Introduce Yourself

That would be The Silver Devil by Teresa Denys. She only wrote 2 books but they were some of the best books I've ever read. The descriptions of the people and places are amazing.
I haven't read Silver Devil yet, but I have read The Flesh and the Devil and yes, one of the best books I've ever read. She's got a way with description and characters.

Thanks Jennefer! It looks like a lot of fun! I've been looking for a place like this for months. :)

Favorite Childhood Memory - playing in the pond at my parent's house
Favourite place to read - ANYWHERE!
First Romance Novel (that I can remember) - A Loving Scoundrel by Johanna Lindsey
Favourite Romance couple - right now I would say.... Whitney and the Duke of Westmoreland from Whitney, My Love by Judith McNaught
Why did I join this group? - I recently re-discovered my love for these kinds of books and decided to try and find some good recs from this group!
Welcome to the group Jessica! I agree about Whitney, My Love, its up there among my favorites :)

What CD/radio station(type of music) is in your car right now?: Buffy (The Musical)
Favorite childhood memory (briefly): Staring at the ocean for the first time while holding my mom's hand. Then running screaming away as the first wave hit. :-)
When/where do you most like to read?: Anytime, anywhere. I do a lot of my reading while walking or on the Muni...
First romance novel read (that you can remember): Either Sweet Savage Love or The Flame and the Flower. Unless gothics count and then we go into Mary Stewart or Victoria Holt territory...
Favorite romance couple: I dinna have an answer for this at this time... Definitely NOT Ginny and Steve 'cause they irritate me with all their squabbling...
Why did you decide to join this group?: Because I love Karla and Jeanine's blog Get Your Bodices Ripped Here, because I got verbally shredded on Dear Author for using the term 'bodice ripper', and because I have no patience with people who judge other people on what they enjoy reading. Without the classic bodice rippers and old romance/gothics, we wouldn't have a foundation for the modern romances. SO there, nyah, judgmental people! :-)

Birthday: October 15 1990
What did you have for dinner last night?: Steak and a salad
What CD/radio station(type of music) is in your car right now?: I love to listen to all types of rock music, some jazz, and a bit of the mainstream stuff as well. But the last CD I listened to was Aphrodite by Kylie Minogue

When/where do you most like to read?: I love to read anytime I have free, anywhere I may be. It's my way to relax, but usually I read a bit before going to bed.
First romance novel read (that you can remember): My very first romance novel was The Viscount Who Loved Me by Julia Quinn. It definitely one of my all time favorites.
Favorite romance couple: This is a tricky one, because there have been so many great couples, but I really love Evie and Sebastian from Lisa Kleypas's Devil in Winter.
Why did you decide to join this group?: Like I said, I was really excited to see a book dedicated to bodice rippers. I love romance, always a feel good read, but some of the books that come out nowadays seem almost the same. So I have slowly been discovering these books, and despite how they get ripped apart, I really like them. I'm hoping I can get some great recommendations here to read and discuss!

Thank you! Now I just need more time to hang out and make mischief!

Shanna (Mom and I read it together and giggled and blushed a lot)
Favorite romance couple:
Maybe The Phantom and Christine? (Dunno if that classifies as a romance, though.)
Why did you decide to join this group?
I have enjoyed a number of books that probably classify as BR's, and I guess I'm supporting the group because I don't like the PCer's that try to make you feel wrong for liking them, and pressure publishers to shy away from them. This is fantasy, folks! We ALL read stuff in books that we wouldn't want to live out in real life, and we ALL have fantasies that we wouldn't play out in fact. Books are a safe place to explore and play with these things. If it's not your thing, go play in another playground and live and let live.

Birthday: 12/04/77

LOL
When/where do you most like to read?:Mostely where ever or when ever I can- as I don't have a lot of free time, but my favorite place to read is at home in bed.
First romance novel read (that you can remember): Hmmm, I think it was Danielle Steel Message From Nam.
Favorite romance couple: There are so many, but I don't think you can beat the classics- Pride and Prejudice, and Jane Ayere. Not a lot of sex/seduction, but that isn't always necessary, but it is usually a bonus! :)
Why did you decide to join this group?: I am so excited to find a group who shares my love of, what I call, "trashy romance novels"! I am such a sucker for historical romance novels with great sex scenes. They are definitely my guilty pleasure.

When/where do you most like to read?: My bed, anytime but especially night.
First romance novel read (that you can remember): I remember two very specifically. Nightfall by Anne Stuart and Highland Hawk by Lois Greiman. Both were read while I was in the 6th grade so based on that and the fact that HH was new, I must have been 10 years old. I think of my 12 yr-old niece reading these specific books and want to see her locked in a convent lol.
Favorite romance couple: At first I thought "no way can I choose". Then I looked back at my favorites and the winner was clear: Gillian of Warewick and Christopher of Blackmour in This Is All I Ask by Lynn Kurland.
Why did you decide to join this group?: Because I figured it'd be nice to know that there really are people who enjoy the same books I do. I'm tired of going on Amazon and seeing some of my favorite books being torn apart by people horrified at hero "rape".

Yes it is. Hero rape is the least of my concerns about bodice rippers. :)

I'm looking for a book that I read maybe 20 years ago...I can't for the life of me remember the title or author, but just the story...maybe someone else has read it?? I loaned the book out & never got it back :(
The story is during the Renaissance (I think), just remember that the herione of the story's dad has several gambling debts and she has to become a spy or they will be tossed into prison. She ends up spying and something happens that causes her to run off and she ends up in a small village...there she meets and falls in love w/the local miller. Their romance blossoms, however, her past comes back to haunt her and it turns out that the miller is acutally a duke (or something), and the one she was sent to spy on (but she didn't know)...he finds out & well, it's the typical romance from there..I really want to re-read this one...can anyone help me out?? Please and thank you!!!
Welcome, Camilla! I've heard lots about Island Flame. Good AND bad, and of course the bad makes me want to read it more. ;)
