Kevin Xu (kxu65) | 530 comments I just finished Endymion, which was a great read. Just wondering what are in store for everyone on their reading list.

message 2: by Stacy Renee (last edited Sep 01, 2011 08:10PM) (new)

Stacy Renee (LazyDayLit) (stacyrenee) I hope to get through George R.R. Martins "Game of Thrones" and Gregory Maguires "Wicked"... just to name a couple in my list. :)

message 3: by Kevin (new)

Kevin Xu (kxu65) | 530 comments I have a few copies of Wicked, tried to read the book two years ago. I could not get into it.

Julie Kevin wrote: "I have a few copies of Wicked, tried to read the book two years ago. I could not get into it."

I agree, Wicked was VERY hard to get through. I did manage it because I started listening to it on tape. Although I had to be careful while driving because it put me to sleep. I hope that the Broadway show was better!

message 6: by Jenny (last edited Sep 04, 2011 10:48AM) (new)

Jenny (jennyc89) I'm still reading The Three Musketeers and I've already started Leviathan Wakes and Something Wicked This Way Comes which are two of my September group reads. Also on the list are group reads The Book Thief, Neverwhere, and Heart of Darkness. I also hope to add on Dead to the World,The Caves of Steel, Perfect Shadow: A Night Angel Novella, and The Walking Dead (Volume 3).

message 7: by Shannon (new)

Shannon (_shannon) I'll definitely be reading The King of Attolia and Nights of Villjamur. Will also try to read Neverwhere,Daughter of Smoke and Bone and The Winter King.

message 8: by Lee (last edited Sep 02, 2011 07:35AM) (new)

Lee Broderick Shannon wrote: "I'll definitely be reading The King of Attolia and Nights of Villjamur. Will also try to read Neverwhere,Daughter of Smoke and Bone and [book..."

I keep meaning to get around to re-reading The Winter King - I read it when it first came out and absolutely loved it. I also got my ex-wife hooked on the trilogy, but I don't think I've ever read it a second time.

As for what I'm reading this month, in terms of fantasy, I started
[book:Soul Music|34502] yesterday and, looking at my list, I should also get to A Game of Thrones this month.

message 9: by Candiss (new)

Candiss (tantara) I'm starting September off with A Shadow in Summer, then moving along to Kafka on the Shore and The Antelope Wife.

Other reads in the queue for the month include The Revisionists, The Honor of the Queen, The Habitation of the Blessed, Embassytown, Feed, City of Bones, and Machine Man.

message 10: by éèԱ (new)

éèԱ (hlneb) I had a ten hours drive two days ago and listened to the French version of The Three Musketeers. It greatly helped to pass the time!
Now that I'm back, I intend to finish Fortress in the Eye of Time and then A Shadow in Summer
I'll re-read The Dragonbone Chair. I liked it very much when it was released (I'm appalled to notice it was more than twenty years ago!) and I'm curious to see how it has aged.
No further plans - but probably Hexed on audio. The first volume was fun.

message 11: by Bonnie (new)

Bonnie The only way I got through WICKED was to listen to it too. When I was stationed in Alaska I walked many miles looking for the lions, tigers and bears to come out and attack me but then found out that WICKED is a novel of a different sort and I had to put out of my head all preconceived notions of the Wizard of Oz story; only then was I able to understand it.

message 12: by Likos (last edited Sep 03, 2011 03:17PM) (new)

Likos X (likosx) Just began The Blade Itself, and if it's good as everybody say, I'll go on with the other two books of the trilogy.
I joined goodreads (and this group) only a few days ago... the alternative to Abercrombie was Tad Williams... If I had arrived before I would have read The Dragonbone Chair... But you never know, maybe I'll read it! :)

message 13: by Trevor (new)

Trevor (clevtrev) | 32 comments I recently finished Dust of Dreams and The Crippled God. I thought it was a really great ending to the Malazan series.

Next up is Mr. Monster.

I've just started Fortress in the Eye of Time, really like it so far, I'm about 8% in.

message 15: by Traci (new)

Traci Halfway through Nights of Villjamur. I like it, cool worldbuilding and imagery. And started Under Heaven this morning, liking it so far.

message 17: by [deleted user] (new)

Getting in A Dance with Dragons, finally. Then planning on reading Ready Player One and The Wise Man's Fear. That should just about do it, if I even finish.

message 18: by Laurel (new)

Laurel Stephen, those are three FANTASTIC books! I really hope you enjoy them!

message 19: by Masha (new)

Masha Toit Am reading "Enna's Burning" by Shannon Hale, the sequel to "Goose Girl". It's really excellent but I'm in a very dark section now and almost afraid to go on reading!

message 20: by Sandra (new)

Sandra (sleo) | 1913 comments I'm limping through The Dragonbone Chair, and while liking it, am not finding it very compelling so far. Meanwhile, I'm playing hookey and re-listening to some of my favorites in the Vorkosigan Saga. Also listened to Feed and Deadline which were mostly fun, although I hate zombie stories.

Do plan to finish Dragonbone, and also read Gate of Ivrel. Started a Georgette Heyer for candy.

message 21: by Penny (new)

Penny (sylverpenny) I'm in the middle of re-reading Lord Foul's Bane by Stephen R. Donaldson. Hi my name is Penny. :) Have a good day everyone.

Traci Sandra aka Sleo wrote: "I'm limping through The Dragonbone Chair, and while liking it, am not finding it very compelling so far. Meanwhile, I'm playing hookey and re-listening to some of my favorites in the ..."

I liked Dragonbone Chair but I think I would've liked it better when I was younger and just started reading fantasy. It had a very familiar feel even though I hadn't read it before.

message 23: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (katmax100) I've just finished Midnight Riot and I am now reading the sequel Moon Over Soho- and before that The Business of Death.

I actually seem to be on an uncommonly good run of fantasy books at the moment and as a result am zooming through them much quicker than normal.

message 24: by Trevor (new)

Trevor (clevtrev) | 32 comments Finished Mr. Monster. Good, suspenseful story. I'll be getting to the last in the trilogy soon.

For now, though, I'm going to read Ghost Story. It feels good to be back in Harry Dresden's head.

message 25: by James (new)

James Hancock Just started Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson today. I saw incredible reviews, and just didn't have the heart to be disappointed by a Dance with Dragons once I saw all the bad reviews. So I started Mistborn. Cant wait for Inheritance #4 in November. Also just finished The Omen Machine, it wasn't Goodkinds best, but it was sure nice having Richard and Kahlan back for awhile.

message 26: by Sandra (new)

Sandra (sleo) | 1913 comments Yeah, I gather DWD doesn't continue the plot much, which is running at a snail's pace so far. What a let down after all the friggin' hype!

message 27: by Shannon (new)

Shannon Trevor wrote: "Finished Mr. Monster. Good, suspenseful story. I'll be getting to the last in the trilogy soon..."

I really liked that trilogy. The author also has out a vampire farce novella. Very funny! A Night of Blacker Darkness

message 28: by James (last edited Sep 09, 2011 07:03PM) (new)

James Gonzalez | 101 comments Right now I'm finishing up The Briar King and just started A Dance with Dragons. I'm hoping to also finish Before They Are Hanged, The Charnel Prince, and The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by the end of the month, but that might be a little hard since I'm going to Disneyland for the last week.

message 29: by Trevor (new)

Trevor (clevtrev) | 32 comments Shannon wrote: "I really liked that trilogy. The author also has out a vampire farce novella. Very funny! A Night of Blacker Darkness"

Nice, thanks for the info.

I finished reading Ghost Story and it was another solid entry for the Dresden Files.

Next up I'm finally going to read Dune.

message 30: by Ann (new)

Ann (annmiaomiao) I just finished The Way of Kings, which was excellent and probably the best novel I've read in a long time. I loved In Conquest Born, so I'm planning to read another book by Freidman, perhaps Black Sun Rising? If I have time, I might pick up Assassin's Apprentice, although I've heard mixed things about it so I'm slightly wary.

Assassin is very good. Come join the discussion in the Series group! http://www.goodreads.com/group/show/3...

message 32: by Chelsea (new)

Chelsea (rocktopusjones) Currently reading Paladin of Souls, and listening to The Lies of Locke Lamora. Once I am done with them, I'll read Retribution Falls (which I just got last night!) and The Warrior Prophet. Next up on the audio queue is The Left Hand of God.

message 33: by Traci (new)

Traci @Ann Freidman is one of my favorite authors you can't go wrong reading anything by her imo. But I do highly recommend Black Sun Rising. And I love Hobb, but I'll warn you if Assasssin's Apprentice is your first her writing can seem slow until you get used to it. Although others love her right away.

@Chelsea I really enjoyed Retribution Falls. Hope you like it as much!

I'm reading A Shadow in Summer but tempted to give up on it and a science fiction book Revelation Space which has me a bit confused but I like it anyway.

message 34: by Shannon (new)

Shannon (_shannon) Reading Midnight Never Come. I hadn't meant to start this one until after I finished the final book in The Queen's Thief series but for some reason I grabbed it of the shelf. I'm liking it so far.

message 35: by Helen, I· ɪɴ ᴛʜᴇ ʟɪʙʀᴀʀʏ (new)

Helen | 3616 comments Mod
I'm still on Fortress in the Eye of Time, really enjoying it though.

message 36: by Mir (new)

Mir @Candiss: I hope you enjoy City of Bones! I've been meaning to reread that this I finished her The Cloud Roads.

I just started Steph Swainston's The Year Of Our War. I'd never heard of her before, and no one I know has read her.

And I finally ordered a copy of Angela Carter's The Bloody Chamber and Other Stories, a classic that I've been meaning to read for years.

message 37: by Michele (new)

Michele | 85 comments I specifically bought The Dragonbone Chair because this group is reading it...but I haven't had time to pick it up yet. I have a list of books I have to read and I am reading one now: it is a kids' sci-fi book The Search for WondLa. So far, it is ok, but I am impatient to read something else.

message 38: by Tad (new)

Tad (tottman) | 68 comments I'm about halfway through Soulless. It's really a lot of fun.

message 39: by Bill (new)

Bill (kernos) | 324 comments I just started the expanded The Stand, my 1st King, and am about 100 pages in. It is certainly engaging and not at all what I expected.

message 40: by Dahlia (new)

Dahlia I will be reading Assassin's Apprentice, Perdido Street Station and The Hunger Games...

message 41: by Alena (new)

Alena I am currently reading The Wise Man's Fear by Patrick Rothfuss. I'm about 400 pages into it and so far so good.

message 42: by Eric (new)

Eric Patchen I am currently in Toll the Hounds (Malazan Book of the Fallen, #8) by Erikson and Wizard and Glass (The Dark Tower, #4) by King and will be hopefully getting closer to the end of both series.

message 43: by Joseph (new)

Joseph | 1651 comments I finally finished Shadowplay Shadowplay (Shadowmarch, #2) by Tad Williams , the second book in Tad Williams's Shadowmarch series. I'm enjoying the series but I think I'm going to take a break before moving on to #3 and #4 -- instead, next up will be Jack Cloudie Jack Cloudie (Jackelian #5) by Stephen Hunt by Stephen Hunt.

message 44: by Sandra (new)

Sandra (sleo) | 1913 comments I've not been reading much so far this month - listening to audio books and there was a terrible flood at my daughter's house so have been trying to help out there. But I am enjoying this month's book, The Dragonbone Chair, quite a bit.

message 45: by Tish (new)
