Welcome to the group Renee! I hope you will share some of your favorite covers with us here! I'm a big fan of the good old BR cover art as well... oh who am I kidding? I even love the 'bad' ones! :) Landscapes, flowers and random isolated objects on a plain background just don't do it for me... who needs that? Boring! LOL

Sandi, I second paperbackswap, if you haven't checked it out yet. Sometimes the condition can vary (there's no guarantee, despite the guidelines), but there are usually copies of every old bodice ripper title imaginable.
Another place to look is ebay. Sometimes people sell a lot of only older vintage romances. I've picked up quite a few (er, way too many!) doing that.

wow! thank-you ladies for the welcome & the great tips!I really want to replace some of these treasures.I live in canada and alot of sellers on ebay wont ship to here..kinda pricey I guess? I also notice some sellers ask such a $$$$ for a hard to find...and to think it says $2.50 on the book I have!! who would have thought? :)

I read my first bodice ripper when I was probably 12 or 13 (and that was years and years ago =D). I know that I started out with teen romances then graduated into the bodice rippers of whom were Rosemary Rogers, Laurie McBain, Rebecca Brandewyne, and Kathleen Woodiwiss. I still consider these authors as some of my favorite authors, ...Boy were there books filled with romance and adventure!!
I'm a huge fan of Judith MacNaught, Lindsey,Garwood, Quinn, and a few other ladies.
I've also been hooked on paranormal romances, especially J.R. Ward, and highlander romances like ones by Monica McCarthy.
I'm also hook on covers!! Sexy men especially Paul Marron or artistic covers...like paintings...
Favorite romance couple is Alaina and Cole in Ashes in the Wind by Kathleen Woodiwiss.
I read all the time. According to my boyfriend, besides sleeping, it is what I do best. Hahaha.
Anyway, I wanted to join cause I love romances plus the name "bodice rippers" just piqued my interest since I started with the very authors who the term was coined for.
Hi Melita! I'm from Vermont and I never knew how one could get so hot until I spent a college year in southern Indiana. :P

LOL!

Yes, definitely! So many! I always read reviews from Amazon to find out other romances to read then I found this site and this has been a godsend for someone who likes to read all the time...although my boyfriend thinks I'm too obsessed and I should do something more PRODUCTIVE with my life than read. I'm a high school English teacher ( English 11 and English 12...yes I have the big children) thus I have the summer off and my productivity has only been on the amount of books I'm reading.
I'm really excited about this group because I've read some negative reviews on the original "bodice ripper" writers and I felt they were doing a disservice to these writers...without them where would romances be now? Plus I never perceive these heroines as complete victims for they sooner or later become formidable females...

Melita? Welcome I love Alaine and Cole too. one of my Fav books read 3 x thinking of it again?

Exactly! That's what I say! Welcome to the group Melita! I can tell you will be a great addition! :)

Haven't read and bodice rippers lately because I keep doing games and challenges on PBS where I haven't been able to use them. But I'm going to be sure to read some over the summer. I have stacks and stacks of them. They were my obsession for awhile.

LOL I'm exactly like this too. When I got my license, I had to learn the local area from scratch since I'd always had my nose in a book as a passenger. :D

Favorite romance couple: Either Wulfgar & Aislinn from The Wolf and The Dove or Alaric & Freya from Sea Jewel.
Why did you decide to join this group?: I've loved bodice rippers for 35+ years and it's wonderful to talk with people who appreciate them.

Great Group! I love a good BR. Forgot until recently just how much I enjoyed them in the 70's and 80's. I wish more were available to read on Kindle. Hopefully, more will become available.
Welcome to the group Amanda, Lorraine and Janice!!! Glad to have you all! I have been out of town for the last week so please forgive my late welcome :)
Amanda and Janice, you might want to check out the list of BR's I have found so far available for Kindle here!

Birthday: March 1986
Dinner last night: sad to say it was Mac n Cheese!
Radio Station in my car: Country or Rock
Fav Childhood memory: going up to my Grandparents cabin every summer for a few weeks
When/Where to read: anywhere and everywhere - but mainly on the couch or the porch (when it's not too hot)
First romance novel: The Runaway Bride. At 13, I had no idea it was a romance book since it was a hardcover and the cover was missing. Quite a surprise when the romance hit! But I was hooked!
Favorite romance couple: all of the Julie Garwood historical romance couples, I love Fiona and Ewan from Highland Warrior and Gillyanne and Connor from Highland Bride. And soooo many more!
Why did I join? I am always looking for more books to read (I read a lot and very fast), and I thought this sounded fun!

Birthday: Jan 11th
What did you have for dinner last night?: spaghetti every Sunday, LOL
What CD/radio station(type of music) is in your car right now?: 90's rock/grunge
Favorite childhood memory (briefly): Christmas at my grandmothers house
When/where do you most like to read?: in bed
First romance novel read (that you can remember): this will sound funny, and this isn't a true romance novel, but it was We the Living by Ayn Rand when I was 12 or 13. It has a lot of heavier content but I think Kira and Leo's very sexy and slightly abusive (dare I say that word) relationship influenced my developing romantic fantasies in a big way.
Favorite romance couple: It's a tie between Samuel and Leda in Kinsale's
The Shadow and the Star and Christian and Maddy in Kinsale's Flowers from the Storm
Why did you decide to join this group?: It is just really great to be in a group where you don't have to apologize for the smutty, non-politically correct fiction you perv to. I know, being a writer, that it's hard to even publish a bodice ripper anymore without being torn to shreds by readers and reviewers. It's sad, because it's really a guilty pleasure of mine.

Favorite childhood memory (briefly): I love Halloween, and the fall, so pretty much anytime in the fall when I live in New Hampshire.
When/where do you most like to read?: I'm really big on creating a moment to read in, so I'll put on nice candles, incense, and low music and cuddle in my big chair with a drink. Either that or I always read when I'm having dinner. It's something my entire family does actually. Family dinners when I grew up were dead silence, with each of us with something to read.
First romance novel read (that you can remember): Eloisa James' "Pleasure for Pleasure"
Favorite romance couple: I'm usually in love with the couple of my current book.
Why did you decide to join this group?: A friend invited me, and I've always wanted people to talk to about the books that I read.
