Has anyone else read this book. I really liked it. It divided the books into catagories as I slowly go through it I have discovered a number of new authors that I have become addicted to.

it really helped me branch out. I was really dedicated to reading all the books they list but I got sidetracked but I am going to start again.

Well I think it is good to get distracted from reading lists. Ohterwise you miss out on so many other books.

I do 1 of two things: Divided them up into catagories and decide what I am in the mood to read or have my niece do pick one out for me

message 5: by Amanda (new)

Amanda | 4 comments I haven't read this book either. It's good to know you recommend it!

message 6: by Sherry (new)

Sherry I hadn't even heard of it but I will certainly check it out.

I think I am going to change the way I am listing the books. I feel like there is too much going on and it is giving me a headache. ;) So I thought I would have one posting in each folder listing all the books in that section. Then as we post reviews of the book we can do that in the same folder the list is in. Does that make sense???? See Chapter 6 as example. Which do you like better.

Tera (TheBookishAbyss) Sounds like a fun book. I'll have to check it out. I enjoy reading off book lists as it helps me to not get rooted in one genre or author.

I wanted to give props to my cousin and friend Lydia who not only suggested the book to me but gave it to me for christmas

message 11: by Sherry (new)

Sherry Hey Michael,
Is there no Stephen King on any of the lists.I would have thought his The Stand would have made it.It's one of my favorites.

message 12: by MJ, Idiot's Top libriarian (new)

Just wait I have not gotten to horror yet!!!! There are very few authors in the book more than once and if they are its becasue they have crossed catagories. One of the reasons I like this book so much TONS and TONS of variety

message 13: by Sherry (new)

Sherry Awesome!I love horror. This is a lot of work for you though but a most excellent idea!

I have a goal to read every book in this book. Or at least the ones my library has ;)

message 15: by Sherry (new)

Sherry Wow,that's an impressive goal.I really need to get my hands on this book.I was tempted this week-end but had spent sooo much I thought it prudent (didn't want the look from my husband *L*)to wait until next weel-end.

Tera (TheBookishAbyss) I, too, would like to grab this book and read the titles within. I thrive on booklists. It must be something about the challenge!

This is the only book (besides text books in college) I have ever written in. I highlight the books I have read and then mark the ones I also own. Plus I make comments on if they are a series and if my library has the book. Who I think might like them also. etc. Does anyone know the number to that show intervention I may need one

message 18: by Sherry (new)

Sherry That's a good way to handle a list of this magnitude. And it certainly exposes you to a wide variety of genres.

message 19: by Santina (new)

Santina (littlesaintina) | 45 comments I'm not sure I should get this book...haha. I keep looking on here for more books I have read, all I seem to accomplish is adding books to my list to be read. I don't think I'll ever manage to read all the books I want to read.

Tera (TheBookishAbyss) Have faith!!

Shazzy thats what I did. First I went through and marked the books I had already read (and it was very few) And them I would just radomly pick books out of each chapter and get them from my library. I took a break and started to read a lot of vampires books and it turns out some of them were in the book also. Now I am back to reading books from this book

message 22: by MJ, Idiot's Top libriarian (new)

MJ | 1332 comments Mod
Shazzy I am going to send this book to you

message 23: by MJ, Idiot's Top libriarian (new)

MJ | 1332 comments Mod
All the books ar finally listed!!!!!

message 24: by Sherry (new)

Sherry Awesome job Michael! I broke down and bought the book tonight and will probably do what was suggested earlier and pick something from each chapter.

message 25: by Liz (new)

Liz (hissheep) No, but I have put it on the reserve list at my public library. Hooray for interlibrary loan!!

message 26: by Dia (new)

Dia I really like this book. I haven't read as many books as Michael but look forward to catching up!

message 27: by MJ, Idiot's Top libriarian (new)

When I got mine I went through and highlighted all the books I had read. I was very disappointed how many books were not highlighted. Then I went through and marked all the ones I own. Then I startes making reading lists. Can ya tell I am a little OCD. lol.

I hope you like the book as much as I did

message 32: by Catamorandi (new)

Catamorandi (wwwgoodreadscomprofilerandi) I am getting it from the library to look it over. If I like it, I will buy it. It sounds like it is a great book. I have 1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die, and I am not impressed. They have so many authors that wrote 8,9,10 books in the book. It is only categorized author and title. Your book sounds like it has many, many more assets. I can't wait to get it from the library.

message 33: by MJ, Idiot's Top libriarian (new)

MJ | 1332 comments Mod
There are a few repeat authors but most are authors that have written different generes.

message 34: by MJ, Idiot's Top libriarian (new)

MJ | 1332 comments Mod
It did for me too. I have discovered a whole new world of authors fiction and nonfiction

message 35: by Catamorandi (new)

Catamorandi (wwwgoodreadscomprofilerandi) I received my book from the library today also.

message 36: by Catamorandi (new)

Catamorandi (wwwgoodreadscomprofilerandi) I just got it from the library yesterday. I love it. It is tons better than 1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die. These are readable books and nicely categorized to boot. There are not ten books by the same author, and there aren't a lot of what are called "classics". I could actually read all but a few of these books with no problem. I can read the others; it just won't be fun.

message 37: by MJ, Idiot's Top libriarian (new)

MJ | 1332 comments Mod
If you look close a few books (just a few) are also on the 10001 books you must read before you die list also.

message 38: by Claire (last edited Jun 10, 2008 07:02AM) (new)

Claire Greene | 12 comments Hey just wanted to say, first - thanks for the invite to the group! I am excited because I LOVE finding new authors and great books. Second - thanks for doing all this work!! Basically putting the whole book on here and breaking it down for everyone to read and post comments, etc - that is great!! So thanks for doing the work that the rest of us can enjoy!

message 39: by MJ, Idiot's Top libriarian (new)

MJ | 1332 comments Mod
Your most Welcome. I am just glad that I can discuss these books with others

message 40: by Santina (new)

Santina (littlesaintina) | 45 comments I'm just wondering how fast you read Cupcake, I am lucky to get 2 books in a month, sometimes 3. I figure at that pace it would take me 45 years to read all the books listed in this book. Hahaha.

I use to get 5/7 a week. Now I am on goodreads so much may reading has dropped a lot. It also decreases in the summer due to warm days.

message 42: by Santina (new)

Santina (littlesaintina) | 45 comments OMG...5/7 books a week...Either I read super slow you are are a professional speed reader, maybe both...lol.

message 43: by MJ, Idiot's Top libriarian (new)

MJ | 1332 comments Mod
i have no kids/husband and really long winters. I also took a couple of speeding reading classes in high school.

message 44: by Kirsty (new)

Kirsty (kirstyreadsandcreates) Woohoo, I just got my copy of the book. I can't wait to look through it. I like reading books about books, lol. Problem is, I'm gonna have a really hard time deciding where to start! Can't start though until I get my 'own but not read yet' pile down - its currently at 33. Am kinda hoping some of the books in that pile are in this book!

message 45: by MJ, Idiot's Top libriarian (new)

MJ | 1332 comments Mod
I started by highlighting all the books I ahve read and then I just starting randomlly picking books out of each chapter

message 46: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thenightowl) I don't have a copy of this book. Does it tell you how they choose the books on the list?

message 47: by Kirsty (last edited Jul 02, 2008 08:03AM) (new)

Kirsty (kirstyreadsandcreates) Yeah, the people who put the book together are librarians, who have a combined 75 years experience. They spoke to a LOT of people within the book business - i.e authors, critics, publishers, bookstore workers, librarians etc, aswell as the general public. They basically just asked them what their favourite books were. Thats what I love about this list - they've asked people from all walks of life. It's not just the views of critics like with 1001 books...

message 48: by Carly (new)

Carly | 1 comments *sob* I've only gone through 5% of the list so far the list seems insumountable but I'll never give up, or at least i'll try not to.

message 49: by MJ, Idiot's Top libriarian (new)

MJ | 1332 comments Mod
Carly - dont stress just pick 1 book and start reading :)

message 50: by Cindy (new)

Cindy | 3 comments Wow - I didn't know about this book...I see a used copy on Amazon right now for $2.96....It's on the way to me!
