Suzanne | 188 comments I always think of September as the harvest month.

1) Read a mystery involving a farm, produce, cooking - basically anything that celebrates harvested food.

2) In particular, September seems to be the month for grape harvesting and wine making, so read a mystery that involves, wine, vineyards, or other spirits.

Trine (trinespageongoodreads) | 200 comments Great list of choices, Suzanne. :-)

I'll be reading One Bad Apple (Orchard Mystery, #1) by Sheila Connolly by Sheila Connolly and The Diva Runs Out of Thyme (A Domestic Diva Mystery, #1) by Krista Davis by Krista Davis.

Happy Reading, everyone! :-)

Lizz (Beer, Books and Boos) I might do this on too. I will have to think about my books

I think I'll be reading Red Delicious Death (Orchard Mystery, #3) by Sheila Connolly by Sheila Connolly (which will be useful for Summer season) and Murder by the Glass (Wine Lover's Mystery, Book 2) by Michele Scott by Michele Scott (which will cover the September author).

Tammy These sound like fun. Thanks for posting early so we all have time to gather up our books.

No problem - Linda suggested it on the July thread and I thought it was a great idea. :)

message 7: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 188 comments I thought I was all set and then I read Marisa's post. I had been debating between Ellen Crosby's The Chardonnay Charade since it takes place in Virginia and I need that state for the USA challenge and Michele Scott's series, which have been on my TBR for a long time. So, I think I'll go with Michele Scott since she's the featured author for September.

For farming, I'm going to read Mad Season (Vermont!). For wine, I'll read Murder Uncorked.

I have three possibles for the farm/harvest theme: Red Delicious Death by Sheila Connolly, Farm Fresh Murder by Paige Shelton, and Town in a Blueberry Jam by B.B. Haywood.

For the wine theme, I am going to try to find Murder Uncorked by Michele Scott. Don't seem to have anything else in Mount TBR that fits the spirits theme. Well, not the drinking kind anyway. ;)

Valorie | 550 comments I think I will try One Bad Apple (Orchard Mystery, #1) by Sheila Connolly for my farm choice and Murder Uncorked (A Wine Lover's Mystery, #1) by Michele Scott for my wine choice.

message 11: by Daphne (new)

Daphne (daphne2163) I will also go with the apple Rotten to the Core (Orchard Mystery, #2) by Sheila Connolly and wine Corked by Cabernet (A Wine Lover's Mystery, #5) by Michele Scott themes for September.

I love these challenges as it is such a great way to read a lot of different series/authors!

Do you see what we do to keep our challenges under control? We get a book and use it in two or three challenges. That's called efficiency ;)

Heidi | 2446 comments Not to get too off topic, but does anyone have a favorite wine mystery series? I have seen several, but never read a wine mystery and don't know which one to start with.

I have not read any of the wine series yet, but many of us are planning to read something by Michele Scott to tie in with her being the September featured author - if that helps in your decision at all. ;-)

Michele Scott has more romance elements in her book, so if you really don't like that, I would say try the Ellen Crosby ones. Michele Scott's have a lot of recipes, the one I tried was good.

I've only read the first one by Ellen Crosby - I think it was The Merlot Murders. I liked it and plan to get to the rest of the series some time. But, I am going to try Michelle Scot's for September.

message 35: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 188 comments Wow, Sue, you are rockin' the casbah on the themes!! I'm just starting my first one (farming).

message 36: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (whatkreads) I'm not sure if this would really count for a wine themed book, but I'm currently reading The Long Quiche Good-bye and they keep mentioning wines. The story is set around a cheese shop, but they expanded business to include a wine tasting area. So they pair wines with cheeses, quiches and other foods. If you haven't read the book yet, I highly recommend it. I'm halfway through and truly enjoying it so far.

I think it would absolutely count. Since part of their business is the wine bar (or whatever they call it) in the same store. You are right they did talk about wine almost as much as cheese...which wine went with what cheese and such. I say count it!
