What are you reading? (Part 2)

What book(s) are you reading right now? Urban Fantasy or other genres... How do you like it so far? What is it about? How did you hear about it? Is it part of a series or a standalone?

I FINALLY got from the library so will be reading that, followed by .

I'm reading , and it is by far the best one yet. Sadly, I'm almost done.

I just finished Soulless last week - the blurb on the back does not do this book justice. It's even better than it looks.

I found that I did not care for the book, I ended up quitting it around page 65. But I think I am in the minority for this one.

Darcy, do you mean Soulless because I forced myself to finish it. I hated it until the last quarter of the book where there was much better humour and a lot more action.

I started the second one a couple of weeks ago, got to page 50 and became bored, went to the back to read the ending which was jaw-dropping cliff-hanger then read the free excerpt of the third book which I'm now desperate to read but have given up on the second one for now. I don't believe this author's books are balanced enough in boring bits, humour and action to keep me interested throughout.

Yes Amy, Soulless is the one that I meant. It seems like most people think the book is the best thing since sliced bread, just not me, but I am glad to have given it a try.

I will be reading next.

I read Spider's Bite a couple days ago, it was a bit rough around the edges but I enjoyed it enough that I'm going to read the sequel when it comes out next month.

Good to know. I tried her different books and had to give them up.

I'm a third of the way through Nightingale's Lament by Simon R. Green, #3 in the Nightside series. So far so good.
This is the first time I can remember, where Taylor gets his butt handed to him. More than a small loss of pride, and a bit of desperation send him to an enemy for help.
As usual, I'll probably zip through this one and fight the urge to read the next in the series. I'm trying to spread them out, so they'll last longer.

I finished . It was pretty good, lots of world building and character background but that usually comes with a first book. I'm now reading

I did the same thing Amy. I got kind of bored about some mechanical thingy she was describing, went to the end and was so depressed that I had a hard time going back to the book because I knew how awfully sad the ending was. I can't wait until book #3 comes out.

Love the Nightside books, but has been some time since I've read NIGHTINGALE'S LAMENT, so can't remember the situation you're talking about.

I'm rereading Patricia Briggs' Bone Crossed, before going on to her latest, Silver Borne. I love the Mercy Thompson books, and also the Alpha and Omega series.

This particular scene, Taylor goes to the Cavendishes to get some answers. The Cavendishes are the managers of the singer Rossignol whose songs/voice inspires her devoted fans to commit suicide. In the lobby of their office, two Somnambulists come out and kick the ever living crap out of him. A couple of times. All of this beating and dragging about, occurs in front of other people. Which doesn't contribute to his infamous rep.

I picked up two of the Mercy Thompson books several months ago, at flea markets and yard sales. After reading so many positive reviews of the books, I decided to give them a go. Turns out I don't have the first one. Go figure. I've got Bone Crossed, and Blood Bound. My 'books to get' list is getting longer than my 'book to read' list...

and now I'm finishing the uglies series just so I know the end of the story lol

I finally got Soulless from the library and didn't care for it enough to read very much of it at all. To me, it felt like the author was trying too hard-- and missing -- at putting her characters in a particular place and time and class. And, I've got Pride and Prejudice and Zombies and Queen Victoria: Demon Hunter on my TBR stacks...

I've just finished New Tricks and am reading Unleashed.

I stayed up late last night to finish . Definitely Urban Fantasy, with very little romance, which was nice for a change. It was good, but also very dark. If anyone remembers the movie Dark City with Keifer Sutherland & how dark the effects made the city look, that’s how I visualized the world of this book.

Just finished reading Bone Crossed by patricia Briggs and White Witch Black Curse by Kim Harrison...waiting on a copy of black magic sanction to come into the library...

I am finally reading and its about time lol

I finished listening to Once Dead, Twice Shy and really enjoyed it. I was so happy that the once dead part of the title didn't mean teenager vampire. Kim Harrison created an unusual situation for Madison Avery. The universe was filled with angel like beings and rippers. The philosophy of the rippers was new to me and not illogical. I'm waiting for the audio download on book two.

I continue to read Proven Guilty and just started Enchanted Glass.

I've finished . It was good, but I never really connected to Kate. I liked the world and other characters better than her. Hmmm. I hear the other books get better so I'll definately read them later.

My library finally got a copy of in for me. Yay! I'm picking that up today. :)

I finished Tekgrrl and am now reading Conspiracy Game.

I bought Moon Called at Barnes and Noble on the 20th, and started it that night. I finished it a few hours ago. I've already got the second book, which I'm looking forward to reading. This is the first werewolf story that I actually like. I'm more of a vampire girl, and in the Anita Blake series I cared less and less for the weres. It might just be because of Richard, and the way things went for him in the series, that I have such a low view of werewolf books. But, I'm liking what Patricia Briggs brings to the table here. Good stuff!

Becca: Once you've finished Moon Called (and know a bit more about the weres), try Patricia's "Alpha and Omega" series. It's to do with Bran, Sam and Charles - Mercy is mentioned but doesn't appear. The first book is called "Cry Wolf", and the next one "Hunting Ground". The prequel to "Cry Wolf" is a novella called "Alpha and Omega" and can be found in the "On The Prowl" anthology.

If I remember correctly, the "Alpha and Omega" series occurs at the same time as "Moon Called" (the events tie in), so you don't have to have read any more of the Mercy books to keep up.

If you like vampires, have you read "Sunshine" by Robin McKinley? That's one of the best vamp novels that I've read.

I don't really care much for weres either, but I also love the Mercy Thompson & the Alpha & Omega books that PB writes. I like the weres in the Sookie Stackhouse books, too. And is hands down the best werewolf story I've read. Really different take on the werewolf legends.

This is one of the few vampire books I've never been able to finish. Just something about it.

I just got done with THE HUNGER GAMES by Suzanne Collins and now I'm reading Three Days to Dead by Kelly Meding. Loving it! :-D

In the Middle of Lament, Listening to Maximum Ride : The Angel Experiment and abut 70 pages left in The Coven book 2 in the Sweep Series.

Next for me will be . I liked the first one and am looking forward to this one.

I'm now reading Patricia Briggs' Silver Borne. This is such a good series!

Finished The Coven! WOOT WOOT! thinking I want to start catching fire and Beautiful Dead now.

I'm going to read Divine Misfortune by A. Lee Martinez as soon as I finish WWW: Watch.

I'll keep an eye out for the Alpha and Omega series. Thanks. I started Sunshine right before I left for boot camp, and picked up right where I left off. I've been a fan of Robin McKinley ever since.

Shiver sounds really interesting, I will keep an eye out for that one as well... I swear, I'll never get to read all the books I have. I just keep getting more and more... lol.

I finished by Jennifer Estep. I LOVED IT!!! Fantastic Urban Fantasy book!!! I could not put it down. I can't wait to read the next book in the series! I'm now reading and almost finished with by Molly Harper, which I am loving also. Hilariously funny and charming book! I've loved all three books in the series. I'm now moving on to by Heather Graham.

Melodie, I didn't like Sunshine either; however, I did muddle through the books & finish it. Just don't ask me what it was about, I promptly purged the information. The bad thing is, it was a book I had been looking forward to reading.

I am reading now and will start later today.

My library carries audio books for most things, but not tapes anymore, they are all CD's.
