Sarah (sarah23l) Great list Angela! I'm reading In Cold Blood next year too. I'm really looking forward to reading books I already own, and making a list like this is a great motivator. Good luck on your reading goal!

Digitalenviromentalist (reymos) | 3 comments Wow this is really awesome list and quite inspiring to do the same. Maybe I could invite you as a guest reviewer or contributor to my blogsite. . Im really impressed! Rey

Thank you Sarah - let's hope we can keep on track! :0)

Glad you like my list - and thanks for the friend request, by the way! It was quite an enjoyable exercise putting the list together - tried to vary genre, length etc, but we'll have to see how it pans out!

message 6: by Chris (new)

Chris Stanley (christinelstanley) Wow Angela, nice list.
I have a few on my TBR and a couple I read this year. I absolutely loved In Cold Blood by Truman Capote, but Let the Right One In by John Ajvide Lindqvist not so much.
I would enjoy making a list like this, deliberating over each book, but then I'm so fickle, I wouldn't stick to it! Good luck with your list.

That's the problem, Chris - sticking to it! I catch a glimpse of a book on the shelf and think "Oooo, I must read that NOW" and that's that! Feel like a challenge though...and I'd rather make a New Year's Resolution concerning books than one to do with keeping up with the ironing!!!

message 8: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (sarah23l) Amen to that! A resolution about reading is a lot more fun than resolving to lose weight or keep a cleaner house ;-)

Digitalenviromentalist (reymos) | 3 comments You are welcome. Thanks for sharing. Merry Xmas!

I think so...I just finished two ebook stories from smashwords.com. Im also busy updating my blogsites - from photography to travelling.

message 12: by Angela (new)

Angela (bookangel2) | 220 comments One finished!!! "Room" was an interesting read.

message 13: by Diane (new)

Diane (dianedj) I am liking Room much more than I ever thought I would.

message 14: by Angela (new)

Angela (bookangel2) | 220 comments It's strange, Diane. While I was reading it, I felt quite exasperated at times, but since I've finished it, reviewed the book and started to discuss it, I'm appreciating it more and more.

message 15: by Diane (new)

Diane (dianedj) Glad that you two like it as well!

message 16: by Kerri (new)

Kerri I'm really nervous about Room......have been avoiding it, but maybe I'll change my mind after hearing all of your positive comments.

message 17: by Diane (new)

Diane (dianedj) Kerri, I put if off for months, didn't think it would be for me.

message 18: by Angela (new)

Angela (bookangel2) | 220 comments Kerri wrote: "I'm really nervous about Room......have been avoiding it, but maybe I'll change my mind after hearing all of your positive comments."

It's well worth reading, Kerri. The more I think about it, the more I like it!

Angela...I've read all the Sookie Stackhouse books...fun....I also read The Secret Garden last year...enjoyable. I thought Let the Right One In was great and I don't usually read horror! Happy Reading!

message 20: by Angela (new)

Angela (bookangel2) | 220 comments Hi Shelli
I've read the first 3 Sookie Stackhouse books and am really looking forward to the rest. I bought all of them as a cheap offer from a book company in England, so they've all been sitting looking at me for long enough! Glad to hear your opinion of Let the Right One In - people seem to have mixed views about it.

message 21: by Angela (new)

Angela (bookangel2) | 220 comments Have just finished "The Victory". Good historical read - will review tomorrow, probably.
Vampires, here I come!!

message 22: by Angela (new)

Angela (bookangel2) | 220 comments Finished "Dead to the World" today. A bit of fun!

message 23: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (sarah23l) Sounds like you're doing a great job reaching your reading goals for the month, and reading some good books. Way to go!

Angela (bookangel2) | 220 comments Sarah wrote: "Sounds like you're doing a great job reaching your reading goals for the month, and reading some good books. Way to go!"

I'm quite pleased with myself, to be honest - seem to be getting the balance right for a change. In the past, I've spent too long reading about books and chatting about them and not nearly enough time doing what I love - which is reading the books on my bookshelves, piled up behind the settee, stashed away under the bed....!!

message 25: by Shelli (new)

Shelli I totally agree Angela....we're doing this BIO challenge in Novel Ideas and I too am really happy to read the books I've had for so long.....on GR it's hard not to get wrapped up in new books all the time!!!Not that it's a bad thing....but it feels really good to read books I look at all the time!!!

message 26: by Angela (new)

Angela (bookangel2) | 220 comments Finished Faceless Killers yesterday. Really wish that I'd read it before watching the T.V. adaptation. Both the book and the T.V. version were very good, but it messes up the "pictures in my head" if I've already seen someone else's idea of a character. (Does that make sense or do I sound totally mad??) Anyway, it was a good read and I'm looking forward to the next Henning Mankell on my list.
Have started The Lemon Tree by Helen Forrester.

message 27: by Angela (new)

Angela (bookangel2) | 220 comments I finished The Lemon Tree yesterday - not a bad book, but I could "take it or leave it" really. Seemed to take a long time to get through, probably because I'm reading Bleak House at the same time.
Have started The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks now - hope to be a bit quicker with this one!

message 28: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (sarah23l) I have The Immortal LOHL on my list of books to read this year. Can't wait to hear your thoughts!

message 29: by Angela (new)

Angela (bookangel2) | 220 comments I finished Travels with My Aunt this morning; a real gem! I'm also reading 61 Hours and will pick up Bleak House again. Haven't seemed to read with much momentum this past month, but hope to pick up the pace again!!

message 30: by Angela (new)

Angela (bookangel2) | 220 comments I'm so glad I've finished 61 Hours. Didn't like it much - disappointing, as I enjoy a good thriller. Going to concentrate on Bleak House again before starting another, shorter read.

message 31: by Chris (new)

Chris Stanley (christinelstanley) Angela - you are doing so well with your list, what discipline! I'm so impressed!

message 32: by Angela (new)

Angela (bookangel2) | 220 comments I'm quite enjoying the discipline, to be honest, Chris. I have so many books, that I felt that I really needed to focus. So far, I've been happy with my choices - except for the last one! The trouble is that I come across books all the time that I want to read NOW, but I've been squeezing most in onto my challenge shelf, so add to the list all the time!
Are you enjoying your thrillers? And how were the ghost stories?

message 33: by Chris (new)

Chris Stanley (christinelstanley) The crime/thrillers are good, but I need a break from them; five in a row is a bit much I've got Apartment 16 loaded on to my kindle for a bit of spooky, then I'm looking for something easy and lighthearted. I might go back to Chocolate Wishes, which I gave up on last year, but it looks like it'll fit the bill this time around.

message 34: by Angela (new)

Angela (bookangel2) | 220 comments Oh dear! Only one of the March books read so far. :( Trouble is, I've been reading books that I won in Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ giveaways and Bleak House is such a big book. Actually, I'm enjoying it a lot so need to get on with it!!

message 35: by Angela (new)

Angela (bookangel2) | 220 comments Another one finished. I quite enjoyed Auctioneer's Lot - easy to read, quite amusing and fairly interesting.
I'll soon be finished with Dead as a Doornail - a fun, light read too!

message 36: by Angela (new)

message 37: by Angela (new)

Angela (bookangel2) | 220 comments Finished The Last Fighting Tommy: The Life of Harry Patch, the Oldest Surviving Veteran of the Trenches last night. I really liked it. A very interseting insight into the life of such an old man.

Jim (jimmaclachlan) Angela wrote: "Enjoyed Dead as a Doornail."

I'm listen to the audio book versions & am now listening to "Club Dead" the third. Odd as it might seem, I'm actually enjoying the audio books more than the regular books. I'm downloading them from the local library (book 4 isn't available ) but the rest are through #8.

My review of the first, Dead until Dark (Sookie Stackhouse / Southern Vampire Series #1), is here:

Interesting to read your review, Jim.
I've never tried audio books, to be honest. Don't think I could drive and listen - prefer music! - but would be ideal to knit to! :0)

They're great for cleaning the bath to as well!

message 41: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) Knitting would be good, Angela. I hadn't thought about that. I usually watch TV while knitting, but it's basically the same thing - I don't need all my attention on the task at hand & get bored just listening to music or thinking. I can't listen to audio books while working in the shop or doing most tasks. I get too wrapped up in what I'm doing & lose track of the story constantly. That's when I listen to music.

I generally only listen to 'easy' books or something that I've read before while driving, so if I do have to concentrate for a while, it's not a big deal. Note that my commute is easy driving - non-rush hour, highway or empty roads. Of course, if I listen while knitting, I'll have to break down & get an mp3 player that I can carry with me. Right now I just use CD's with mp3's burned on them in the car. I don't care for wearing headphones, either.

message 42: by Angela (new)

Angela (bookangel2) | 220 comments We've been watching several T.V. series that have sub-titles - not so good then to combine watching and knitting! Tend to lose track of both :)
I used to like to listen to plays on the radio while clicking away with the needles.

message 43: by Angela (last edited Apr 28, 2011 07:23AM) (new)

Angela (bookangel2) | 220 comments I finished Martyr today, but was a little disappointed. Usually, historical mystery is a favourite genre, but I found it hard to concentrate on this one.

message 44: by Angela (new)

Angela (bookangel2) | 220 comments I sat and finished Attack of the Unsinkable Rubber Ducks today. For me, this has been one of the best reads of the year!!

Shelli Angela wrote: "I sat and finished Attack of the Unsinkable Rubber Ducks today. For me, this has been one of the best reads of the year!!"

I'll have to check it out!

message 46: by Angela (new)

Angela (bookangel2) | 220 comments Have you read anything by Christopher Brookmyre, Shelli? He's got a really wicked sense of humour - dark, you'd probably call it. The book was full of twists and turns and a little confusing at times, but you have to think about it.

message 47: by Shelli (new)

Shelli I have not...but sounds interesting!

message 48: by Shelli (new)

Shelli You are doing so well on your challenge!!! I'm still reading a lot...but getting really sidetracked!!!

message 49: by Angela (new)

Angela (bookangel2) | 220 comments At last! Bleak House is finished after several months of intermittent reading. It's taken so long, but I'm glad I've read it - good plot and wonderful characters. The trouble is I'm way behind with this challenge.

message 50: by Angela (new)

Angela (bookangel2) | 220 comments So glad to be able to cross Bleak House off the list! Although I really liked it in the end, it's taken such a long time to read. I'm way behind with this challenge now, but never mind; I'll just keep reading!!
