We have read a few good books so far, but have we missed your favorite 2011 Mock Newbery pick?

What books would you like to see on our next poll for September’s book of the month?

Dana Duffy Backs | 45 comments I am reading Countdownat the moment and it is very good. Here are some I'd like to read:

Mirror Mirror: A Book of Reversible Verse

Cosmic(this book has some odd publication dates, so I don't know if it would technically count as a newbery contender)

The Death-Defying Pepper Roux

Thanks

Emily (emdoux) | 1 comments I'd like to see Leaving Gee's Bend and The Water Seeker on the poll!

Pam | 22 comments Either The Water Seeker or The Dreamer would be terrific to read!

I know Cosmic isn't eligible even though it was fantastic. I'm not sure about Pepper Roux - was it pubbed simultaneously in the UK and US? If so, it should be ok.

Kathy (thebrainlair) | 66 comments Heart of a Samurai looks good!

Pam | 22 comments What about Smile? Of all the books I've read this year, that one really stands out as truly remarkable. Am I completely off and missing the point about the Newbery with this one?

Thanks for all the ideas. I will post the poll now.

I didn't add Cosmic, (Why havn't I heard of this book? I'm adding it to my library requests) and Pepper Roux, I'm checking on them...

I agree with Kathy, and would like to read Heart of a Samurai.

Katie | 11 comments The Death-Defying Pepper Roux is also ineligible as the author, Geraldine McCaughrean, is British.

Dana Duffy Backs | 45 comments Ahhh, too bad about Pepper. I think The Water Seeker is more of a YA book. I'm reading Leaving Gee's Bendat the moment and that certainly seems Newbery worthy.

I LOVED the Smile but so much depends on the illustrations that I think it would have a hard time winning since they look at text.

Kathy I think you are right, which is unfortunate, because of all the books I've seen this year, SMILE is the one that has touched the hearts and mines of the kids the most. The character growth and adversity was tremendous.
