Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments This looks interesting but I don't have any books with sea-creatures or dwarves/hobbits etc.., I think I can cover all the others just out of my TBR.

message 54: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25780 comments Shellyrae, where's it coming from? 3-6 wks is a long time.

Laura, yep Nicholas is the 1st book in the Satyr series and Dane is the 5th book.

Amber, check out what everyone else is reading, get your library ladies to help and/or check out Awesomevegan's links.

Mary, what about the library for those 2 categories, they'd at least have The Hobbit: Or There and Back Again. Would hate for you to miss the challenge. Misery loves company you know.

message 55: by Amber (new)

Amber (crazyaboutbooks) | 499 comments Thanks Sandra, I found one that I hope will work for both the challenge and me??????

message 56: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments I'm not really a rereader and I've already read The Hobbit and the LOTR trilogy twice now. I have Kraken by China Melville on my PBS WL.

I actually started a book that'll fit the ghost category today. So maybe I'll track it just to see.

I think I can fill the demon category with a Dresden Files book. There's demons in there.

But I have 900 books here in my TBR so I don't really want to go out and acquire any just to fit a category.

But maybe I'll track the ones I have anyway just incase I come across one of the creatures I'm missing. You never know a dwarf or similar could turn up in one my Urban fantasy books and I could get my WL for Kraken fulfilled

Judithe | 6566 comments Now...are the stories really as good as the covers?

message 62: by Valorie (new)

Valorie | 446 comments I enjoyed them, they are borderline erotica so if that's not your cup of tea than you might not like them. I know Raine involves a hermaphrodite so that might turn some people off. I really enjoyed them though.

Steph (angel4492) | 32425 comments Valorie, I couldn't help but look at Raine's cover when you mentioned that and see he's missing his towel.

I noticed that too...

The blurb looked pretty good...so might try and do some rearranging on my list...:)

My bonus is actually a re-read...but from long enough ago (and maybe it didn't really grab my interest enough) that I don't remember the story.

Judithe toodles off to check out a few bookshops on-line....

Shelleyrae at Book'd Out | 346 comments Sandra wrote: "Shellyrae, where's it coming from? 3-6 wks is a long time."

Sandra, I ordered from bookdepository.com because I didn't know how long it would be before I would be able to buy an ecopy. It usually takes about 3 weeks between order and getting though they cover themselves and say 3 - 6 weeks - sometimes its a little less.

Amber wrote - "Having a bit of a problem with finding a book to read in the hobbit/gnome/dwarf section of this challenge. Any help is welcomed((please))?????? "

I used Valories pick of Silver Borne (Mercy Thompson 5) - so I hope she picked right:)

Nicole Peeler's Tracking the Tempest has a gnome - not sure if the first has the same
Tempest Rising but someone else might know

or what about Harry Potter - Dobby the House Elf would count.

message 66: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32425 comments Amber, someone may have mentioned this one already, but all of Kim Harrison's "Rachel Morgan/Hollows" books have pixies and fairies. Jenks, love him, and his family. That would work, I'd guess, for "little person".

His love interest is the hermaphrodite so I guess its kinda M/M but not really, I guess? It was an interesting read because it explained how she was treated badly because of it, but she tried to overcome and be a better person. It was a good story.

Well her former boss Zee is one of the little fae and the character who owns the bar they usually go to frequently is a dwarf I think. They are usually included in the books so that's why I counted it.

Shellyrae I'm surprised it takes so long from BD, I know you're up the coast, still, it usually takes 10-14 days for me. 3-6 weeks just seems wrong.

message 72: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32425 comments Yeah, it only took 10 days or so for me too (when I was in AU). Maybe you should email them. I had to email BD once and they responded super fast and were very helpful.

Laura Lulu (lauralulu) | 1603 comments AV-can you clarify for me? You stated in the challenge description "Read 10 books with the following creature as one of the main characters (or love interest)", that's why I was having a hard time with the little person category. But I noticed others were using supporting characters--is that ok? If it is, I'll be able to fill that category, I was just having a hard time finding one where it was the main character or love interest. Thanks!

I've read the first book in his stepsister series and I enjoyed it. Not sure about the goblin series though.

Amber (crazyaboutbooks) | 499 comments CROSSING FINGERS.......it looked more appealing to me then the hobbit. Not a lot of choices for leading roles on little people in books.

There was little fae, and goblins in the Stepsister book I read. Here is the link if you are interested The Stepsister Scheme. It was a pretty good read too.

Awesomevegan (AKA JenReads) (awesomevegan) | 468 comments I haven't gotten caught up with all of your posts. I noticed there there is some problems with the little person category! I hope everyone can find one. I will be pretty lenient in that category. Maybe we can create a list of books that will help. I hope some people will join the challenge that have an interest in this category and can help us out.

Awesomevegan (AKA JenReads) (awesomevegan) | 468 comments Apparently the Cirque du Freak books have little people:

Book 1 is:
A Living Nightmare (Cirque Du Freak, #1) by Darren Shan and book 2 is The Vampire's Assistant (Cirque Du Freak, #2) by Darren Shan which was made into a movie.

I found a goblin series on Amazon:
Goblin Quest (Jig the Goblin, Book 1) by Jim C. Hines is book 1. BTW it is on paperback and Kindle.

If you are having a particularly hard time with any category you can use supporting characters. Please try to make MOST of the categories the main character/love because it will make it interesting for people looking for reads in those categories, for example if someone LOVES mermaids or angels etc. :)

Isn't that the truth, Judithe? We wait and wait and wait and sometimes wait longer still yet, then (sometimes) you get the book, it's over in 4-6 hours and sometimes it just wasn't all that and kinda stinks you had to wait so long for a dud. LOL!
