Josie | 1967 comments I'm still not sure what to read so I'll decide in the morning depending on what kind of mood I'm in :)

Alyssa (lyssad87) | 974 comments I've got like 2 books before I get to the one for this shelf, I think. (One of them IS my Free Space book though. That's a library book, so it might be next.) Unless I decide to rearrange things. *shrugs* Eh.... I don't know.

*sighs happily* Ahhh.... I love Bingo. It's soo much more relaxed until you get close to getting a bingo.

Thanks! I've had it on my TBR forever. And, I've probably owned for like 6 months now too. Been trying to read it for months. I'm excited now.

I'm so into the Paul McCartney biography that I don't want to pause it for a few days.

Vi | 938 comments I'm torn between The Lightning Thief and Fool Moon. I'm already reading Kushiel's Avatar (Kushiel's Legacy, #3) by Jacqueline Carey which I don't want to stop. Maybe after finishing, I will decide between them.

ETA: I will use The Body Finder (The Body Finder, #1) by Kimberly Derting for this round since I'm going to be reading it later today for a buddy read.

That's sounds like the norm for us series-mad readers. ;-) I kept putting it off so long, I made a reading resolution to read at least the first two books in series by the end of the year!

I'm just over half way for the 'free-space' shelf so hopefully will be done or close to finishing by tomorrow :)

Vi | 938 comments I finished The Lightning Thief (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, #1) by Rick Riordan today, 1 Aug 2011. I had some time before starting the The Body Finder, so I finished this off. It still feels like a bit of HP wannabe but enjoyable nonetheless. Some parts of the beginning had me going 'WTH?' but I was able to hop on and enjoy the ride. My rating for this book is ★★. I'll definitely be picking up the next one.

message 164: by Kristen (new)

Kristen (k10bentley) | 422 comments I finished my book, too.

You Slay Me (Aisling Grey Guardian, #1) by Katie MacAlister

Date: 7/31/11
Stars:
Review: This was horrible. There are two reasons I could give it one star: 1. I had to give it something. 2. The sex scenes were steamy. Otherwise, the protagonist, Aisling, was incredibly irritating! It shocked me that anything would want to have sex with her. The idea of a Newfie as a demon, trotting around Paris was ridiculous. If it was supposed to ironic, it wasn't. Newfies don't run away, they are so lazy (my brother breeds them). Irony would have been a poodle. The dialogue was irritating, too. I've read some satirical pieces and I'm pretty sure that MacAlister wasn't going for that. I read that people LOVED this series, but I'm not going past the first book. I'm irritated that I bought this for my Nook, I can't even give it away to Goodwill.

I'm going on an trip back to India from 6th till 16th. I'd probably be having internet access but it'll be sporadic at best. I'll try to read and update based on the shelf announced.

Only one more day to go!! :D

Josie | 1967 comments Have fun Vi! Don't worry, it's not like we're at a critical point in the game so just enjoy yourself.

I finished my 'free-space' book yesterday but didn't get a chance to post a review until today.

Bound by Shadow (The Dark Crescent Sisterhood, #1) by Anna Windsor

Title/Author: Bound by Shadow by Anna Windsor
Date finished: 3 August 2011
Rating: ★★
Review: Sybils, each fighting using one of the three elements; earth, fire and air, are in a war against the demon-using cult called the Legion. Riana, an earth wielding Sybil and Creed, part of an Occult Crimes Unit, are our two main characters.
Lots of action in this book which was great. I'm not sure how I felt about this book as a whole though. At some points I really liked it, at others I didn't so much. Maybe it lost a star when Riana cried after sex due to how perfect it was. Not cool.
I will pick up the next one at some point :)

The Lightning Thief (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, #1) by Rick Riordan

Title/Author: The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan
Date finished: 5 August 2011
Rating: ★★★★1/2
Review: This is my kind of book, it's got adventure, mythology and humour. I loved Percy, he made a great hero. It probably would've been 5 stars but I kind of knew what was going to happen since I've already watched the film. I'm looking forward to the next book :)

message 178: by Alyssa (new)

Alyssa (lyssad87) | 974 comments I love that the book is soo much more awesome than the movie. (I did think that the movie was cool too, but my brother hates it.)

My brother hates the movie because of the stuff they left out. Plus, Annabeth is blonde in the book, but in the movie she's brunette. I mean how hard would it have been to dye her hair? (That totally bugs my brother too.)

I think the books get even more awesome as they go on. Probably cuz they're getting older. The last one was kind of epic, IMO.

message 179: by Josie (new)

Josie | 1967 comments I thought the film was cool too! Lol, that's the trouble with reading the book before the film, you expect everything to be EXACTLY like the book so I try to watch the film first so I end up liking both.
I'm glad they get better and better, looking forward to continuing, I'm getting the second today, yay! :D

Yeah. That's what I thought too. I kind of wished the would've made it so they could make more movies. It was way too different to do that.

My brother is the same way with the Harry Potter movies. He doesn't really like any of them cuz they're not the same as the books.

It's tough when they make good books into movies. I'm hoping The Hunger Games movie is as brilliant as the book! Part of me doesn't want to see it, because I love the books so much.

Alyssa (lyssad87) | 974 comments I think I'm going to go with Faefever (Fever, #3) by Karen Marie Moning .

I've still got a couple of books to read before I get to that, so I could end up changing my mind. I'm still considering reading Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher .

message 191: by Kristen (new)

Kristen (k10bentley) | 422 comments I finished it and wow, was it dark, but enlightening.

Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher

Finished: 8/7
Stars: ★★★★
Review: This is really dark. Even though I had a good idea of what happens at the end, I could not put this down AND I was surprised at the end. I see why the YA crowd loves this book and I will recommend it to my students. The story is told from Clay and Hannah's voices, shifting between the two, as Clay listens to the tapes and thinks. Just like Clay's life will never be the same for listening to the tapes, as a "listener" my life will never be the same. This book will take some digesting.

Suzanne (esmerelda1) | 1024 comments Instead of Slave to Sensation, I finished Bullet.

Finished: 8/5
Stars: ★★
Review: I don't know why I torture myself with this author. I feel like I should keep reading these books because I"m looking for closure or some understanding but so far I'm just getting really bored. I understand why she writes the way she does because it's Noire and Anita is getting beyond her "I'm a good girl" delusion but I still don't understand why she's in Horror and not just Erotica already...but there was really no point to this book except for Anita to realize she doesn't mind her man-whores sleeping with other women, but yet she's upset because she's not upset? Gahh....

Alyssa (lyssad87) | 974 comments I have finished The Darkest Night (Lords of the Underworld, #1) by Gena Showalter for the Free Space.

1. Date finished: 8/7/11
2. Rating: ★★★★
3. Review: Why I have I never read this series before!? O.O Eeek! I loved this book. Maddox and Ashlyn were too cute. (Plus, totally awesome names, right?) I love mythology and demons. A bit of action, some hot romance, and a bunch of messed up hottie guys makes an awesome read for me.

I very nearly went into a great book induced coma yesterday when I finished it. I enjoyed it soo much that I had to go out and buy books 2 and 3. I'm actually going to start the second book next. I can't get enough!
