopefully I still have a chance. :) I will buy it if I don't win it, as I have bought all of her other books, including the ones outside of this series.

I have won three books from GR First Reads and three from librarything.com's comparable program.

From GR:

House of Fallen Trees by Gina Ranalli it is a Horror/Ghost story and I loved it.

I won another one that I strongly disliked, couldn't get past 15 pages, but since I got it free I don't want to trash it -- and I won't post the book.

The Boys from Little Mexico A Season Chasing the American Dream by Steve Wilson I am still waiting on this one, it looks great!

From librarything:

Again by Diana Murdock I just won it and need to read it.

Moonstone by Marilee Brothers -- I didn't request this but still one it, but have no desire to read it.

Twice Dead (Haven, #2) by Kalayna Price -- I did not care for th is.

Nancy Jarvis (screalwriter) | 153 comments I just finished a giveaway for my new book, Buying Murder. I offered two books and had 884 applicants. I have no idea how ŷ decides who wins. I looked at the reading list for the winners: one seems to like cozies, the other winner didn't have any mysteries listed. I just hope they enjoy the book.
