I think it would be better to edit the original post. Do others think they would appreciate a separate thread to be able to ask for suggestions for specific states, or would you rather just review the members lists as they post.

Oh, this is a cool idea because I absolutely love lists. Now, what if the books takes place in different states - for example, I read The Glass Castle which started out west I think, then moved to Virginia or W Virgina (can you tell I'll have to do some research?) and then to New York. Do I count just the first state mentioned?
Count it the way it feels right to you; this is your challenge. For myself, a lot of the book will take place in the state, so I might get two states out of a book, but probably not three.

Yep! I've got 31/51 (including DC). So far I've just been posting the states if I happen to read a book set there, but I think I'm going to have to become a little proactive and choose books set in certain states if I want to finish.
I still work on it as I happen to read books set it the US.
I am. But I only have 22 out of the 50 plus DC. I keep reading books set in Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee. lol. I need to be more intentional about choosing books if I ever expect to finish it. :)

I can't believe I only have 7 left! I have books for Alaska, Hawaii, NM and S Dakota, just have to get to reading!
This is such a cool challenge! I love especially browsing people's lists to see what they picked out from my state (AR) because those are harder to find.But if you're looking for Arkansas books, Donald Harington wrote a bunch of them. I'm a big fan of his books. Also, there is one I've seen by John Hornor Jacob (This Dark Earth) that is set in Little Rock, but it's a horror novel so not to everyone's taste. I've not read it but the premise sounds cool.

My state of Idaho is also difficult to find books for, but I just found out a local author has written a book set in our local high school and our library has it, so I'll read that one.
Oh, I also forgot... there is a romance author who does, I think, Christian inspirational stuff. Shannon Vannatter. She's another Arkansas author.
