Lindsey I would love to know what you thought of the Troy series. They're on my list of books to read but I don't think I've read anything by Gemmell yet.

And in case it isn't obvious, goodness you read a lot!

message 3: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Hehe - yes, I definitely do read a lot, but then I prefer to do that over much else! Besides, my boyfriend watches on awful lot of football, so it gives me something to do other than watching him swear at how awful his team is.

I absolutely adored the Troy series, and think it's one of the best trilogies I've read in a while. Some poetic licence has been used, but the changes all work within the story and I've since recommended it to 3 of my friends, all of whom have loved it as much as I did. I'll be keeping an eye out for more of Gemmell's work now. Hope you do get a chance to read it - I'd be interested to know what you think of it.

message 9: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Hi Terri, sorry for delay in responding - have been on holiday!

The Strain was OK, but not brilliant (I was expecting more as I love Del Toro's films so much) but if you're into vampires it's an OK diversion for a few days. They're not the romantic type but most definitely monstrous, and there's an interesting take on the spread of vampirism. Do let me know what you think if you read it, I'd be interested to hear.

Lisa, is The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo worth reading?

Asia (jo-anna) | 44 comments You’re doing great:) I realise that you posted it some time ago, but what do you think about The Girl Who Played With Fire? Is there so much cruelty and violence as in the first one? I must admit that I’d have enjoyed the Girl With the Dragon Tattoo immensely if it hadn’t been for that:) And now I’m wondering whether I should pick up the sequel or not.

message 18: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Hi Asia, I enjoyed it immensely but if you were put off by those elements in the first book I think you'd have similar problems with this one, although to a slightly lesser extent. As the culmination of Lisbeth's story I thought it worked really well, so if you found that aspect interesting and wanted to find out more about her it would be worth continuing, however while it's maybe not quite as graphic as the first there are, if I'm remembering rightly, still some rather distressing parts.

message 19: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Have just realised that Girl Who Played WIth Fire is the second one, in which case there is definitely a lot of cruelty and violence, so will most likely not be up your alley...

message 20: by Asia (new)

Asia (jo-anna) | 44 comments That’s a pity. The character of Lisbeth seemed interesting enough to give it another try. Maybe if at least there were no tortured animals so, are there any? I do hope not:)

message 21: by Lisa (new)

Lisa I don't remember any tortured animals, unless you count people?!
