²Ñ— | 379 comments As we have multiple moderators for this group, here is a folder set aside for all mod-related communication.

I thought to structure this folder along the lines of the conversation threads the Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ Librarians group, using perpetual threads to track large project that need to be done in multiple stages and by several people (like shelving the backlog of found books) and shorter threads for general mod-wide information.

Please, everybody, tweak the folder as you see fit.

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) | 1396 comments Thank you, M-, for starting this folder. I know that it will be very useful for the moderators, and for this group.

²Ñ— | 379 comments I ran into a post recently that was filed in the wrong folder, which I moved to the correct folder, but it also had one of those nondescript 'whats the name of that book' post headings. I didn't edit the post heading -- although I know I have the ability -- because I was worried about overstepping mod abilities.

So I thought to query for confirmation. No, don't change member post titles to suit myself; or yes, change if necessary as in the above situation and probably leaving a comment explaining the change?

Since the purpose of the group is to get the books identified and shelved as quickly as possible, I'd be okay with moderators changing thread titles to include a really brief synopsis ... I choose which threads to read based on those title descriptions tickling something in the back of my memory.

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) | 1396 comments At some point, us co-mods should communicate (in this thread is fine) about who's doing what. There's no point in duplicating our efforts.

I've been gone for a few days and I'm going to have to check all threads unread by me to see if any action is needed. It would be helpful to coordinate what everyone is doing and when so that we don't all have to check the things.

Thoughts?

²Ñ— | 379 comments Ah-ha, you're back quicker than I had expected. I haven't been opening the Unsolved posts, just skimming the group email when it comes out. If there are any found books there that haven't been moved to the found folders, I've missed them.

message 7: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) | 1396 comments Okay, M-, Thanks. I'll try to catch up.

I access the group posts by reading unread from the groups' home pages, and even though I get the email, I never pay attention to it.

Rebecca (liralin) | 198 comments So, now that I'm joining in as a mod -- where would you like me to focus my efforts?

message 9: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) | 1396 comments Rebecca, It's actually up to you; this is a volunteer position.

What I most want a break from is shelving found books, and moving folders when necessary. Some members do each, but many do one or the other, and many do neither.

I'm willing to do some but I've been getting burned out, and might want to spend a little time going back to some of the old finds.

I'd at least like help with the moving folders & shelving during times when I have to be away from the computer, as I was the last few days. (I now have many, many threads to check!)

But, Rebecca, what would you most like to do?

message 10: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca (liralin) | 198 comments I'd be glad to help with shelving/moving folders on found items. I've been watching all of the new edits, so I can try to keep on top of that as much as I can.

I'm currently slowly working my way through the unsolved folder, looking for things I can answer. I'd be happy to also start working my way through one of the folders to shelve answered things. Is anyone working the YA solved folder already?

At the moment, I'm just happy to help in any way that is most useful. I see it as building up karma points for when I finally get around to posting my own, uber-vague queries. Sadly, I fear my missing books that I haven't been able to find are going to be the variety that everyone is like "huh? you expect us to go off of THAT????" I need all the karma I can bank... :)

Anyway, for the threads you need to check -- if you want to tell me what folder and what range, I can try to go through some for you.

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) | 1396 comments M-? Rebecca, I think it was in another thread but M- said she was working on some old found books, but I don't remember which folder(s). Yes, it makes sense for us to coordinate.

The problem is we don't want to inundate members with a post at each solved thread saying it was moved and shelved, so does anybody have any suggestions about how we can let each other know when say all books found between such & such dates have been moved/shelved? I'm talking about newly found books. I suppose we could post here, but there may be a better solution.

message 12: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca (liralin) | 198 comments What if we add something to the end of the title? Say, like a [s] or something, to indicate to us that we've shelved it, or confirmed it's been shelved? If we just change the title, it doesn't show back up in the list as a unread again, does it? An extra step, but would give us a visual queue to look at to know what's been done, maybe?

message 13: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) | 1396 comments Rebecca, I like the [s] idea. Now, I hope to remember to do it. Thanks! Jackie and M-, Are you okay with this?

message 14: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) Ok, now that we're welcoming Andria, this is as good a time as any to make sure we're all using the same strategies to tidy solved mysteries.

When an OP says their book has been found, we need to 1. move it to the apt Solved folder and 2. make the discussion topic 'about' the book and 3. shelve it, with the 'about' link back to the discussion.

2. and 3. are apparently not easy to do on a mobile device? I'm not sure - I only visit this group when I'm at my PC. In any case, Ana has apparently devised a 'placeholder' mark, the /s. I've seen her use it to indicate she's working on tidying up that book and will finish doing so soon.

So, if I'm understanding correctly, that's great, imo.

Otoh, whenever I tidy a solved book's thread, I'm able to do everything at once. So that's when I use the [s] that Lisa Vegan wrote about earlier in this thread, that was devised when she was moderator.

And that's good, too, I opine.

The only difficulty I encounter is when OPs shelve their books. If we could train them to use the [s] and the "about" links, that would be great, but I don't see it happening. So, I vote we don't encourage them to tidy their own threads.

So, do you all agree on the steps necessary to tidy the threads? Did I leave anything out?

Do you agree on the use of /s and [s]?

Are there any other difficulties any of you encounter?

Is there anything I can do to make your tasks easier?

Am I being ridiculously anal? ;)

message 15: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) Oh, one sub-step I did leave out - I've forgotten to do this a lot - shelve the added book on one of the four non-exclusive shelves. That is to say, all the books we add are 'read' but some are 'adult non-fiction' and some are 'adult fiction' etc. It'd be nice if we (I) would remember, too, to shelve them that way.

Hi all,

I haven't paged down this far in awhile, so I just read these comments from February.

Cheryl, it looks terrific. You summed things up really well. I'd love to hear from Ana about the /s marker. I was initially confused by this marker and have assumed it was just a variation on [s], which indicates that the book has been shelved. I had noticed that the books weren't always completely shelved, and have always checked. However, lately, the books have been completely shelved. I'd love to know if /s is now Ana's way of saying [s]!

Cheryl (cherylllr) Thanks! I think we're doing really well, overall.
