Amy | 175 comments I have Room: A Novel reserved at the library i thought it sounded really interesting.

I am trying to read The Slapfor the second time but struggling with it! gave up first time round. It sounds like such a good story but I find all the characters awful. I don't like any of them. If anyone else has read it I would be interested to hear what you think.

Haven't read anything from the list yet (well, most of them are probably still only in hardback...)

Peter Carey is one of my favourite authors (he's also won the Booker twice), I love Oscar and Lucinda. Rose Tremain, is another excellent writer. Andrea Levy wrote Small Island - very good. I've read one book by Howard Jacobson, he tends to write tragi-comedies. David Mitchell, I keep meaning to read (and will, eventually, Cloud Atlas is on my TR list).

The others are all completely new to me.... so plenty to look forward to!

Em (emmap) | 2899 comments I haven't read any of the list either, although a couple have caught my eye eg. Tom McCarthy since read an interview with him in paper and saw review of C, also I have loved everything I've read by David Mitchell so that ones a cert. Ony recently read Rose Tremain and that was short stores but liked it and I reckon I'll seek out more books of hers too.

I heard Peter Carey is bookies favourite (I think.) Hasn't he won it before?

Lynne - The Book Squirrel (squirrelsend) | 3572 comments My book club read In a Strange Room by Damon Galgut for a library meet up of all the local clubs the night before they announced the winner. Each club picked a different book to read.

It read like a travel book come semi autobiography of how different events and people influenced the main character.

I quite enjoyed it once you got passed the way it was written - used different tenses throughout which was a bit odd!

Timothy Pilgrim (oldgeezer) | 238 comments Hi Lynne,
check out 'The reincarnation of Isaac Brock' by Tony Robinson. Not THAT Tony Robinson!
Isaac Brock is to Canada what Nelson is to England, his monument even looks the same, across the St Laurence from Buffalo.
The book is Historical, a travel journal and the authors auto biography all rolled into one, it is absolutely BRILLIANT, probably my all time favourite, why? I have no idea, I just couldn't put it down.
All the best Paul Rix [oldgeezer]

Interesting, Timothy. I'd never heard of it. I always found my Canadian history sort of boring. I'll check it out.

Timothy Pilgrim (oldgeezer) | 238 comments Hi Bill,
if you have trouble finding it contact Authors OnLine. I'm pretty sure it's on Amazon, it was. The author lives over on the west coast, Vancover Island possibly
All the best Paul Rix [oldgeezer]

Lynne - The Book Squirrel (squirrelsend) | 3572 comments Will check it out Paul. Will add it to my list of 'books to look out for'.
