southpaw285 Welcome to the challenge thread. Reading challenges can be fun and exciting. They are great for helping to reduce your TBR, as well as introducing you to new books, genres, and authors...which ultimately increases your TBR. It's a crazy circle.

With that in mind, we decided to try something new for the month of May - a "mini" reading challenge. Details will follow soon.

If you have questions about the challenge, you can post them here.

southpaw285 For the May challenge, one of our participants needed to know where to find a list, and I wanted to answer that question here so that everyone would know where to look.

There are two places:

(1) MJ has set up a separate thread for each chapter in The Complete Idiot's Guide to the Ultimate Reading List, and within each thread you will find a list of books. This is a really neat feature because it is broken down by genre...historical fiction, mystersy, science fiction, romance, etc.

(2) From the group's home page, under the "General" tab, there is a thread - "spreadsheet". By clicking on the link, you are able to access a spreadsheet, listing all of the books contained in The Complete Idiot's Guide to the Ultimate Reading List.

This should give easy access to anyone needing to find out whether a certain book is on the list.

If you have questions or a problem accessing the spreadsheet, please let me know and I will email it directly to you.

Trisha Hello Southpaw,
Just a quick question. What do we do when we're done? I'm finishing up my last book (after a crazy marathon reading even last night), and I wasn't sure if I should do anything?
Should I just go and update the reading areas for each of my books and do a little happy dance in my living room? ;)

Hope your reading is going well too!

southpaw285 Hey Trisha,

That's great! Yes, just go to your original post and either strike through, or put the finish date beside each book you have completed.

Definitely do the happy dance. Also, I will let you in on a little secret...

Reading challenges are great fun, but many people ask the question - "what do I get for completing my challenge"? Of course we can't do "prizes" for everyone who finishes the challenge; however, you can reward yourself. Buy a book you've really been wanting, buy a music cd, put back $5 towards a really expensive something you've been wanting to buy...the list goes on and on. And the really great thing is, you have the satisfaction of reducing your TBR, and the satisfaction of completing the challenge.

I hope you had fun doing it. I may put another one together for June. What do you think?

Congratulations on finishing the challenge...and being the first to finish.

Trisha I must admit, I LOVED this challenge. The books I picked to read to match my M*A*Y were books I never would have picked up on my own and wouldn't have picked to read anytime soon from our guide either (unless it became a group read) so it was nice to get three more titles off my TBR!

I'm going to buy myself a new book today! Great idea, Thank you Southpaw!! I've really enjoyed this challenge!!

southpaw285 I'm glad you had fun with the challenge, Trisha. What do you think of doing one in June?
