I would like to start working on adding some great BR's to our group bookshelf. My thought is to have shelves for common BR themes so that when you are in the mood for a certain type of BR you can "shop" on our shelves! For example we could have a shelf for no cheating, no forced seduction, medieval, harem, marriage of convenience etc... but I need some help to get this started!!! What "theme" would you like to have listed on our bookshelves and what are a few examples of that theme (need a book to put on the shelf in order to create that shelf). We will also have a shelf for our past monthly group reads obviously.

Any other ideas on how to use our group bookshelf???

A theme/characteristic I can think of that might influence what someone wants to read is "Character Death."

For that shelf, I would suggest Skye O'Malley and All the Sweet Tomorrows.

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) maybe a revenge shelf? hero or heroine wants revenge on the other or is related to enemy family/clan.

message 4: by Love love (new)

Love love | 120 comments I love this idea! I just started to read br so I don't have too many to suggest. I do second the vote for Devil's Embrace by Catherine Coulter. I would also add While Passion Sleeps by Shirlee Busbee. As to the theme, I also love a good kidnapping. There could be Medievlal, Pirate, Indian, Regency, Scorned Lover. I don't know but I love em all 8)

By "Character Death" do you mean that in those books one of the main characters die? Am I understanding that right?

Yes. I'd give examples, but then they'd be spoilers. :D

Gottcha. Ok I will add that as a shelf.

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) I second the 'no cheating,' but also 'no multiple partners.'

I also like

Marriage of convenience
Sheikh/Harem
The different time periods: Elizabethan, Victorian, Antebellum, etc.
Kidnapped/Captive

'Hero violent to heroine' is another good one

Ok! This is a good start! So far for shelves I have:
kidnapping/abduction
main character dies
marriage of convenience
medieval
no cheating
no forced seduction
5 stars
pirate
regency
revenge
no multiple partners
elizabethan
victorian
antebellum
gregorian
hero violent to heroine

I added the books that have been mentioned here (I think I got them all) and some from our other threads. I have set the group bookshelf so that any of our group members can add books so I invite all of you to add some of your favorites here!

Any other ideas for shelves that should be added??? Have a favorite theme you would like to see listed? Other ideas of how to use the group bookshelf?

Hi Jennefer
Your idea here is great. Listing common themes on BR will really make it easy to sift through books while looking for a particular something.

In Pamela's post, she suggested Revenge as a theme. I just finished The Wildest Heart by Rosemary Rogers, and Revenge theme will fit this book perfect. Or, regarding this book, how about the theme - Lust Gone Mad Soap Opera?

OK, am I dense? (Don't answer that.) I followed the link, but can't find out how to add books. In the upper left corner, it says only moderators can add books?

LOL No I think I am the one that is dense! I think I fixed it now... hopefully :) Let me know.

Gigi | 31 comments Ok, I have no idea which category to put Until You in. There wasn't a marriage of convenience. However, there was an engagement of convenience, the heroine had amnesia...hmm...im torn!

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) Put it under amnesia, Gigi.

Jeanine wrote: "Hmmm where would Unconquered go? She is sold into slavery not really a harem?"

I think that should be a new shelf, because looking at the backs of many of the books I have, that "sold into slavery" thing seems to pop up a lot

Jeanine wrote: "Which I like! I know, I'm a sick-o. :)"

That makes 2 of us. I'm unshockable. Except, you know, naked Hasselhoff molesting innocent puppies.

message 17: by Gigi (new)

Gigi | 31 comments Ok, so I've added:

- Series (for those who may or may not want to become addicted to a series)
- Amnesia
- Engagement of convenience.

LOL You are too funny Karla :)

I think I am unshockable too (well I might be shocked but I can get over it pretty quick and enjoy some pretty messed up stuff in my fiction)! I like the slavery theme :)

message 19: by Love love (new)

Love love | 120 comments I love the bookshelf :) I just added it to my favorites and I can just feel my tbr growing out of control. lol

Ha ha...well, it appears as though I'm unshockable as well when it comes to my fiction. So, add me to that list as well.

Gigi wrote: "So, you both are so not alone."

Hurrah! It's nice to say, "I love a good sold into slavery story" and not get looked at like you're a freak. :P In an office packed full of chicklit readers, I keep my tastes on the very down low.

Sharon wrote: "how about the theme - Lust Gone Mad Soap Opera? "

I like that idea. I added a "lust gone mad" shelf. :)

Our shelves are looking good everybody! Keep them coming!!!

message 23: by [deleted user] (new)

I just added a "same sex content" shelf, since I've read several books so far with guy on guy or girl on girl (either referred to or explicit).

message 24: by LaTrica (new)

LaTrica I like books with more than a sprinkling of humor so how about comedy or humorous as a shelf?

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) Good idea, Jeanine.

message 26: by Love love (new)

Love love | 120 comments I'm not sure on how to add books to the bookshelf but someone should add 'Passion's Slave' by Kay McMahon to the rape shelf. The main female charcter is also and indentured servent so it could go on the sold into slavery shelf too.

message 27: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (creeker) | 133 comments Gabriels Bride by Samantha James
Lady Gallant by Suzanne Robinson

message 28: by Devon (new)

Devon Verno (daverno) | 2 comments how about a shelf for reunions? Those are my favorite. Where after years upon years of being separated because of war or perhaps one thinks the other is dead, they are reunited. Voyager from Gabaldons Outlander series is my all time favorite "reunion" book.

message 29: by [deleted user] (new)

Gabaldon isn't a bodice ripper, though. Though there are probably similar reunions in BRs.

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) Creeker, those are two of my faves!

message 31: by Gigi (last edited Apr 04, 2010 05:29AM) (new)

Gigi | 31 comments Added another shelf.

tortured main character

The bookshelf is looking pretty nice! I added a Kindle shelf as well. Let's keep it growing, when you read a BR be sure to add it to our group bookshelf here.

message 33: by [deleted user] (new)

I added a "misleading cover" shelf, thinking that Flowers of Fire qualified and any other book might where you read it and think, "Where's the romance? Where's the bodice ripping?"

message 34: by Tonya (new)

Tonya (_tonya_) | 0 comments Great idea Karla!!

message 35: by Melanie (last edited May 17, 2010 08:36AM) (new)

Melanie (melaina) | 3 comments would The Velvet Promise: Saga Montgomery be considered a BR? What about The Black Lyon or the Angelique saga (the last one, at least in the first 6 or 7 books has rape, sold into slavery, reunions, harem,.. a whole bunch of BR themes!)? Sorry, I'm not quite sure if and where to shelf them (if they aren't already shelved :-p): I don't even know if they'd be considered BRs!! :-)

message 36: by [deleted user] (new)

I've added a bunch more to the Group Bookshelf by looking at what I have on my shelves. Of course they're all subject to change once I or another of us reads them and discovers if the cover is false advertising! :P

message 37: by KatS (new)

KatS | 5 comments I don't know if this is the right place to post this but it seems like the best fit. Please let me know if I am wrong in that.

I need help finding a book and am hoping that this group can help me. I read it a long time ago and want to reread it and it is driving me crazy that I cannot remember what the title is.

Here are the things that I remember about the book:

It is historical. The hero is jealous and possessive. He is a manwhore before meeting the heroine. The hero sees her and thinks that the heroine is a prostitute. He has her taken to his room or someone sees her and thinks that he would like her. The hero gets drunk and forced seduction/rape occurs. She of course is not a lady of the evening but rather a virgin. He kidnaps her and takes her on his ship. Hot sexy times commence. She is sexually attracted to him and wants him but is understandably livid and tries to escape numerous times. Finally she succeeds. There is a separation whereas both are celibate. She starts a restaurant with another woman, possibly a salon girl/prostitute. Hero looses it and tries to find her. He is obsessed with finding her. After looking a long time the hero finds her. He grovels and will do anything to have her in his life. She might of had his child, I cannot remember. She eventually forgives him. The admit that they love each other HEA .

Any feedback is appreciated.

Thanks Kat

Hi Kat,

You can copy/paste your post into a new topic on this discussion board.

I don't know what book that could be. So many elements are common tropes! The restaurant bit is a standout detail, though. Hopefully it will ring a bell to someone.
