A Discovery of Witches will be our July group read!

I actually read this last month (I'm at the mercy of the library waiting list). Has anyone else read/started this yet?

I'm on the list at the library but I have no clue where I stand. I may just buy it instead of waiting....

I read this last month like Charleen and ready for the discussion.

I'm still on the waiting list for the library, I'm not having good luck with the group reads. I want to apologize to you guys for that, I feel bad I'm not participating more. I have a lot going on in my personal life and I'm having a hard time getting to these and still doing all the other stuff for this group.

It's no problem, I don't always get to the group reads either.


Well I guess I will start off with just my general thoughts. Hiding the rest under a spoiler tag just in case . . .

I really, REALLY liked this in the beginning. I got into the author's voice, and her gradual way of introducing the world, immediately.

Because of this, I have high hopes for the rest of the trilogy. But, I do wish the ending here would have been a bit more satisfying. Personally I feel that, even in a series, endings should provide some amount of closure, and this one really didn't. And it seemed like the closer we got to the end, the less focus the story had, and I could tell that it was going to be one of "those" endings. So, that was disappointing.

But, like I said, I really enjoyed the writing itself, and the ideas behind the story, so I really hope that the following books live up to their potential.

I am about half way through, loving it so far. It's been in my to-read pile for a few months, so I was really glad when it came up as the group read because it gave me the push I needed to finally start it.

Finally got it from the library...better late than never!

I'm still waiting for mine, isn't that crazy!!!

Hopefully you'll think it was worth the wait!

I read it several months ago, it was a GREAT read, & I'm looking forward to Book Two :)
