High school mile record holder Alan Webb is training but still not ready to compete for the 2010 season apparently.

Alan has been plagued throughout his career by stress fractures and other injuries. He is a talented runner, tireless trainer, and fierce competitor. On our Group's bookshelf is Chris Lear's account of Alan's freshman year at Michigan: Sub 4:00: Alan Webb and the Quest for the Fastest Mile.

Webb turned pro after one year at Michigan, moving back to Virginia 2002 where he could train under his high school coach. He later set the American record in the mile in 2007 at a blazing, incredible 3:46.91.

I trust that he can run for a few more years. Perhaps he will move to the 5,000 meters like Marty Liquori, and extend his tenure in competition.

As a former (yet mediocre) miler, I admire and appreciate Alan Webb.
