Yay Melodie! Congrats!

message 153: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 2446 comments I was wondering why I haven't won anything in over a year. I never reviewed one of my winning books and it looks like from some of your comments here this impacts your ability to win another one. Hmmmmm....

message 154: by Ellen (new)

Ellen (elliearcher) congratulations Melodie!

I think reviewing is the key. I went back and looked up the other book I won and put something on there and 2 days later I won the book I wanted!

Shay | 408 comments I recently won The Bird Sisters and A Race to Splendor: A tale of rivalry, redemption, and the rebuilding of a devastated city.

I've reviewed all of the books I've won in giveaways.

Ellen (elliearcher) Regina wrote: "Ellie what did you win at LT?"

I won Netsuke by Rikki Ducornet.

I'm a big fan of Ducornet: this is the first title I've won by an established author.

Hey Karen - Stop winning all the books! (Congrats!)

Ellie and Shay - Congrats on your recent wins! This group seems to be having quite a bit of luck lately. : )

For those worrying about the prospect of writing a review on books you've won, I've found that you don't need to write a full-fledge review; just a few sentences to say whether you enjoyed the book, or what you did/didn't like about it seems to be enough.

It looks interesting, enjoy!

message 162: by Janet (new)

Janet (cedargma) I have just won my third Giveaway and can't wait to get it. The first book I won was not a Cozy Mystery but my second one was Fruit of All Evil by Paige Shelton and I can't wait to read another of her books. The book I just won is a novel French Lessons. Hopefully I will enjoy it as much as my first two. I do not usually write a comment on my reads but did on my first-reads as well as listing them on a seperate bookshelf so my friends can see what I have won. Heather is correct, you do not need to do more then a few sentences for your review.

message 163: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I just received notice that I won a goodreads first reads 22 Britannia Road by Amanda Hodgkinson

message 164: by Katherine (new)

Katherine Good for you,Regina! I read the synopsis--looks interesting.

message 165: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I usually win books from GR and LT that I am interested, but might not pick up, so I like that it is expanding my scope.

Have you all heard of netgalley? It is a vehicle for publishers to get their books to readers who blog or post online before release date. All the books are in eformat, you absolutely cannot miss the date the publishers want you to post the review and your profile needs to describe how you will publish the review: I have been getting some good books through there lately -- i don't have a blog, I only post reviews here, Amazon, and on librarything.

message 166: by Ellen (new)

Ellen (elliearcher) Yay! I just won a GR first read, Spellcast by Barbara Ashford by Barbara Ashford. I'm very excited since I hardly ever win GR (more often LT). This was one that looked interesting but might not read if I didn't win it. It's a great way to expand my reading experiences.:D

message 167: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) congrats Ellie and Janet! Spellcast does look interesting.

message 171: by Ellen (new)

Ellen (elliearcher) By the time you've finished reviewing all your wins, I'm sure you'll be getting lots more! :D

message 172: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (mgauffant) | 63 comments I've only won one, The 19th Wife by David Ebershoff. This was before the movie on Lifetime.

message 173: by Katherine (new)

Katherine Yes, they spun the wheel again, Karen--my streak appears to be at an end as well!

message 175: by Diana (new)

Diana I usually try to write a review for everything I read and I've won 3 times. My most recent win was Daughters of Rome (just started it today, and I'm liking it so far). Besides that I've gotten Tempestuous and Broadway Vampire. It's kind of funny though because each one was separated by two months, guess I'll have to wait until next month for another win.

message 176: by Karen M (new)

Karen M | 1436 comments Sorry for the double posting. Not sure how I did that.

message 177: by Katherine (new)

Katherine I don't think you did double post Karen--I looked at my posts and I had a triple post but I know I only hit the button once. I just deleted two of them.

message 178: by Katherine (new)

Katherine BTW, in my other group--Classics I should have read--Amy has hit three times this week! So maybe the wheel is stuck on A and in another group! LOL

You might be on to something! LOL

message 180: by Katherine (new)

Katherine Well, then again, Maybe not--I just won another giveaway this morning!!! Haven't received any of the three I've won in the past few weeks though--and am dying to get started. This one is a mystery about African and Chinese trying to steal research secrets from out universities. A married couple -- a pair of sleuths are trying to prevent it. Mr and Mrs. North? or Robert Wagner and Stephanie Powers? Sounds interesting.

message 181: by Karen M (new)

Karen M | 1436 comments Okay Katherine, I guess the fates have taken a liking to both of us, or GoodReads' computer is taking sides but I also won another book today! Tolstoy and the Purple Chair: My Year of Magical Reading

message 182: by Katherine (new)

Katherine This is so unbelieveable--but I haven't received any in the mail yet--so maybe we win but the mailing doesn't happen? LOL

message 183: by Regina (new)

My experience is that most books take 2-3 weeks, and you never know whether they are going to come mail, UPS or FedEx. Personally, I hate it when they come FedEx, as they never leave notice packages are in the office, and then they sit down there until I happen to stop in for something else.

message 185: by Martha (new)

Martha (marthas48) | 161 comments I've been blessed to win several - 35 books from September through February. All have come except for 2. I'm still trying to read them all. The last one I won was on March 1 so my winning streak seems to be over ... probably because I haven't read & reviewed them all. I have no idea why I won so many. What were they thinking?!?! LOL

message 186: by Katherine (new)

Katherine My gosh, Martha--you surely have Karen and me beat but even so we are hitting an unforseen jackpot. I cannot wait to read my winnings!

message 187: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 2446 comments Ugh! I am still winless and I enter a ton of them.

message 188: by Sherry (new)

Sherry | 137 comments I won one book a couple of months ago, read it and wrote a review (a good one, because I actually liked the book) but haven't won anything else since. I wonder why some people seem to win so many books, and others not at all...

message 189: by Karen B. (new)

Karen B. (raggedy11) | 232 comments I guess I have a little of the Irish luck blood in me. About 4 weeks ago I won Alison Pace's A Pug's Tale. Last week I won three in one day:

Killed at the Whim of a Hat by Collin Cotterill

One Dog Night by David Rosenfelt (book cover not available

Among the Missing by Morag Joss
Killed at the Whim of a Hat by Colin Cotterill Among the Missing A Novel by Morag Joss

LOL...no you have the luck of the "K"'s. Katherine and I have both been winning a lot of books and you are the third "K". Maybe Katherine is right and the GoodReads computer is stuck on "K"!!

message 191: by Karen B. (new)

I finished the first of my two recent wins over the weekend, A Courtesan's Guide to Getting Your Man, and absolutely loved it. There were times it was impossible to put down, especially the last 50 or 75 pages. Now to decide what to read next, while I wait for the second book to arrive. *g*

message 193: by Martha (new)

Martha (marthas48) | 161 comments Wow!! Three in a day!! That's awesome!! I never did that & couldn't anymore b/c my rule now is I only enter one a day. Once I've read all of them I'll go back to entering all that I want to. I'm happy for those of you that are winning ... and for those that aren't ... don't give up .. keep entering the contests. I know one thing that is a deciding factor is activity on GR. Make sure you log in at least daily.

The book gods smiled upon me again today, too. Not a GoodReads win, but I did receive notice that I won a historical romance off a blog I frequent, Before the Scandal by Suzanne Enoch. Yay! :)
