Lisarenee | 7659 comments This challenge is for serious readers. This is the 5th level of this challenge. The challenge consists of many levels, each level consisting of 100 books. So if you have not completed your first 400 hundred, go back and complete the previous level(s) of the Serious Readers Challenge for 2010 that you haven't already finished. Please one post per player. Just create your list of books (at this level label them 401 through 500) and mark them off with a strike through them as you finish. If you find you can't finish one of the books on your list for any reason, you may replace it with another. Also, if you just want to decide what you read as you go you can do that as well. Since this challenge is for the year 2010 any books you've read this year may be included so we may have quite a few levels being utilized at one time once I get this challenge up. If you get done with one level, but I haven't created the next just let me know and I'll add the next level to our challenge as soon as I can. This is a free choice challenge. Read whatever you want. Hopefully, all is clear. Happy reading.

You're definitely a speed reader.

Heather T (horrorvacui000) There are tests you can take online that will tell you. If you're over 1000 words a minute then yes. I'm at like 900 something, so I go through books very quickly, but I don't have tons of time to read. If I didn't read so fast I'd be at 50 for the year. Most people read between 200-300 words a minute.

Shay | 923 comments So far, I've read an average of about 44 books a month- around 15,000 pages a month. So, about 530 books. This has been a "slow" year for me- a lot of classics and a lot of 1000 page books (well, not a lot, but about one a month). I read over 1100 words a minute if I try, actually slower when I read for fun.

message 17: by Melanie (new)

Melanie (melaina) | 287 comments Huh.. It'd be interesting to do the test! I don't have usually have tons of time, but I try to get in 3-5hrs in the evenings when I can, it keeps me sane:-) When I'm free/on holidays, I usually do read a lot... In August I read 91 books, but usually I stay between 45-60 bks... What's this online reading test?

Heather T (horrorvacui000) How much time do you have to read?
I'm getting close to 350 and am around 32-28 books a month. I feel like I'm spending a lot of my spare time reading. Although, I took a week off while I was on vacation and worked 60 hour weeks for the first several months of the year. I've had other days where I don't read much, like this week where I'm taking 2-3 days on 1 book because I keep falling asleep.

Melanie (melaina) | 287 comments I've been writing essays for classes, and reading a couple textbooks, keeping up with my schoolwork (light classes this semester, only about 12hrs /wk with 5hrs or studying), and seeing my boyfriend, family and friends... I do usually try to find the time to read at least one book a day, but I average 2 (some days I have no time at all to read, but another day when I have all afternoon and evening to myself I can read up to 6/7 books in a day..)
In March or April I was working part-time as an office manager, substituting (elementary school) and tutoring three kids 12hrs a day, along with seeing my friends and boyfriend.. I think I only read about 30-35 bks each month at that time... waaay too busy, lol.

I usually start off reading the first 10-20 pages slowly (I guess about 600-a lot faster (works better when I'm not concentrating on my speed, lol)
