I'm sure we would all love to read books with characters that remind us of Gen. Post your suggestions here.

I know tiegirl calls Miles Vorkosigan from Lois McMaster Bujold "Gen in Space" and I told her that I think Telemakos from Elizabeth E. Wein's books is "Gen in Africa"

Rosalee (rosaleeluann) | 2 comments Yes and Yes. And we can call the Scarlet Pimpernel books "Gen in the French Revolution".

Oh I think I have a copy of The Scarlet Pimpernel because I heard about it from Sounis. I don't know when I'll read it though. I know Locke Lamora has also been mentioned as being Gen-like.

The Lies of Locke Lamora (Gentleman Bastards, #1) by Scott Lynch Red Seas Under Red Skies (Gentleman Bastards, #2) by Scott Lynch

Ninedaysaqueen | 2 comments The King of En in TWELVE KINGDOMS vol. 3 is very much so like Gen.

Also, I know this is T.V. series and not a book, but has anyone ever seen WHITE COLLAR? The main character Neil reminds me of Gen. He's even described in the first episode as being - "a special kind of b*stard". Sound familiar?

Amy (aaammmyyy) There's actually a list here of books recommended for fans of The Queen's Thief.

Holly (hollybally) | 4 comments Oh, Chachic? You haven't read The Scarlet Pimpernel! That was the only book I read in 8th grade honors English that I absolutely loved! I was lucky to read it before I saw any of the movies.

Amy, thanks for posting that list from Charlotte's blog! I wasn't a follower yet when she posted that.

Holly, I only found out about The Scarlet Pimpernel from Sounis! I already have a copy but I don't know when I'll get to read it. :( I know I keep saying that but I have so many books in my TBR! *sigh* If only I could read faster.

Mordena | 3 comments I'm the one who always recommends Kidnapped. Such a great book.

message 10: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca | 2 comments This is not a book but a movie. Has anyone seen the new Three Musketeers movie? If no one has I won't say what reminds me of Gen cause it's a spoiler.

Oh sorry Rebecca, I just saw your comment. I haven't seen the latest Three Musketeers movie but I want to now that you've mentioned there's a Gen-like character there!

message 12: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca | 2 comments haha please don't go buy a ticket just for that - it's more of a Gen-like moment at the end of the movie that reminds me of a little incident at the end of KoA.

☣ EMᕈRESS SERΔ ☣ (empress-sera) | 5 comments I love a book called the False Prince because the main character is so much like Gen. I just finished the Series and it just gets better.

message 14: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (mikkaybear) | 2 comments Yes, The False Prince for sure. Sage was fun, but only when he was Sage. When he wasn't Sage, as in the final book, I personally found him to be rather boring. That's one side of being in his position, I suppose! It isn't always fun and games.

Telemakos is the closest I've read, but that makes a whole lot more sense when you know about MWT's deep fondness for The Sunbird. I suppose instead of saying we can see a lot of Gen in Telemakos, we can see a lot of Telemakos in Gen!

A lot of fictional cats remind me of Gen. Mogget, from Garth Nix's Abhorsen series. What is it about sassy demon cats?

And perhaps a bit of Wizard Howl.

On a related note, I also recently read Mary Hoffman's City of Masks, and holy lemons, Silvia is one heck of an Irene! You don't see many of her!)

☣ EMᕈRESS SERΔ ☣ (empress-sera) | 5 comments I disagree. In the last book he may not have been Sage but he still had the Gen-like spark in him, it just wasn't as prominent because there were too many people trying to keep him from it.

message 16: by Christina (new)

Christina Wizard Howl, Mairelon the magician, Westley from the princess bride, etc. are all kind of like Gen. also the storylines of all their books seem to have quite a few "sigh" parts.

message 17: by Jamie (new)

Jamie Dacyczyn (readsintrees) | 9 comments I read "The False Prince" and was not impressed (SOOO predictable!), and hoped that maybe the series would get better? No?

message 18: by Ion Nomenus (new)

Ion Nomenus | 1 comments Sage is Gen-like because he takes what anyone would call "abysmally stupid" risks that involve getting the fluff beat out of him. The later books have him doing it more and more, but there are a few clever bits. If you want some real-life Gen-like genius, read P. R. Reid's book The Colditz Story. Crazy escapes.

message 19: by Juny (new)

Juny | 1 comments I would recommend The Sherwood Ring by Elizabeth Marie Pope. Peaceable Sherwood's personality is so great and kept reminding me of Gen.

message 20: by Jamie (new)

Jamie Dacyczyn (readsintrees) | 9 comments ^^Agree! I just read that for the first time.

message 21: by Celebrilomiel (new)

Celebrilomiel | 2 comments The Sherwood Ring is one of my all-time favorite books, and I agree that Peaceable and Gen are much alike. Gen is definitely more spiteful, but they're akin in determination, ingenuity, and leadership (oh, the loyalty they inspire!), and even in inconspicuousness.

message 22: by mairiachi (new)

mairiachi (twicebaked) These have probably already been mentioned but The Scarlet Pimpernel is one, mostly the prequels, Laughing Cavalier and The First Sir Percy especially since the main character's name is funky, and looks kind of like Eugenides.

Another one is The False Prince, even though he's much younger than Gen and the series is NOT as well-written. Still, it's what everyone compares them to. And I agree that Peaceable acts like Gen a lot. :)
