Greatwondereroftheworld | 2 comments I do not know the author nor title, but I recall the book being about a wealthy girl owning a rabbit doll. But something happened so he was thrown into the trash, I believe, and from there his new "life" began. The story tells about his journey from person to person until he finds his first owner again. Like I said, I'm not sure of a title but I do believe the title was long.

The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane?

"Edward Tulane, a china rabbit, is the main character in this thoughtful tale by Kate DiCamillo (Candlewick, 2006). Edward is dearly loved by a young girl named Abilene. One day he is lost over the side of a boat. His journey leads him to a older couple who dress him like a girl rabbit, a hobo and his dog, a young girl and her brother and, finally, to a doll shop. Along the way, Edward learns to love the people he encounters. He also learns that family members can be cruel to one another; that hobos have family that they love dearly and don't want to forget; that no matter how much you love someone, she may still die; and that no matter what happens in life, never give up on love."

In the Velveteen Rabbit he only has the one owner. And he's thrown out to be burned because his owner gets Scarlet Fever or something equally nasty, it was written--or maybe just set--in the time before anti-biotics and immunologies. So everything from the nursery is to be burned. The Rabbit is spared because the boy had loved him so much, so a fairy turns him into a real rabbit. He does stop and the kid sees him out the window and remarks that the wild rabbit he sees looks like his beloved toy

Cindy (newtomato) | 47 comments I agree with Lobstergirl above. This sounds an awful lot like Edward Tulane. It's a lovely book - my little niece was so excited to recommend it to me!

Julie (onetrooluff) | 89 comments I think it's definitely Edward Tulane. Abilene, his first owner, is wealthy and Edward does get thrown in the trash at one point. He spends the book being passed from owner to owner and it ends just as the original poster suggested.

(I just read this book about a month ago.)
