11 March, created an excerpt page for my newest completed work, The Angel of Berlin. It is gay fiction, speculative fantasy, non-erotic. I add that last statement because some think that simply because it is labelled as gay fiction that it has to contain sexually suggestive or explicit scenes, this story doesn't. Rather like my story A Lieutenant's Love, there is love but it is not erotica.

It's located at GLBT Bookshelf. Here's the description:

"When Robin, a first year university student, saves the life of a beautiful young man, he finds he's made a devoted friend. But without memory and voice, the newly named Angel is a mystery, occasionally exasperating with his child-like qualities yet possessing a strangeness which makes Robin wonder what type of being he's really taken in."

Over at the Dreamspinner Press Group http://www.goodreads.com/group/show/4... which has recently opened here on Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ.com, for members who join, participate etc. they will regularly be giving away books from the DSP site.

I've one title with DSP, A Lieutenant's Love, no idea if it's on the list. But if you're a reader of m/m fiction it's a way to receive some giveaways.

Also stop by and say hi, at my little index in the author list http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/5...

Created a page for my character, Katrdeshtr the Night Cat, on Facebook. If the link doesn't work, all you have to do is search his name and he appears ;-)

Katrdeshtr's Redemption (The Night Cat, #1) by Red Haircrow

Ironically enough, it is really great fun to have a dialogue with him, read his comments, etc. He does have a distinct personality, but like all the people in my books, they are some aspect of myself as well.

Nancy "Yes, I am gay. Sort of. Well, it doesn't really matter does it? Everyone is tasty."

No wonder I love Kat. :)

Oh no, I just meant I wasn't going to go rambling off on some other topic, because I tend to get distracted.

You can make whatever comments you like :-)

It's kind of liberating being "Kat."

Published a work of short fiction, "The Coat: Secrets of a Hatcheck Boy," it's a free read if you visit Smashwords use this coupon code PN46V.

Description: "While working in a Dublin nightclub, Liam becomes obsessed with a beautiful patron whom he names Silky, because of the man's extravagant furred coat. It inspires countless wonderful fantasies for young Liam, but what happens when he's caught at play?"

Excerpt: “He could barely wait to slide his hands into the depths of the coat to feel the lingering heat of the man's flesh, to rub the fur over his face. He risked being turned off upon the instant if discovered, yet every chance he could steal, he would caress those dark, secret folds.

It's a complete "scene" in itself, but it does have a sequel coming soon, which is titled: "The Room: Entry to the Goddess.

I'm returning to Germany!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That deserves many exclamation points :-) I didn't think I could make it happen so soon, so I am just estatic!

It was rather a spur of the moment decision, though I've been contemplating it for a long time. Though I have obligations like my book store which had been holding me down, as well as my health...I said, "Life is too short."

I don't know what tomorrow will bring but I have to go back to where I can truly take a deep breath :-)

message 12: by Nancy (new)

Nancy I'm happy for you, Red. Soon you'll be able to add a German flag to my counter. :) When are you returning?

I enjoyed your interview at Bibrary Bookslut. Edgar Rice Burroughs was one of my childhood favorites.

Yes :-) I'll try to "hit" you from Poland also, as we're going there first. Stopping off to see a friend in Warsaw, and then "back" to Berlin. It will be in June! Got a great deal on tickets, had to book.

Thanks for that, probably for classics Burroughs is in my top two. I loved the Pellucidar novels also, besides Tarzan and the rest.

Oh and btw, The History of Modern Psychology is kicking my butt. This class...pfft, not going well and not besides I just didn't do my work like before. The English is too deep for me.

message 15: by Nancy (new)

Nancy I like Warsaw. In some ways, it reminds me of Paris with its wide streets and sidewalks. In other ways its modernity makes me sad, knowing that so much of the city was destroyed during WW2 while other major cities, like Krakow, were almost untouched and strongly retain their historical character.

I'm sorry about your class, Red. I was starting to suffer burnout towards the end and found my last 5 or 6 classes more difficult. I'm glad I took all the very difficult subjects early on, like math, science and statistics.

My husband struggled through many of his classes, particularly those that required extensive reading and writing. Even after living in the US over 20 years, English still gives him trouble.

Yea, English is funny like that. I know English, but sometimes it can completely confound me especially textbook formats or directions/manual type things.

With tying up loose ends, packing for Germany and liquidating my unneeded items I can't take with me, *plus I spilled a friggin Mountain Dew on my laptop sp it's kaput!*, I will be more sporadic in replying or interacting.

I'm just irritated with myself about the computer, plus...now I remember why I hate moving. Tons of things to do.

Take care everyone!

message 18: by Nancy (new)

Nancy The one good thing about moving is that it forces you to get rid of possessions you no longer need or want. Hoarders like me could probably benefit from moving every 5 years.

I'm sorry about your laptop, Red. Computers are not cheap. Is it fixable, or will you have to get a new one?

I will be leaving for Poland in just a couple of weeks to spend some time with the in-laws. Though I'm not looking forward to the trip, it will be nice to get away from work and my daily routines.

Good luck with the move.

Later in the day of 27 April, after exchanging those messages with Nancy, in my region severe weather caused massive devastation and loss of life and property. Currently, we are under a state of emergency.

We were without power for most of the week, and like many it was very lean and hard times. I wrote a brief post about it here, but will add my written journals entries in the next days. After the Tornadoes: 27 April to now & How we are living.

Thanks for those who send notes of concern and good thoughts. It was very much appreciated.

New Release: The Angel of Berlin by Red Haircrow The Angel of Berlin, from Flying With Red Haircrow. 23 May 2011.

A speculative fantasy of magical realism and innocent love set in modern Berlin.

These days? Playing online spades, savoring the last tastes of Mello Yello and eating foods that are harder to find in Germany.

Tonight, I'm making egg rolls. Again. Sure there are all kinds of Asian restaurants at home, but I prefer to make my own, to a certain degree. I can make eggroll wrappers from scratch, but yes, prefer to buy them to speed the process.

Tomorrow we're going to our favorite restaurant for lunch buffet (it's Korean), and I'll consume as much kimchee, bulgogi and chap-chae as I can safely hold. The interim of days before our flight leaves on Monday will give me time to lose the heavy garlic scent I'll exhue after eating. LOL Takes a few days.

Had a nice and easy time in Warsaw, Poland, and a few surprises making it back home but finally in Deutschland again.

The lake is as I remembered it, of course, and it's bittersweet to be there. Besides writing, still deciding what I'm going to do exactly. Will finish university (:-) if I can pass my next courses, and maybe set up a book deal with a couple of long time friends. We have it on the agenda for early July.

message 34: by Nancy (new)

Nancy I hope the surprises were good ones?

Good luck with finishing university. Are your classes mostly online? As much as they are more convenient, I found they were also more difficult. Sometimes it's easier to sit in a classroom and listen to a lecture.

Glad all the stress of traveling is over and you are now home.

Not all the surprises were good ones, but it's all good in the end I guuess. We're here and we can make the dream.

I am in between deciding whether to go to a university here or continue another semester online. I'e to get my son situated in school first before I can take physical classes.

LOL! I'll have to write you about the rest of it. Just my luck :-)

Posted an excerpt for the new WIP I mentioned before, titled "Hazardous Confessions." It's an intergender mystery romance, and the first time within contemporary fiction I've discussed real facts and realities of being an androgyne.

Blurb: Going home is sometimes hard to do, but when there's a hidden conspiracy and murder involved, Andi Schaeffer learns it can be very dangerous indeed.

Description: Starting a new life wasn't turning out as easy as he'd hoped even though Andi Schaeffer is returning to his family's ancestral home in Germany. After a failed affair and very public break-up with his former lover in America, life in the small picturesque town of Bad Alder is just what the former police officer is looking for: quiet anonymity and a place to regain his inner balance and calm.

But like the wide waters of Schartig Lake seen through the rear windows of the stately house, beneath the village’s calm surface lies a secret someone is willing to kill to keep hidden. Though he no longer has a badge, with the help of the quietly charismatic local polizist, Gerald Dahlke, Andi sets out to unravel the mystery and motive of murder.

It is nearly complete although I started only two weeks ago, which for me, is pretty good considering I've been trotting the globe since mid-June.

I'm curious if it would be generally of interest since it is completely set in Germany, and it does discuss intersexual topics not often explored or really known about from a genuine and personal perspective.

I recently reviewed his novel,Willy Willy by Robert Dunbar and interviewed Robert Dunbar, the author of multiple titles with gay themes or characters.

It is posted at Queer Magazine Online, where I am a guest reviewer and regular contributor.

My upcoming article is titled, "Homo-Ignorance", discussing those who are sometimes inadvertently part of the problem.

Just started a collaboration to write a series of books based on my world and people called "The Children of Driy" with a fellow writer and excellent friend, Nephylim. This is the series about a race of androgynes as created by an androgyne author (yea that's me) so many of the facts will be biographical in nature. For many, learning what life can be like for those of use who are dual, this will be very eye-opening. There will be everything from stories of romance and love, to politic intrigue, and darker tales of those who've struggled with their existence.

This is a work I'd like to share with other authors who are interested in and understand the vision of what I wish to create. I've built the world, history, religion, language and basis, and others can reinforce and expand the Driynan universe.

message 45: by Nancy (new)

Nancy Great review! Congrats, Red. I can imagine that certain types of readers may not enjoy the magical realism aspect or lack of closure. I'm glad I'm not one of those! :)

I've only read the excerpt and look forward to reading the rest very soon.

It's not how short the story is, it's how well the author breathes life into the setting and characters.

message 46: by Red (new)

Red Haircrow (redhaircrow) | 194 comments Mod
I'm glad you're not either :-)

I suppose as a long time fantasy reader and personally with a background of mysticism, I don't need or expect the logical or concrete or spelled out to umpteeth degree. Or maybe it's doing police work for so long, so many rules, guidelines, explanations...Both are entirely too boring for me.

But yeah, I don't know how someone goes into reading a fantasy book expecting everything to be "real." Just because magical realism is present or all questions aren't answers, doesn't mean it can't be enjoyable for itself.

With "The Angel of Berlin" the point itself was that Angel was meant to make Robin happy, and that was all that mattered to him, his mysterious past, and the rest of the world for that matter.

Thanks, Nancy. I'm glad when someone appreciates a fairytale for what it is. (It's not Of Anna Karenina, sheesh LOL)
