Emm Personally i find zoey very annoying, after reading about other peoples views, i agree. She is a big pain. What do you think?

rose I don't really like how all the boys fall at her feet. I LOVE stark. I think Stevie Rae is awesome, and Aphrodite has some good in her!

Emm *Rose* wrote: "I don't really like how all the boys fall at her feet. I LOVE stark. I think Stevie Rae is awesome, and Aphrodite has some good in her!"

I agree with everything you just said lol. I hate it also, i hate that when stark did come along, she treated him badly... and when they were together she then went off with the other boyfriend.. and then again to the next guy...

AlbertaJenn I dislike the racial and sexual stereotypes that the authors buy into. The grandmother, being Native, talks like she can barely speak English even though she has spent her life in Oklahoma. And the gay characters are so flaming that it isn't even funny. Obviously, the Casts live in a very white, straight world.

Ashley I loved the first few books, and then everyone went super stereo typed, they added too many already out of date pop culture references, and too much text speak. I feel your pain Zoey, but grow up and then tell me your story.

C.C. I didnt like the stereotyping of the teenagers, races and sexual orientation... Maybe they are teens but not all acts like that, I was annoyed of her making Kramisha sound uneducated who barely speak proper English. And what's with Damien and the other guy? You don't have to be girly and flashy to be gay you know.

chinami I did not like the love triangle, in my opinion it was a love hexagon. Five guys fall for same girl like there's no other girl in the entire planet, that makes the story unrealistic. Stevie ray and stark were the only ppl who were ok in the entire setting.
Why does heath follow Zoey everywhere like Mary's lamb? I was relieved when Kalona killed him but Nyx had to get him back! And kalona character, he was just anoying.
How is zoey not a ho as she calls aphrodite when she herself hooked up with Loren while still in a relationship with Eric? In spite of everything she did to Eric, most think he suddenly turned annoying. He's cheated and what kind of reaction does anyone expect? Loren was a total idiot and i would have killed him myself.
Finally this series should not have gone till 8 books at all and its told that there might be 3 more books in waiting.

C.C. Veronica wrote: "I did not like the love triangle, in my opinion it was a love hexagon. Five guys fall for same girl like there's no other girl in the entire planet, that makes the story unrealistic. Stevie ray and..."

0.0 Omg and LOL all of the things you said were true! I completely agree!

chinami Crystal wrote: "Veronica wrote: "I did not like the love triangle, in my opinion it was a love hexagon. Five guys fall for same girl like there's no other girl in the entire planet, that makes the story unrealisti..."

Good to hear someone agrees with me. When ppl like something they dont get the heart to find fault with it.

Angela I had a hard time with all the ritualistic repetition. A lot of it seemed unnecessary after already reading about it once or twice. It slowed down the plot, and bored me to tears. It's the reason I never read past book one.

Marien Dore Here is a list...
Zoey is a slut. She felt no guilt over cheating at all!
She is also an imature baby, whinning about how she didn't recieve the presents she wanted.
The story with Neferett... getting old!
Zoey need's to pick a guy! (Though she doesn't deserve any of them.)
First two books were completely dull
The writting and way gay guys are described are very offensive. (With Jack and how he died, that is just rediculous and happened only because he was gay! Author's need to grow up!
Don't like alot of the characters. Really, I like Aphrodite and Lauren. That's saying something.
Some conflicts were too easy and boring...
This series could have done better!

message 12: by Emm (new) - rated it 5 stars

Emm I,ve made a list also
1. Zoeys a slut - obvious but true.
2. I hate how her friends dont confront her of all the small annoying things she does
3. She complains too much
4. She tries to look so innocent, going from one guy to the next.. uhh give me a break geheeze
5. I hate zoey lol
6. I kind of want kalona to be with zoey.. i have no idea why... its just how he comes across..
7. i dont think they should have killed off jack... :/
8. i hate how much they use the old language.. not to mention the cheesy language that zoey uses...
9. They should of had a smaller amount of books.. i dont think they put enough in. i think the recent ones have dragged.. yet i still feel slightly excited about the next one? only slightly
10. i really wish it would end in the next book... aparently theres 2 more.. :/ Yeh i think the next one should include everything, a big fight with neferet, steavie rae and rephaim, zoey and stark, just everything so there can be a epic ending.. but there not... there gonna stretch the fight out in 2 books! ARRRR

Sammi Aurox Is Mine I have to admit the books are being dragged, and Zoey is a major perfect loser, cheesy language included nad everything, but I still like the series cause I like how the authors have a good story line, even though they have one whole book, worth only two days in the story! And ima keep reaading to see how it ends.My fave characters are Aphrodite Rephaim and Aurox(my husband!)I hate that they killed Jack :( And I think that at the end when they finally defeat Neferet and the bad red fledglings and Kalona(or w.e it is they are going to do with them)Zoey is gonna reject the change or become immortal

With a few of these complaints you have made you have missed one fact..... ZOEY IS A KID..... Simple but true, she barely understands herself let alone what she has to do. As for jack I agree they shouldn't have killed him off but nyx said something about him being reincarnated one day or something. As for kolona being with zoey WHO DOESN'T WANT THAT...... I can admit to wanting zoey to end up with him, but I want kolona to be all good and stuff like that...... As for all those who complain about the way zoey's grandma talks I've always thought it made her sound more wise then anything else, she spoke with wisdom not trouble, if you get what I mean.

Now I hope none of you go off your nut at me, I'm simply expressing my opinion and I think many of you are forgetting the fact that zoey is still a kid, that's all.

message 15: by [deleted user] (new)

I found Jack real annoying, he was so babyish. He was talking like an eight year old and how old was he? Fourteen? Sixteen? Okay, so he has an excuse. He's gay. But I don't know how gay people act cos my mom doesn't like me hanging around them. :)

Alexandria Sides Hate how loving and dovy Damien and Jack are.

Angela Nguyen Zoey, please stop being so HORNY all the time, pick ONE guy and stick with him, stop PROCRASTINATING, and stop BSing everything.

Alexandria Sides YES!!!!!!!!! Thank You , Angela

Exactly

True that.

Why can't people just read a book and not complain about it? A book is made for the point of telling a story, not for an author to annoy the crap out of people. If you really hate the book that much then why are you taking the time in writing a huge paragraph about it? I'm not just talking about the House of Night series either. People do it to every book. I can't say I don't share your annoyance with this series because I do but when I read a book all I care about is if the story line or the plot was good. It doesn't matter how the author wrote it.

Stephanie My main beef with this series is that their editor seems to have been really crappy at his/her job. I found countless, not so easily looked over, grammatical and word errors... This seriously annoyed me.
As far as the series goes, it's YA lit, well, supernatural romance, actually. I wouldn't even categorize this as literature at all. What do you expect? I'm not saying I haven't read good YA lit, but there are a lot of things in this series that are going to appeal to the tweenage girl. That's what they were going for. I think they hit their mark. It's kind of like Twilight. If you are looking to this for some kind of revelation, you should pick up something else. If you just want a fast, easy read that is quasi-entertaining, then it could work for you.

message 23: by [deleted user] (new)

Those who say it's a vampire romance story are mistaking, yes romance has a part in it however it isn't the main point of the story...... And please don't compare this to twilight I have read twilight and it is nothing like twilight, even the vampires are totally different.

Stephanie I have read Twilight as well, and found merrit and entertainment value in that story. I simply compared the two because they are from the same basic genre and sit at just about the same point in the literary cannon. My point is that a reader isn't going to have a life changing moment while reading this series, in my opinion. I'm not saying it's a bad series. I'm just saying that it's not a mountain moving experience and the Cast's probably won't win a Pulitzer for it. People that expect that kind of experience from this series are going to be disappointed. And just of curriousity, what would you say that the main point of the story is? The epic struggle of Good versus Evil?

Parsha Sanzana even after 8 books i dont who zoey is actually in love with..

She'd fall in love with anyone who shows her interest/ flirts with her. :)) I'll bet she'd fall in love with Neferet's "shell" aka incarnated/hotter Heath :P

No, I would probably say the main point in the story is a girl trying to find her place in the world, and trying to work out what the hell she is meant to do. And who would have a life changing experience from reading a book? I sure as hell haven't, I enjoy reading that's it. Only I think people will get a life changing experience from are those stupid self help books, which trick people into believe they actually help you when they just screw with your mind more.

Jen Ashley wrote: "Why can't people just read a book and not complain about it? A book is made for the point of telling a story, not for an author to annoy the crap out of people. If you really hate the book that muc..."

1) Free speech. People are allowed to have opinions, even if is a negative one. People express their dislikes of TV shows, movies, magazines, music, and even other people. Should people just not speak up about their dislike of anything? What a boring world that would be.

2) Authors should be used to criticism and compliments alike. Criticism can help the authors find the weak points of their writing, characters, etc that they can work on. If all an author ever sees is glowing reviews, how can they ever grow as a writer?

Not trying to be rude or anything, but I disagree with your statement. Since the book was published to the public, they have to accept both criticism and compliments, just like everyone else. I am a writer (not a published author yet) and though I may disagree with certain criticism, a lot of it has also done wonders for my writing skill.

Stephanie I understand some of your point, J.N, but I find it laughable that everyone uses free speech to validate what is basically a b*tch board. There really isn't anything constructive here. There is about a 1 in a million chance that the authors of any of the books discussed on here will ever read the comments made by the readers. I studied creative writing in college and agree that criticism can help a writer grow in their craft. I just don't think that that particular point applies to this situation. I think some people get tired of seeing the same old negativity ALL the time. I'm okay with people not liking books that I have read or recommend. To each his own, but making a forum about why something sucks is kind of non-productive.

message 30: by Abigail (last edited Oct 27, 2011 11:14PM) (new) - rated it 3 stars

Abigail Jones The two main dealbreakers for me in terms of this series being annoying, are
1.) the sheer amount of bfs Zoey just accumilated. Heath, Eric, Loren, Stark, Kalona......
2.) how many BOOKS there are. 1, ok. 2? Sure. 3. Sort of. But 4? 5? 6? 7? And I've heard plans for a book 12...?

message 31: by Lisa (new) - rated it 4 stars

Lisa Aphrodite wasn't my favorite but i didn't completely hate here

message 32: by Nicole (last edited Nov 05, 2011 09:42AM) (new) - rated it 4 stars

Nicole - I'm probably the only one that doesn't like it when Stevie Rae comes up. Actually I really like her, I just don't like the way the authors write about her accent/stereotypes all the time. D: But I like her a lot in general..esp because I think her character really makes the story interesting

- I like Zoey, she's not perfect, immature & greedy with boys :L I can relate to her a lot. I don't like that she changes her mind...ALL the time. :L

- I love Aphrodite. She's sassy & she's hilarious. I love how she pretends to be all bitchy but she's just really guarded against other people. She seems real.

- I loved Heath :( I'm a sucker for cute boys :L

- I love Stark too but I think there wasn't enough grounds/foundation for Zoey/Stark love story? I mean Erik -he's hot/nice/pop Loren- manly :L Heath- knows everything about Zoey..and he's so cute . He loves her even after their imprint breaks .

- I HATE the gay talk the authors always write about. It's really offensive like. I cringe eveytime I read it :L

AlbertaJenn Luna Moon wrote: "Why can't people just read a book and not complain about it? A book is made for the point of telling a story, not for an author to annoy the crap out of people. If you really hate the book that muc..."

Normally, I would agree with you. If there are books/authors I don't like, I just rate the book and move on.

My issue is the racial/sexuality prejudices that the authors make that make this series plain offensive to me. I see my critic as more of a social call-out, rather than just a matter of "I don't like this."

not being rude here, but it is a discussion board, which kinda means everyone says their point of view, which happens to be here that they dislike some features of the plot/characters, and i think the title of the discussion has already said who this discussion is aiming for

message 35: by Mim (last edited Nov 06, 2011 12:20AM) (new) - rated it 4 stars

Mim I actually love the house of night and i like zoey okay but....

I hate how Zoey doesnt swear and she uses stupid words/saying instead like bull poopy and those kind of things. I also find how they use Cherokee language REALLY REALLY anoying because we dont know how to pronounce it and it just sounds dumb. And i dont like how they always switchine POV's now! confusing much!

FasterKillFastPussycat Veronica wrote: "I did not like the love triangle, in my opinion it was a love hexagon. Five guys fall for same girl like there's no other girl in the entire planet, that makes the story unrealistic. Stevie ray and..."

I don't know how far along everyone is in the series but I made it to Burned (Book 7) and stopped....I have never quit a series before. This series started out kind of good and then took a turn for worst.I don't understand how between two writer's an amazing book series can't be made.Stevie Ra's southern slang and constant use of the world ya'll and Zoey's using bull-poopie instead of bullshit annoy me. You mean to tell me she can bang every guy on campus but can't curse.how ridiculous -_- and they made Aphrodite out to be such a slut but she's interested in less guys than Zoe.You read book after book waiting for this great showdown that should end the series but instead the bad guys just fly away, are you kidding me? Then Stevie Rae falls for a damn ravenmocker and Zoe is so plagued by Heath's death that she falls into a broken hearted coma or something.I wish I never got so invested in this garbage series only to be let down.

message 37: by [deleted user] (new)

Every guy is kinda an over statement, she only has sex with TWO guys in the whole series and if you have only read up to burned then she has only done it with ONE guy, and as for stevie-rae and rephiram, (the raven mocker) they are my fav couple, especially when he gets the sexy human body from nyx (sorry for spoilers, this happens in awakened) and pretty much turns against kalona and joins zoey's team.

Jennifer Dupriest The writing is kind of annoying and the way Zoey treats the guys by dating more than one is really upsetting... I would understand if she broke up with one and dated another... but she cheats on one with the other, then she whines about how mean they are being to her, and about how hard it is being her.

Abigail Jones Jenny wrote: "The writing is kind of annoying and the way Zoey treats the guys by dating more than one is really upsetting... I would understand if she broke up with one and dated another... but she cheats on on..."

I completely agree. . . I mean, first it was Heath, then it was Eric, then it was Loren, Heath and Eric, then it was Heath and Stark, then it was Stark and sort of Eric, and now Heath's back in the picture? Apart from being annoying, it's really just sort of confusing.

Kelsi Calliari Zoey is apparently the most beautiful person ever and if a guy doesn't fall for her the world will end.

Erika All the characters are stereotyped, and every new boy in the plot has to fall in love with Zoey and She'd fall in love with anyone who shows interest.

Besides, the writing is a bit poor.

Kaitlynn Heller OMG they had to bring back heath hes a pain in the arse and zoey with her non cussing come on evry teenager cusses the author obviosly doesnt get that and the love triangle to be honest i hated erik what the hell he was cool at the start of the series and as soon as zoey did something he doesnt like hes like oh you f'ing slut what the hell. then theres heath sometimes its like grrrr piss off out of the book then he dies yipee :) then the author is like why doesnt heath come back in a vessel well at least P.C makes it sound like hes a ship. stark is cool besides the i will do anything for zoey god. zoey is the worst culprit for the love triangle she carnt decide who to be with until like the 6th book when things start going down hill but other then that i love the book

Diana Townsend The constant use of the words: Nappy; ho-bag; mee-uf-ow(wtf is this??); and OMG; and the fact that Zoey definitely curses unless ho is no longer a curse word and no one informed me. I really liked this series when I started it but now I just can't be bothered anymore.

I agree 100%. I bought Awakened but have not read it yet. I feel the story has slowed down a bit. I have to prepare for it. I like the story & that is way I will continue to read it.

Sevania It's not just the characters- the writing is bad. A good author can take even a bad plot and turn it into something captivating. This plot is okay, if a little slow, like was iterated earlier in the discussion, but the writing is just not cutting it for me. Plus the fact that Zoey is a total Mary Sue. A perfect character. She's beautiful, she has amazing powers, she has a whole host of hot-guy boyfriends, and plus a bunch of girl friends. I mean, seriously? What are her faults? What's her fatal flaw, the thing that's so wrong with her it could kill her? Every good character's got to have one, it's a rule. BTW, I don't count the inability to choose between boyfriends as a fatal flaw.

Samantha I stopped reading this series, much to my friend's horror, because it just got stupid. I mean really do you think that guys really fall in love with the slut? in real life they would sleep with her and be done with it but NO they all fall in love with the bitch.

message 49: by [deleted user] (new)

I read like the first 4 four books in this series and immeditaly hated it. Besides the fact that Zoey is just an annoying slut, she goes through the same drama in every book.

First it was:
"OMG I love Kieth; OMG Eric is so hot"

Then next one:
"OMG I love Eric; OMG I slept with my teacher!"
Then it was: "OMG I love Eric; Omg I kissed Stark!"

And then I believe it was:
"OMG I love Eric, OMG I still love Keith! *Gasp*"

I honestly can't even begin to tell you how much I loathe this book.

Thank you! Its a freaking love circle, because there are so many guys she likes, there isn't a shape that has enough corners to cover it!!
